Hey /co/ we have last a lot of wrestlers so far in February. To pay what little tribute we can we have been reading wrestling comics. So let's continue with that trend by reading ANDRE THE GIANT: LIFE AND LEGEND!

How is everyone doing tonight?
Have a bump.
A friend got me this for Christmas, I'm looking forward to reading it once I finish a few issues I've got on backlog. But I hope all you folks enjoy it too.
>>90178603
Doing pretty good are you the same person that storytimed this last year?
>>90178946
I'm sure I did it at some point last year yeah.
>>90178959
Name sounds familiar but I vaguely remember reading this for the first time because of you so pretty excited to see this again I really enjoyed it.
>>90178550
Glad to see you're still around Danny.
>>90179015
I am glad you are excited anon! I love this game.
>>90179056
Game? Comic! Been playing too much monster hunter clearly.
>>90179055
Oh you know me, I'll never go away completely.
>>90179258
Man, he was just a time-bomb for a super-painful death, yet he remained so friendly and upbeat until the very end.
What a fuckin hero.
>>90179544
He had his faults and his bad moments too.
>>90179603
True, which is actually something I really like about this book.
Stuff like this and the bus incident aren't sugar-coated; he really comes off as human, despite always appearing larger than life, you know?
Like, it's easy to forget that he was ALWAYS Andre the Giant. Hulkster hung up his boa when he went home, Warrior washed off his face paint, but Andre was always Andre, whether he wanted to be or not.
Highly recommend reading this, incase anyone seeing this thread hasn't read it already.

This, it's an excellent read and you can tackle it in an afternoon.
>>90179673
That's why I like this book more than Closer to heaven, both are good but Life and Legend puts the Life first before the legend, it isn't afraid to show that Andre was just a man with issues, giant sized issues.
>>90178603
Pretty good Dan, thanks for storytiming this. I recently watched a video about Andre and I'm excited to learn more.
>>90179777
You get a sense that he grows (no pun intended) as a person by the end of it, too.
Like, you compare him in this part of the book, where he's one of the biggest names in wrestling, and he comes off like a bit of a good-natured prick at times.
But then you see him when he's filming Princess Bride or doing that final interview, and you see a person who's really come to terms with who he is.

God, can you imagine a night on the town with Andre the Giant?
So the story goes, Mandy Patinkin and Cary Elwes would try to match him shot for shot and end up mostly-dead every night they were shooting. Like, to the point that Rob Reiner had to intervene and tell him to stop getting them wasted each night, since their hangovers were ruining takes.

What a hell of a way to die though
Love this cause it shows him as both being kinda a jerk sometime to a nice guy. It doesn't sugar coat stuff and shows him as a real person
I dont even care for pro wrestling and this is interesting. Bump
i got this a few months ago as a secret santa gift. probably the greatest thing i ever received.
>>90180183
It's interesting, because there's some clear logic behind the bad shit he's done.
Like the bus incident, you get the sense that he's not racist, he just finds that kinda shit funny.
Or the whole "I wouldn't be any kind of father" thing, like, to be fair, he WOULDN'T, given his condition and career and lifestyle.
It's not GOOD, but there's clearly more layers to it than just "he did a shitty thing". It's a real HUMAN problem, if that makes any sense.

>I'll take two of those
Kek, I can do maybe 3-4 eggs a day. And that's without cheese or ham or whatever.
>>90180604
>THEY'RE RAPING HIS DIGNITY!
You gotta love the theatricality of pro-wrestling
>>90180761
>$40k bar tab
Haha holy fuck
thanks senpai
that was pretty good
Thanks for reading guys!

Bret Hart cameo
This is always a great read.
Much obliged, Dan.

Glad you enjoyed it!

man reading Andre talk about not fitting in the bathroom reminded me I read somewhere once that he couldn't use most toilets so he ended up doing #2's in the tub. Just makes you think of all the everyday things you take for granted that he couldn't do.

I wonder if Wepner has said anything about this fight in modern times
>>90181328
Can confirm, brother's friend's parents owned a nice hotel where he stayed once. He requested a special toilet which they could not/did not honor, so he dropped a duce in the tub. I was told the turd was a terrifying size.
>>90181387
The entire show was seen as terrible by everyone present, even some of the fans. Andrew, Wepner, Ali, Inoki, even the guys who set it up.
First time I've ever read this. Ive never watched wrestling and barely know some of the old major players. But dam this is well done. Did not expect my heart strings to be tugged

Yeah, that's pretty cool.
