I missed the threads on this can we talk about the movie?
I thought it was pretty good, but also kind of annoying at times.
>>90045916
Like a children's movie?
I just saw it today with John Wick II. One thing I love about the LEGO movies so far is that yes the jokes are dumb and juvenile at times but there's wit to the stupidity. It's still creative.
It's not just lmao Robin calls Batman daddy and Batman is uncomfortable! There's a running joke with saying papa or padre because Batman doesn't like being called dad. And you get payoff in the end with Batman calling him "mi hijo" which might have been the funniest line in the movie.
90% of the jokes land because of comedic timing. So even the jokes that are meant for kids like basically the entire introduction of Batman playing a lame metal song about himsel and singing along is punctuated by hilarious jump cuts to Batman just doing or saying something that catches you off guard.
They knew exactly how long to linger on a something to make it funny like with the lobster or Joker's sadface, perfectly used the LEGO medium for visual humor (Batman throwing a tantrum on the stairs should have been cringe but the visuals sold it) and the music (and lack of) were done perfectly as well. Timing timing timing. It just nailed it.
They also deserve credit for throwing jokes in there for adults. The running Michael Jackson Man in the Mirror joke and Dick's name being highlights.
>>90045916
Could've been funnier but Arnett was genius.
The directors said that Batman and Joker are brothers, and Joker is the black sheep.
I'll take Spurned Lover Lego Joker over Leto Joker any day.

I just saw it and loved it so I'm probably a little biased but it was better than any recent DC superhero movie.
It had a better Batman-Superman dicotomy than BVS
It had a better characterized, and more important to the plot Harley than Suicide Squad
and it was really good at referencing everything batman without being too much heavy handed with the references.
it also contains the best batman line ever:Iron man stinks
all these references!

Ayy, me too.
Loved it but it's but sometimes the "I'm batman, I'm a dick" jokes are to heavily relied upon and you got flat sections.
Stopped a good comedy becoming a classic.
Most I've laughed at a film in a long time though.
>Lego Supes sets up the plot by talking about how he put Zod in the Phantom Zone
>Joker gets sent to the Phantom Zone to free all the villains trapped there
>Zod never shows up
Really buffs my bricks. It seemed like a missed opportunity to get more Superman jokes in.
Lord and Miller went full clone high levels of funny in it
>>90050247
Think they needed to justify the Justice League not showing up to help. Also they possibly limited the villains to ones that won't be in future films (aside from The Joker) to keep them intimidating for future films.

I honestly felt it was a great Batman movie. It nailed the characters and was the funniest movie has seen in a long time.
It was a better DC adaptation than BvS. It was packed full of references and callbacks that only 30something fans would get.
I get that it's a kids movie and my lil niece & nephews loved it, but it clearly was just as much a love letter to Batman and DC superheroes in general meant for grown up fans.

The people who made this understand film making, story telling, as well as the characters they are adapting better than any execs involved in the DCEU.
Don't dismiss it as a kids movie. It's references and jokes are completely aimed at older fans and it's the best big screen adaptation of the DCU yet.
CW and the Lego people understand DC properties better than WB execs behind the DCEU. Shit is just embarrassing now.

A couple of easter eggs and some obscure "lol batman had such wacky villains" jokes don't a fan movie make. I will give it Dr. Phosphorus, though. But still obscure villains just appearing was just them being tryhard for fan-cred, exactly the same as Avengers Assemble and Ultimate Spider-Man thinking the more obscure villains they have the more fans will like it.
Every actual joke was still Family Guy-tier jokes about the '66 show, the movies, and Super Friends. If the JLA had Elongated-Man, Zatanna, the Atom and Red Tornado instead of Apache Chief and the fucking Wonder Twins then that would be fan-service.
I was expecting the Phantom Zone's "World's Greatest Villains" to at least be the Legion of Doom instead of a bunch of non-DC villains.
I just didn't find any of the pop-culture jokes to be funny or new at all, and this movie was built mostly on those over the previous movie's character-driven humor and physical comedy. It felt like an episode of Robot Chicken.
Animation was incredible though and the movie was worth seeing for that alone.

