Fatal Farm was a studio that did a bunch of absurd videos in the 2000s, Lasgana Cat was them making fun of Garfield strips in a live action format which had them reenact the strip straight followed by the exact same laugh track for each video then they would do a music video which would go various ways. Just go to their channel, Garfield was already pretty disliked and dissected online before them but they were the first that went to such a high degree to mock it and Jim Davis.

What is it with Garfield having so many parodies that are funnier than the source material lately?

That being said it has a good staff of writers and artists, and they actually said "we're tired of the Jon the Romantic Loser thing, let's pair him with Liz and see where it goes."

Garfield being "all-out terrible, no exceptions!" is pretty much a meme. Jim Davis is a crass and creatively bankrupt businessman but that doesn't mean that neither he nor his creation were devoid of merit. The pushback is more due to the perceived shallowness of Garfield's origins and continued existence than the quality of the comic and its spin-offs in other mediums. The fact that Davis is pretty much the literal antithesis of someone like Bill Watterson only compounded things.

At best, Garfield as a whole is entertaining and at times genuinely poignant and profound. At worst, the franchise is mildly diverting and easy to ignore.

thing about garfield is that its pretty low on the scale but still manages to have a good enough artstyle and decent enough characters that i could read 1000 strips in a row and no nottice, hell anyone could.
Funny enough i place dilbert near the top and the dilvert cartoon has an episode about this. Garfield just has mass appeal thats all there is to it
