It reminds me of that Elephant Men comic Murderanon showed us as part of the anniversary.

Throw something interesting and vague at us to catch our attention and then give us little bits and pieces along the way to keep us both interested and wanting more. It's simply good storytelling.

Something you can't really do when you have an editor say "You have 6 issues to make something awesome or we'll murder your family!" like at the bigger companies.

Stories need to kind of breathe and grow on their own, this takes time and patience.
