Except it's not. Skirts don't act like shirts in this series, which ruins it. The majority of upskirt shots could be prevented with clever cloth manipulation. Re:ZERO is basically Sword Art Online, but pretends to be really artsy and psychological and shit. The only thing it has over RWBY is the higher production values, and the direction is leagues better. The episode length helps it out a lot, too.


At one point, the main character and a whole fucking army fight a giant flying whale, right? This whale has literally no bearing on the main plot, except it's an obstacle in their way. This 'whale fight arc' takes place over the course of not one, not two, but fucking THREE, episodes, so about an hour. They pad it out by having a character, Wilhelm, who is an old man, fight the whale for a hella long time, as flashbacks explain his backstory, which is basically "yo i wanted to fuck this chick". Note that Wilhelm has no bearing on the overall plot and is basically irrelevant.

The show is bloated with even more characters than RWBY, to the point where they introduced a trap who, by the time he showed up again, I had forgotten was a trap. Yeah.

There is nothing wrong with having an ensemble cast, they just really need more time to showcase them.
As it is, 10-15 minute episodes is holding them back, especially since they tend to split the time of the episode up between two or more separate plotpoints.

RE:ZERO is the story of a boy who is transported into a magical world and promptly becomes incredible important, and is blessed with a magical power. It's not really an SAO clone, but to deny the similarities (especially when you can find people comparing it to SAO all of the time) is silly.

I suppose you're right with the fans being the ones who are mostly claiming that it's artsy, but the show certainly pretends to be deeper than it really is.

As for the bloated cast, it has characters that are introduced and are never seen again, characters that are stupidly similar, and characters who fill no role at all.
