Pearl's emotions and feelings are really complicated and tragically conflicting, but at the end of the day she loves Steven. She may have wanted Rose the hell back for a long time *while* nurturing her maternal love for the kid, but I'd be more shocked if someone in her position just flipped a feels switch.
