It's what you'd expect, from an eclectic mix of stories by different writers/artists. Some are good, some suck.

Heavy Metal is no longer the only way to read European comics. In fact I don't even think most of the artists are European, mainly Enki Bilal.

Some of the reasons for HMM's rise in the 70s (comic code restrictions, European artists needing a better platform) are why it's no longer relevant today. restrictions on paperback comics were lifted, and prominent artists started losing faith in the general magazine structure of their time.

70s HMM was always great, and the majority of 80s HMM was entertaining. but 90s HMM? Modern HMM? You're better off trying something new, like island magazine. What IM does is different because you can observe a regular roster of phenomenal sci-fi/fantasy artists that it employs, kind of like you could back in the good ol days of HMM. But with modern HMM you're just getting whatever they want to throw your way.
