Why are some gems unable to be grown and instead can only arbitrarily be created by fusion? Why can't Homeworld for instance grow a one gem Garnet, or rainbow quartz or Opal from scratch?

Obviously the fact they can't is the reason fusion is forbidden. Gems are grown for a specific job that's determined at "birth", and fusion gems therefore don't have a specific job since they can't be grown from scratch, eroding the gems' caste system. But WHAT is the determining factor for what gems can and can't be created organically?

The angst you are mentioning simply does not exist in the show as of yet. That's the only point I'm trying to make, it's why it doesn't really compare with Jaspis.

Otherwise it probably be more of a popular ship if they at least interacted some.

After all, the most popular ships tend to be the ships with the most canon interactions.

I'd eat my pants if it doesn't. The ending theme is building up to something for this finale, and my guess/desire is a second corruption bomb being fired at Earth. Steven will spend the first few episodes next season healing his friends. More likely, though, we'll see the beginning of a second Earth invasion.

I thought it was genuinely emotional.

The scene where Steven is just walking around the Temple, alone, making his own (shitty) dinner, eating alone, trying to get away from the shadow of Rose (and thus his own conflicted feelings) and failing was really well done. I was surprised to see it in a cartoon of all places.

Steven doing all the things he thinks he "should" do with Rose and then realizing that the entire time he thinks he's been interacting with something tangible--not really Rose, but, a reconstruction of Rose like the room reconstructs others--was a lie. He's alone. No one, simulated or not, is holding him. He was crying from happiness because he thought that the room was able to show him Rose, and he wished he'd done it sooner, and that's all dashed. And building up to him confronting the fact that he doesn't really know who Rose is, but he's finding out that she did things which he thinks are horrible, and he feels like she saddled him and the Gems with the consequences of her mistakes, and that makes him pissed and confused (why did she 'make' him? to run away?) was a neat way for Steven to let out all that he's needed after what he's went through lately.

And even Steven's reconstruction of Rose that he 'played' with is pretty damn depressing when you think about it. He's interacting with an imagined idea of Rose based on the video she made him and what other people have told him she was like. Her sports speech? A play on her speech from the video. Her line about Steven's hair being wonderful just the way it is? A play on what Amethyst said Rose told her about herself. Etc. He doesn't know Rose. He will never meet Rose. But he has to deal with her mistakes now.
