Admittedly, I would've just checked it out in case the girl gets a love interest with the older ballerina lady. But that didn't seem likely.

I don't know. WHen I first saw the style of the animation, I thought it looked pretty good, but the movement of the characters is pretty bad and the plot is completely rushed. Also the way people in the movie speak is too childish, i just couldn't take more than 20 minutes. But everyone seems to be speaking of the movie in my country (brazil).

What's the problem with that? It was a good movie and its target audience loved it. Half of the kids in the cinema were jumping around once it was over, which is pretty cool.

I didn't get to watch the movie to the end. All I know is that I had my head too full to deal with dumb comedy and bad animation. The art is good, but the animation was just so...Stiff? I don't know what word to use. It may be that I was expecting something less age-restricted, such as disney animations use to be, but that thing was definetely just for little girls.

Of course it is, how could you have not realised that?
It's a kiddie film, it's simple, nice if forgettable.
Can we do better for kids? Sure, but it does the job for its target audience. Would have bring my kids to it if I had kids.
I give it bonus point for avoiding the drama and "my parents are actually totally important people!" bullshit that usually goes with orphan characters.
Was expecting an academicism/freestyle opposition though.

This isn't a Billy Eliot remake.

I think the movie's animation is fine. It is not great, but visually is quite appealing...

However the terrible story and horrible soundtrack (A ballet movie with barely 3 Ballets songs in it... really?), are what make it bad. In my opinion, a total wasted potential.
