>>
>>90029569
This guy's not wrong. Anything you do in life should be something you do because you want to do it, whether it be out of morals or just because you felt like doing it. But for the love of god, never do something expecting something else in return unless you had a contract signed or made an agreement beforehand. There is no implicit social contract where a guy plays Captain Save A Hoe and gets a reward from the person he saves. If you're the kind of person who does something expecting people to treat you differently after doing it, then you shouldn't bother doing whatever that thing is.
>>
>>90032142
But expecting other people to treat you fairly is just basic self-respect. If you're okay with your friends literally just brushing you off without acknowledging you, you have a problem.
>>
>>90031532
It's not a job if you weren't hired. It's just you doing stuff that benefits other people pro bono. That's sort of the point of heroes. If you signed a contract, thus entitling you to a reward, you'd be a mercenary.

You guys do realise there is a middle ground between always feeling entitled to some kind of tangible "reward" and having your good deeds blatantly exploited?

People don't necessarily have to pay you if you return them their wallet or rescue their dog, but at the very least they should be slightly inclined to not treat you like shit despite it and take your future assistance completely for granted.

Okay Ayn Rand, sorry I assumed people were entitled to being treated decently
>>
>>90032398
There is no middle ground. You can't control how other people think or act. What you can do is stop being a fucking lapdog that does stuff expecting anything from anyone in return. If you want to help someone you should only do it because you want to. Not because you want a hug, a kiss, friendship, respect, or even a "thank you."

If you are hellbent on a reward, sign a contract before you go to work, otherwise be grateful if anyone says or does anything positive for you as a response for your effort.
>>
>>90032392
you want me to destroy another part of your argument? OK
>There is no implicit social contract where a guy plays Captain Save A Hoe and gets a reward from the person he saves
yes theres is an agrement the moment you accept anyones help, if you dont want to owe gratitdue to someone then dont accept their help in the first place

>>
>>90032492
Accepting help != Agreement to reward the help
Accepting help == Accepting help

The only social agreement that happened is that the person who can lend help agreed to lend help.
It's on the person helping to know who the hell they're going to help before they jump in haphazardly if they expect a reward. And if you know someone is a dick that doesn't appreciate your help, why in the hell would you keep helping them? PB was a dick the first time, but anytime after that, it's completely on Finn (and you the viewer) for being an idiot expecting more.

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me."

Vets sign a contract which entitles them to benefits for their service tho. They're technically mercenaries with a moral compass, not heroes. So when they sign up because they think it was the right thing to do, that's their personal belief, but it's still paid labor at the end of the day.

Finn is more like some random guy that gets asked to do military stuff without actually being in the military. So he wouldn't really be entitled to benefits.

I mean, we took a good few swings at Hitler. It's just that the people who really *need* to be killed know they're being massive cunts and take precautions, and don't really have any qualms being ruthless about it. Plus James Earl Ray didn't have to think long and hard if murder was justifiable for a greater good, he was just racist and wanted the civil rights movement to end and killing Martin Luther King seemed like a good way of going about that.

the reasonable position

don't expect sex because you're nice to someone, don't expect $5 out of someone's wallet you returned, don't even expect a thank you if it's basic human decency like refraining from doing something bad. we're not uncivilized, this isn't some misplaced survival of the fittest edgelord contest here, it's just a fair social expectation, don't force obligations onto others.

but if someone does something good for you, be nice. you're not obligated to reward them, but be polite. don't snap at the old dude that keeps a door held open for you, don't hold open doors for old dudes in an attempt to bum money.

i don't watch the show so iunno if how she's characterized, so if she's being characterized as taking advantage of people's kindness or something similar then yeah that's pretty dickish.

>>

It's actually a subtle part of human natural evolution.

Handsome people get thanked profusely for being good/correct/doing nice things.

Ugly people are pretty much ignored if they do a good/nice thing. This causes them to turn bitter/more liable to do bad shit since those rewards aren't there anymore. This is why criminals are typically thugs/ugly.

The whole concept of faking alpha/the red pill is physically acting against the natural order of ugly=no reward and handsome=reward. Trump is a good example. He is literally a fucking wizard manipulator, even though he is ugly as fuck he is the fucking president because he fought against that natural order and broke through it.

