I agree with your statement, however, these characters, unlike the ones you may see in say Marvel, or some other "pandering" platform, aren't by any means set on a pedestal, or, to use another buzzword "Mary Sue"s. They are all shown to have their own respective issues, and very clear insecurities. And for the most part, these characters make an attempt to improve themselves, instead of simply saying "I'm this way, accept it", something which I personally feel is a big problem with our culture at the moment.

Crewniverse enviroment is the same as Ward's staff. Sugar give her crew creative freedom to do as they please and look at the goddamn show. Adventure Time dropped in quality because the fanbase either influenced the writers to move the focus away from finn and rewrite characters so that he suddenly wasn't as important in their minds, or they thought it was a good idea themselves.

The storylines themselves were fine, Finn just didn't need to drop in everyone's eyes around him while people who did worse shit somehow become love interests or worthy of respect, or be subbed out by his rule 63 version. The shipping makes it more obnoxious admittedly, but that wasn't the main problem.

On the other hand, there's not a single episode of steven universe not told from his point of view, to the extent where in certain episodes characters go 'and let's stop talking about this in front of you, it's private'.