>>90059372
I'd kill for
Lego: The Lego Super Friends (Lego) movie
>>90059372
An anon had a pretty awesome idea for a Lego Superman Movie in an earlier thread.
>>90059372
As I said in another thread right after I saw the movie, LEGO Superman could never work because Superman's mythos is not anywhere as near as ubiquitous with normies.
Batman works because he had the '66 TV show which was a huge cultural touchstone, and 9 theatrical movies that were all massive successes. LEGO Batman's jokes were almost entirely allusions to that show and those movies. Your mom and your great aunt Mathilda can understand most every reference in the movie.
Meanwhile, Superman has only a couple of things that are as embedded in popular culture.
>sayings from the radio show such as "Up, Up, and Away!", "It's a bird, it's a plane", "faster than a speeding bullet", etc.
>saves Lois Lane all the time
>works with his pal Jimmy Olsen and editor Perry White
>Clark Kent is meek and mild-mannered and wears glasses
>Superman tears his shirt open and runs in a telephone booth
>Superman has a weakness to Kryptonite
>Superman fights Lex Luthor and Zod
>one time Superman flew around the Earth really fast and went back in time
>Superman wears his underwear on the outside
And that's really it. He's got the radio show that no one under 60 has actually heard, the 70's movies, and then two "reboots" that people don't remember that much.
It's telling that the villain said to be Superman's archnemesis in LEGO Batman was fucking Zod, because Luthor and Zod are really the only two villains he's ever fought in mainstream movies. People know the WORDS "brainiac" and "bizarro" but rarely know the connotation they have with the actual villains.
It's embarrassing that pretty much the best known superhero after Batman still isn't big enough for a movie based on jokes about him.
A World's Finest movie could work by combining Batman jokes with the limited Superman material.
The sad fact is that these movies are meant for the normiest of normies and Superman's history is just not that well-known.
>>90059645
And one more thing, I encourage anyone interested in a LEGO Superman or JLA movie to check out the DTV LEGO DC Superhero movies, they're fantastic and IMO much better than LEGO Batman and chock-full of fanservice.
>>90059671

Seriously, reading that greentext felt like actually reading the script for a lego movie. It was full of good material and an understanding of comedic pacing. All you would need is some decent voice actors and it would be in the bag.
>>90056780
I laughed more at the Ninjago trailer than I did at the entirety of Batman. I think maybe just the concept of the evil villain not giving a shit that he ruined his son's life and is still ruining it, but yet having his number saved in his phone and annoying him with fake calls is fucking hilarious.
>"How could I have ruined your childhood? I wasn't even there!"
Almost spat out a mouthful of soda.
>>90059645
>Superman's mythos is not anywhere as near as ubiquitous with normies.
To be fair, Batman really only has a couple of things that normies recognize, too. Quiz any random dude off the street that claims to be a Batman fan, and chances are the only shit they know is what they remember from the last time they watched Dark Knight a few years ago. Ask a normie who Dick Grayson is and they'll probably just shrug and say "I don't know the really obscure characters, man."
>>90046368
>might have been the funniest line in the movie.
The guy who calmly and dutifully states "I'm gonna start looting." when the Phantom Zone portal opens up was the best line in the movie.
>>90045916

also gentleman ghost he along Grundy are Alan Scott's villains.
Talking about Grundy i was surprised they didn't use him, he has appeared in a lot of batman related media before.
I thought it was too fast-paced for my taste. Even the "oh no this part is actually sad!" moments are too fast, but I also feel like it helps because if a joke doesn't hit then the next one might, you really cannot go through the movie without laughing at least once with so many jokes.
I liked the references and how well researched they were, I'm no comic freak but I was surprised of how much did they reference and I was even more suprised that my actual comic nerd friends did not catch up some stuff.
As always the animation was pretty good.
If I had to say a negative it's that the "sad" moments felt so out of place that I cringed a litte, I mean,it's a Kids Movie so it has to have themalso a negativebut in this one specially feels that they are pretty forced.