In retrospect, should you expect a reward for doing the right thing? YES! And be pissed if you don't get it.

insofar that you need to value your own time and make sure people respect that, yes. don't let your boss try to guilt you into taking a lower paycheck, you're worth it.

helping someone in the supermarket reach something on the top shelf or driving a dog you found back to its owner is worthwhile in itself, it feels good and humans are hardwired to enjoy it, we actually get depressed and stuff if we feel like we're assholes, people who lack that empathy are called sociopaths and they have their own issues being satisfied in life. the reward is feeling nice, it's a social need that needs fulfilling like any other.

if you wanna be cynical about it (because hey that's fun), consider how shitty charities use this need to feel useful to others. people will donate cans of random ass food because it feels better and feels more like it's helping, even though canned food is bullshit and if you just gave the charity the money directly they wouldn't have to waste all this money shipping it around when they could have just ordered it in bulk and gotten a lot more, as well as be able to pay the people to handle the logistics of getting that food to the people that need it.

that whole issue wouldn't exist if the feeling of helping others wasn't something people wanted in itself.

>"morality" and "honor" dont work in the real world
>>
>>90035164
i don't think anyone's disputed that, though. that's what you say to anyone that tries to boil down altruism as being something stupid, it's how you prevent thought-terminators in discussions about morality. altruism can't exist because we need some sort of motive to do anything, no matter how abstract. we're acting on some sort of belief that we value, we're hungry, we want a thing.

even modifying harmful behavior that we previously felt good about (like learning to give cash instead of going out to buy canned goods to donate) can be explained as the old stimulus no longer feeling good and the new modified behavior being the replacement. going out and double-checking that what you're doing actually helps in itself is supposed to validate that belief you're helping.

but then we get nowhere fast. it's easier to just call doing good solely for the satisfaction of it altruism and let the ayn rands of the world get mad about it.

the other side of this is that we also apply social pressure to each other. ie you too should do this good thing. we're a social species, it makes perfect sense for us to pressure each other not not act like fucking dicks. it's an imperfect system of course, what society deems as right can change dramatically over a generation as people attempt to shape it and we've done and still do a lot of shit that philosphers have correctly called out way ahead of time as being shitty (ethics is its own field of study), but i'd say a general social rule of not expecting a reward unless a reward was promised does everyone good. saves people disappointment when little old ladies don't give you a mint and keeps them from angrily venting to their friends about it later making an ass out of themselves.

That's not logical because that would imply us finding a way to control human thought. What's more logical is for people to refrain from doing things they expect to be rewarded for unless they formally set up a contract beforehand.

What you're suggesting is akin to some guy hopping behind the counter at a McDonalds and taking orders and then expecting a paycheck or a thank you from the manager just because he did something helpful. The manager never hired you and even if he asked for help during the lunch rush or something like that, it doesn't mean you're now a paid employee entitled to a wage. You're some guy that showed up and did free labor for some godforsaken reason.

What I said is logical and it's the way the world works. A lot of people are nice and might give thanks, but it's irrational to expect such response from the masses as a whole.
What's truly autistic is expecting everyone to give you a reward for everything good thing you do like we live in some sort of fantasy land where nobody is a dick. If you want to save a cat from a tree, you do it because YOU want to save a cat from a tree. Not because you want the cat owner to tell you thank you.
>>
>>90035905
Not really. I didn't even remember the .gif in the image, but everything about it besides Vampire King was goddamned awful. I mean REALLY bad.
>>
>>90035697
it's not helpful though. we get into situations where people refuse help for fear that it'll be hung over their head even if they really need it. if i give someone a pizza because they have no money to eat, i don't want to go into a back and forth where they clearly need food but won't accept because they're worried i'm going to then ask for $10 later. it's really fucking annoying, sometimes you just want to give a gift or something without someone politely refusing because that's what's expected of them even though they love the gift.

goods and services that do have a price obviously have a rule about not taking them without paying, that's called theft. don't steal, don't sit down at restaurant, eat, and then leave without paying just because you didn't pay up front.

