Everything's just so stagnant right now. None of the characters feel like they've progressed at all except for Pearl and maybe Steven since season 2. Kind of. We'd already had several episodes about Amethyst dealing with her insecurities, and learning to feel comfortable with herself though. I was sick of it at that point.

Steven has had some development with Bismuth and Bubbled being two key examples, and I liked how he confronted Garnet in the recent bomb. Jasper's never coming back by the way, I know it sucks but be realistic.

It's not a coincidence that Lapis hasn't professed any sort of loyalty to the crystal gems, or referred to herself as one. She also hasn't really had any meaningful interaction or development with any of the CG's besides Steven.

I think she's still secretly loyal to homeworld, but she genuinely likes Steven and feels indebted to him. She doesn't give a fuck about the other CG's though, she just puts up with them for Steven's sake. She'd shatter Pearl, Amethyst and Garnet in a heartbeat if Steven asked her to.

I saw someone on Tumblr point out that the song playing during the Alexandrite vs malachite fight was called "collaboration", because the CGs were collaborating against Jasper and Lapis, who were also collaborating. If Lapis didn't actively help Jasper fight the CGs, she had to have been at least not caring enough about the safety of the CGs to stop Jasper from using Malachite to attack them, but I think the fact that she didn't try to unfuse and that Malachite was using a wide range of water and ice powers and flying points to her just finally going all out on the CGs since Steven wasn't there.

I don't think her initial hatred for the CGs was dropped for anything other than convenience and freedom from effort on the writers' parts though, I also think she was a pretty innocent person before getting imprisoned and used by her own allies and spending 5000 years in isolation. Terraforming earth kindergartens for PD isn't really suspicious.

but yeah, I would like it if she stopped being a useless boring retard and did something interesting again.

all amazing.
there was just something about season one that made it so perfect to me. i think it has a different tone than the rest of the show, that and less shitty writing + more fun episodes that weren't just about the characters doing dumb shit, they went on adventures, and the gems were usually there, and they all usually got character development by the end of the episode. and how it started with steven being really naive but then started getting deeper and more emotional in the second half was great, and the buildup to jailbreak was amazing. none of the characters were autistic and annoying yet. if the series had ended at season one it probably would have been my favorite cartoon. i think the writing has gotten sloppier and the crewniverse have gotten lazy. it's not terrible i just don't like it as much as i used to.

I think some people are drawn to the more magical feel season one had. Watching through it gives me the same feeling that I get when watching a good miyazaki film, and while the season finale is a sort of cliff hanger, it is the episode that reveals that reveals everything has actually been about space and alien shit and war, and since that was what all of season one was building up to it kind of just feels like its own complete story.

that's an interesting theory about the hole in russia, but if that's where she came from why didn't they just make more diamonds? historically diamonds have been found in russia, but i dunno. as far as rose quartz and PD, i'd say the fact that she killed PD shows how unethical a "kind" diamond can still be. I think Rose Quartz got her 'extra' powers (We know healing is not a normal part of the rose quartz power set) by fusing with Pearl.

I think fusing with a different type has unpredictable consequences - causes changes in gems, possibly giving them new powers or changing their personalities.

Perhaps Rose Quartz didn't have curly hair before she became Rainbow Quartz for the first time. Perhaps she wasn't particularly rebellious, either. Perhaps she was just an ordinary rose quartz who developed a crush on Pink Diamond's pearl - and perhaps the crush was reciprocated.

And then they fused and everything changed. Pearl certainly is atypical.

And now they are renegades by definition - warped, unruly, but beautiful and strong. Why have the Diamonds forbidden cross-fusion? How trustworthy is their authority?
