That episode was the pinnacle of samurai jack honestly.
Samurai Jack was always about gradually setting the scene, taking its time so you can really get into the setting.
The bounty hunters episode was by far the best example of that formula.

You have four characters, all with clearly defined personalities and character, plotting and scheming in a cabin by a snow-covered path in the mountains. That's 90% of the episode, establishing the setting and the characters, and at this point you haven't even seen the MAIN FUCKING CHARACTER at all outside of dream sequences.
Incredible amounts of time both in the show and in screentime just to set up the scene, and when it finally reaches the moment you've been holding your breath for, when they finally spring into action, its all done before a drop of fucking water can fall to the ground.

Seriously, that episode was a fucking masterpiece in many more ways than one.

Jack and the Lava Monster will always be one of my favorites.

While Tale of X-9 is an amazing episode and one of my favorites, I don't think it works as well as a standalone episode as most other Samurai Jack episodes do. In order to fully enjoy X-9 you must know about Jack so his portrayal as an antagonist in this particular episode carries a bit more of significance.

Anyway, if we're to talk about the best episodes "The Four Seasons of Death" immediately comes to mind.

Why is there no love for Jack and the Hunters? As a kid, I loved that episode and as an adult I can really see what a masterpiece it is as both a story and as form of visual storytelling. There is little to no dialogue once the hunter begins, but the animation tells us exactly what the characters are feeling and thinking without showing what they planned next.

Not only that, it was one of the few episodes where Jack was completely and utterly defeated. There was no plan or anything like that. No, if the Imakandi choose to hand him over to Aku, that was it. Yet, the episode also showed how hard it was for the Imakandi to actually beat Jack instead of making it one sided beatdown like a lesser show would had. It was an episode that was more of a battle of wits than it was of strength.

And in my honest opinion, it was a great episode

I hoped to see at least some kind of ingenuity from them.

For example one imakandi could have revealed himself and chased Jack to a specific location while others stuck to the shadows and made sure they were going in the right direction. Jack would initially think it's just another bounty hunter but figure soon enough there are more than one. When Jack arrives at the specified location they ambush him but because he forsought there are more he manages to evade it. Now that their plan was foiled they are forced to fight Jack directly but still manage to capture him this way proving they are not only ingenious hunters but fearsome fighters too. In that moment Aku appears, congratulates them and they release Jack.

But instead they immediatelly ambushed him and he escapes (lmao) and they cannot think of anything but just chase him down. Hunter != Runner.
They also seem to use the same strategy over and over again so they are no better than Boris et. al.
I think Jack just got unlucky he found himself on that building but the fact he uttered "I never met hunters of such caliber!" proves how forced is "lel immakandi best hunters" and without a substance to prove it.

The three blind archers is real good, so is Jack and the ultra robots with the build-up and Jack being awesome with the bionjc arm, Jack and the Scotsman part 2 was funny as fuck and then Jack remembers the past, that one was very emotional, seeing a stoic Jack cry like that.

My absolute favourite would be the birth of evil. It's the most "complete" episode. Top tier music, action, buildup, stakes, scope, visuals, plus it was an absolutely emotional ride and I'd even say it takes a deeper, more metaphorical look at the ultimate good vs ultimate evil conflict that defines the series.

My second and third picks would be the four seasons of death and the princess and the bounty hunters, those were absolutely breathtaking.

The Princess should've honestly died with the rest of the bounty hunters, instead of that long drawn out final scene we got instead.

I heard about 5th season, and realised that i never actually watched Jack.
Just got to "Jack and the Lava Monster" and holy shit that ending. I shed a tear, which almost never happen.
The whole 1 season actually giving me some kind of feeling i can't quite understand.

I'm very happy for and jealous of all these people. I wish I could watch Samurai Jack again for the very first time. It's still great, but fucking nothing compared when I was nine years old and watched the premier at my grandparents house.

Actually MKVTooolNix is likely to be way easier to just jump in and start working with. It's got a good GUI, everything is pretty self explanatory. pick your input file, un-check the tracks you don't want to keep, mark which tracks you want to be the defaults, mash "start" button.