>human society reunion
i mean, that's what we're doing right now, isn't it? if you manage to convince a lot of people that this is how things should be, you can make that the new social norm. that's what a lot of social movements are about, changing the rules of social interaction to be more beneficial in our eyes. stuff like "bad words are OK to say on TV, it's up to parents to monitor content if they so choose" or "gay people are OK" or "don't smoke around non-smokers, go out to smoke" are all things that took a lot of conscious effort and arguing to accomplish in the US.

here we're discussing an already established rule that sometimes isn't consistently applied when it comes to stuff like romantic relationships. if you feel like it's a harmful rule, you can try to argue why it is harmful, but i don't think you're going to have much luck convincing others that's how things should work.
>>
>>90036437
>What I said is logical and it's the way the world works. A lot of people are nice and might give thanks, but it's irrational to expect such response from the masses as a whole.
Not at all, it's perfectly rational. Not expressing gratitude after someone significantly helps you is literally aberrant behavior. It is strange, and frankly, it's strange to defend it or pretend that it is in any way normal or even acceptable. It is not.
>What's truly autistic is expecting everyone to give you a reward for everything good thing you do like we live in some sort of fantasy land where nobody is a dick. You really need to take your medication, autistic contract robot. You do it to save the cat and help the person, but the thanks is fully expected, and failure to deliver it is an extraordinary rudeness in literally every culture on the earth.
>>

>>
>>90036437
>>90036573
i think you guys are talking past each other here. you're expected to acknowledge when someone has helped you out of the kindness of their heart, you should say thank you when someone has gone above and beyond what''s expected of them. we're all taught that as children.

not everyone says thank you though; this shouldn't dissuade you from helping others because you shouldn't be doing good for external validation. you should do good anyways because it's worth doing. you also shouldn't assume the worst about someone that doesn't say thank you, they may have forgotten, been embarassed, didn't think you were doing anything special beyond not being a jerk, or any of a myriad of reasons. because the thank you wasn't motivating your actions, you're not going to be upset if you don't get it.

if long-term you keep helping someone that seems to resent you, then that may be an unhealthy relationship you need to reconsider.
>>

Try telling that to an enslaved person. Or any person who lives in caste system. Or a police officer or vet. Day in and day out people do things for other people and they don't receive formal thanks or rewards from those people they help. (Well, cops and vets do through paychecks, but they don't always receive a direct thanks from those they help).
>You really need to take your medication, autistic contract robot. You do it to save the cat and help the person, but the thanks is fully expected, and failure to deliver it is an extraordinary rudeness in literally every culture on the earth.
Just because it's rude doesn't mean it doesn't happen. The fact that we have designated such behavior as rude is indicative of the fact that it happens enough for people to to classify that behavior as such.
Furthermore, I'm not saying sign a contract before you do anything you illiterate. I'm saying don't do stuff because you want to hear someone say thank you. You do something nice for people because you want to do it. You want to save a cat. You want to help a lost child. You want to pull a guy out of a burning building.

What is literally actually autistic is being somebody who does those kind of acts simply to hear someone else say "thank you" or get a $5 bill. You should be doing it because you feel it is the right thing to do. If you're getting upset about someone being rude when we live in a world where rude people exist, you're the autist and I'm suggesting you sign a contract because you're an autist hellbent on getting your reward.

With cops and vets it's literally their fucking job, and they still get lionized. Meanwhile everyone on earth besides a handful of quasi medieval kingdoms agrees slavery (and caste systems, although I'm not sure why you would even bring it up) are disgusting and unnatural. Not sure what that has to do with what we're talking about though.
>Just because it's rude doesn't mean it doesn't happen. The fact that we have designated such behavior as rude is indicative of the fact that it happens enough for people to to classify that behavior as such.
What a silly thing to say. Rapes and murders happen too. No one's saying it doesn't happen, just that it's unanimously agreed upon to be unacceptable.
>Furthermore, I'm not saying sign a contract before you do anything you illiterate. I'm saying don't do stuff because you want to hear someone say thank you. Given that you're repeating yourself at this point (autistic robot caught in a logic loop I guess), I will do the same thing: you do it because you want to help, but thanks is expected and to not deliver it is an extraordinary rudeness. It's laughable that you're complaining about people complaining about rudeness. Get a grip you fucking idiot.

You're making this way too deep, guy. There's plenty of times you might run into a situation where someone doesn't say thank you, be it because they are rude or they just forgot to say it. >>
>>90036795
It's comparing the suffering of two groups and arguing one has it worse, thereby implying X group's complaints about Y are trivial. There'd have to be context, though. During war, being the dead soldier probably sucks more than being the alive wife. But being a civilian woman in a warzone sucks massive ass and they're usually targeted for rape, and that's some nightmare post-apocalyptic shit. I'd much rather be a soldier boy than some poor woman trying to wait out a civil war while supporting her family.

