The first seasons were amazing, but the new ones aren't as bad as people make them out to be.

Every episode in season 4 feels off to me, and I stopped watching early season 5.
Also for some reason The Sponge Who Could Fly feels like a season 4 episode despite apparently being part of season 3.

Boat Smarts was the first time I watched a Spongebob episode and immediately thought "That was terrible"

There's been disappointments and episodes that aren't as good in hindsight, but that was the first one I ever actually hated.
