I think they need to be reworked somewhat.

Larfleeze doesn't need to change, he's perfect.
Blue Lanterns should be a part of the GL Corps instead of their own thing, basically just their medics.
Red Lanterns need to be fixed because at the moment there's not that much that separates them from Sinestro Corps, they're both basically just evil Lanterns.
Star Sapphires should be tweaked to separate them from the Lanterns, giving them rings and making them literally Violet Lanterns was a mistake.
Indigo Tribe is so uninteresting, something should be done with them or just be rid of them.

Additionally I wish they'd utilize more of the aspects of the Corps that Johns invented and forgot about, the Alpha Lanterns, the Lantern Corpse, etc.

Well not really an issue, but domino masks kind of suck at hiding identities. Its one of those things that works on page but not in live action. Its why Bucky never wore one in CA:TWS. Im not saying we should scrap it entirely, far from it, but it may need a few tweaks. Hence why New God Hal is perhaps the best option

Highball is the Greatest GL there is....Johns run of him is objectively one of the best character arcs and universe expansion of any DC hero.

Subjectively its Halwank and adds his tragic husbando Sinestro and its beautiful.

New 52 took a weird turn with the Emotional Spectrum Well running dry that I wasnt a fan of but the new stuff has been pretty entertaining

New Krypton as a whole was kind of a huge crossover/status quo thing so I'm not sure how well that particular book reads on its own since I was following everything when it came out. I feel like in modern stories the belonging thing for him is more in adolescence than adulthood and gets played more as what you'd expect any adopted kid to go through rather than specifically because he's an alien. And Daxamites are super racist. They wouldn't accept him anyway. There's like three total non-asshole Daxamites (Mon-El, Sodam Yat, and Laurel Gand who starts out racist in some versions).

Uh from what I remember is that Daxam was a colony when Krypton was still colonizing but then they stopped because hubris so we dont know how long time has passed but Daxam knows of the existence of Krypton since I remember Yat saying that Daxamites believe their red sun is the eye of Rao that consumed Krypton. I dont think the Guardians did anything about the split but they didnt really do anything about the destruction of Krypton, Toma-re tried to save it (which is probably not canon anymore)

Any writer that has wrote themselves into a corner and the only way out is to have someone beat supes in a 'who can punch each other the hardest' competition, has failed as a writer. (there are exceptions, of course) . There's a million and one ways to make a better story and they pick the cheap ass way.

Not only is that often boring, but shows a genuine lack of understanding of the character.

That's important, because what makes you great, is not your physical power, but your mind. That's the main reason why those power rings are the most powerful weapons of the universe. Superman, WW, Flash, etc they're all great and all but the appeal of GL for me is that even tho Hal didnt have powers since he has the will he can somehow rise above people with godly powers, also one of my problem with a power ring is that there are aliens power ring or not that can kill a Lantern in a heart beat, so much for Ultimate weapon.

Yeah it feels like GLs have gotten too weak and now there are way too many weapons and powers that can beat a GL like they're nothing

So, what do you anons think about the current state of lantern comics?

I think HJ&TGLC is the best Venditti has ever been (I know, it isn't saying much), and it's a very 'johnsian' comic, with awesomely stupid (or stupidly awesome) space opera moments, and some very good artists.

Green Lanterns is really suffering from overlong, 6 issue stories and wildly fluctuating art, but the character moments and shorter stories are gold, and the Phantom Lantern was a cool enemy. Jessica is a good character and a superb waifu.

Overall I'm pretty happy with these books, but there is definitely room for improvement.

I like Hal&GLC so far, though it could certainly be a little less light war-ish. I hope the Sinestro Corps remains under Soranik's control for a considerable amount of time and don't just default back to "muh evil" within the next year or so because we've seen that already and it's not a very interesting twist.

Green Lanterns has been OK so far with some pretty nice moments and characters and some really trash moments and characters. It'd be much better if Jessica would just lose the ring already since she's clearly not the kind of person who should be able to use it.

It feels too crowded and the plots move way too slow, Warworld blew up in issue 7 but they're only just now combining the green and yellow corps even though that's obviously been going to happen since like issue 5? If this was a monthly book it would be unbearable

I only read the first few issues of GLs but I hate Dogfucker's narration so I haven't picked it up since, although I hear it has gotten better

The books aren't in such a miserable state as they've been the past couple years before Rebirth but I wish I was enjoying them more

I really like EVS's old stuff, his work in Hal and the GLC has been meh, I really like Reiss especially his work in blackest night, Mahnke was okay, initially didnt like him but grew to like him, his design of Krona and Volthoom was pretty good and Sandoval is pretty good also, a bit too cartoon-y but his art during the siege of Warworld was pretty 10/10