Post-war, depends on the war. After both world wars we saw the lot of women generally improve. In WWII women in the US held factory jobs, there was the famous Riveter Rosie; when women were fired to make room for men, that helped get a lot of women involved in the feminist movement, to give women more employment choices other than those that men didn't want for themselves.

A modern US war? If that narrator has no family or friends involved, they have no place to speak, really. We hardly feel war at all, at least not directly. We'll certainly be feeling it later when all that money spent on not improving infrastructure or education comes to bit us in the ass, but for most people they might not even know whether we're still at war or not. If she's just a family member missing that family member, that's awfully hokey, I'm sure the soldier misses her too and also has to deal with bullets, but whatever. Women in the military certainly have it tough.

Iunno, it really depends on what's said after that and what point she's making. Contextless panels are made to trigger people, 9/10 if someone is posting something controversial it's not actually that big a deal if you look it up in the original context.

seeing you say that makes me think i didn't get the point across, because it seems you think it's easy to make an exception. imagine trying to invite a friend out for some coffee on you. wouldn't it be nice if they could just accept if they want some coffee without first needing to barter and do this long social dance where you slowly let them know you're not trying to use this to get handle on them? it's much simpler to require people to be honest about what they want, if they want to trade a coffee for a favor then that's what they ask.

>but wen we grow up we discover the world isnt black an white but rather its composed of layers of grey and those rules cant realy work anymore
there's more nuances to social interactions, and you're more likely to run into someone that no one would give you shit for being rude to, but the basic rule holds. this isn't a debate on the use of homicide to bring about a greater good, it's the equivalent of telling people which side of the road to drive on - it's on the right side in the US and it should stay that way unless there's some compelling reason to switch.

>you know this can aply both ways wath if im just a bitter asshole with a wrong vision of the world and i gatter enougth assholes to change society for the worse?
i'd argue that happens all the time, we've got white nationalists on this very board that have spent years astroturfing support for their views. now it's far more controversial to criticize something that would have been generally accepted as racist and therefore fair game for ridicule years and years go. we just gotta hope compassion and reason win out.

I don't know much about the person, but I do know that the character was commissioned by the government to quickly combat old gender norms that were preventing women from replacing men in factory jobs. It was considered unfeminine, and behaving in an unfeminine fashion wasn't as acceptable then as it is today. Imagine trying to convince big burly construction worker men that they need to knit little pink sweaters for chihuahuas, that's the sort of issue the US was facing. So for a brief period factory work was more egalitarian (men were still paid more for the same work, but it was a helluva lot better than no girls allowed), and then after those jobs mysteriously dried up after the men came back home Rosie Riveter ended up being a feminist symbol for female workers.

So what I'm saying is if you're unhappy that women won't go back to the kitchen you should blame Hitler.

None of what you said had anything to do with what I asked at all.

In fact I didn't even say anything about women or kitchens. Only that Rosie was in truth not interested in factory work. Because it was dangerous, menial and labor intensive. Like most women, they weren't kept out because they couldn't. But because that kind of labor is dangerous and difficult.

Not that I blame them. But it's not sexism that kept them out of the factory. Not then, and certainly not now, despite the numbers of women working said dangerous positions being still relatively the same. Likewise workplace fatalities and injuries.
>>

Their are a lot of reasons why people hate Breezy. LSP's uncomfortable make-out session with Finn. The Bee that wants to fuck Finn's arm. The fact that it's another Finn romance episode.

But the big one is that 3 episodes prior to this Finn lost one of his hands. This is a pretty dramatic development and fans were interested to see where the show would go with this.

And in this episode Finn just gets it back. In the most anti-climatic way possible. The show was only able to wait a measly 3 episodes before nullifying that big moment.

That may not sound too bad, but I think it was here that fans realized that the AT writers had no idea what they were doing and were largely making shit up as they went along. This heavily undermined people's faith in the show. Plus I think this episode served as the final straw for the frustration that had been building up during Seasons 4 and 5.

I'm only offering up historical trivia. Sexism was definitely a major barrier to industrial production, hence Uncle Sam getting his knickers in a bunch about it for once. Back then carreer options for women weren't like what they are today - you don't see as many female factory workers (though you do see plenty where it's just light physical labor) because we're not in a war where we need every vagina attached to a pumping heart to be stuffed into a factory making tanks and shit. There's far more options for women in the workforce, in part thanks to women growing accustomed to a job that's worth a damn. And that historical illustration is partly to thank for the social movement that gave women these opportunites, a bit of /co/ history.

As for the historical model, her name wasn't Rosie, she was just a drawn character. According to Wikipedia, "Rockwell's model was a Vermont resident, 19-year-old Mary Doyle, who was a telephone operator near where Rockwell lived, not a riveter." Iunno where you got the pianist thing from.

See this is what confuses me.
What do you think kept them out of the factories?

There weren't exactly any laws in the 40's that stopped them. Since, by the numbers, as I said, the number of women in the kinds of menial, labor intensive, dangerous factory jobs haven't really changed much. Women don't take those kinds of jobs.
Even light factory work isn't something they take.

Women and men just take different career paths and jobs.

>>
>>90053530
A social rule existing doesn't mean everyone follows it like a robot. Humans break social rules because they don't respect the other party or sometimes because they forget. And that's what the point of the story is. Respect isn't some magical thing everyone in the world gives you no matter what. It's something you might get if you are fortunate enough to encounter a person who isn't a dick. To go and do stuff for people in need or people who ask for help and always expecting a thank you is retarded because it requires that all people in the world respect all other people and to not be forgetful to give thanks. We don't live in a world like that. So it's smarter to understand that if you want to do something that you should do it because you want to do it. Not because you want someone to give you a pat on the back. Because a pat on the back is not promised by this world.

1. Supportive. The comic is called Assigned Male.

2. The "logic" the comic follows is that the character is not girl in a boy's body. Rather since she is a girl and this is her body, that automatically makes it a girl body. And if that body happens to have a Penis, well that just makes it a girl's penis. As seen in this comic:

>AT goes so far up it's own ass it turns inside out the episode
>>
>>90053968
But that's the thing though and that's where I think you and other people don't understand the point of what's being said. The point isn't that you should be a doormat. The point is that you shouldn't sit there and sperg out if people don't appreciate what you've done for them because what you can see is that these people are not your friends. They don't respect you. Stop doing shit to help them. You also should not be having mental breakdowns in the event you don't hear someone give thanks because we live in a world where people can be assholes. You also are not entitled to their thanks even if they asked you for help because all they agreed to do is get your help, not give you thanks. In the event you meet such a person, you just move on and don't help them next time. In the AT situation, Finn should have realized that PB does not respect him and treats him as slave labor. He needs to move on. Viewers should understand by this point PB is not his friend. Not get upset about Finn being mistreated. At this point in the series, it's more Finn being a retard than PB being mean, because PBs character is established as such and Finn keeps going back expecting something new.
>>
>>90054112
Who is "sitting there sperging out?" It's simple give and take, and if someone doesn't give, you learn your lesson and stop giving to them.

Sperging out would be equivalent to arguing with someone for hours about why they should tell you thank you, or yelling about why PB should treat Finn better while being blind to the fact that the party you are arguing with/about literally does not respect you or Finn. It'd be like a slave arguing with his master about why his master should say thank you when he picks cotton. The other person literally doesn't give a fuck about you, just accept that, move on, and don't help them anymore.

This is exactly what was the point of the original post from that other anon was about. You are not literally entitled to a thank you for helping someone. It's a common courtesy, but if you don't get it, just move on. On top of that, if you do help someone you should be doing it because you want to help them. Not to hear a person give thanks. If you go in expecting to hear a thank you, you're kidding yourself. All the thank you does is signify if the person respects you and is worth helping next time they are in need.

Because the show's writen like shit and has the consistency of a fucking muffin. One episode can have her portrayed as Finn's best friend, yes, but another can have her bothered by his mere presence and treating him like he's a liability. Take Islands, for example, when Finn goes out to travel an unknown terrain that can be his literal doom all she has to say when she comes to say goodbye is "well of course I would come this is my boat you're taking"

That's the general problem with AT, nobody in the boarders team seems to even want to talk to each other about even how their damn character's relationship with each others are.

tl;dr Adventure Time writting is so confusing utter garbage that the fucking fanbase fight itself over what the personality of a character that has been present since season fucking 1 is supposed to be.
