They want a Wonder Woman, and the "Captain Marvel" name has to always be in use to prevent DC from selling Captain Marvel's book under the name "Captain Marvel." I'd say they're roughly the same but DC was just better at making heroes who stand out on their own rather than as part of a team or based on someone else. Most x-women have the powers and personalities to stand out on their own but Marvel rounded up like a quarter of their characters as "mutants" and because of that they don't feel like they have their own identity, they're "just another member of the x-men".

Did this cartoon get better? I remember a lot of hate for it when it first aired.

I've said this countless times, They waited to long to make the change.

Back in the midst of dissassembled and dark reign should have been when they made the transition from Ms. to Captain. She was on multiple teams making actual contributions to the team, as well as leading one of them, and thanks to House of M, she got a massive confidence boost with her being the most loved hero in that reality and actually going by captain marvel, and then with help from the initiative and mighty avengers she became a more prominent character and those stories helped boost her character in her solo series.

And most importantly Marvel wasn't sucking the PC strap-on yet, and still had a few remaining stands of integrity, so the writing was still good, the employee's still cared, they were hiring artist that actually deserved to be employed, and their characters still had well designed costumes (not counting carol ironically), and the half shaved look was still only worn by viking men hundreds of years ago...

But instead in the middle of ANOTHER pointless cross over event, they resurrected Mar-Vell's poor decomposed corpse, just so Carol could have a one off conversation with him and get his permission to change her damn name, and then immediately kill him off again.

And then instead of actually working on making Carol into this new empowered hero, they just shoved her into countless books for gratuitous cameo's, and padded her solo with a women can do no wrong writer, and TERRIBLE artist to scare off fans of the old carol, and did nothing to actually establish carol as an interesting readable new take on an old character.

So essentially the time for marvel to have put their nose to the grind stone to promote their own Wonder Woman was long before they started heading in the "progressive" direction, back when they still knew what they were doing.

I have yet to see a normie female be into a Marvel heroine, it's mostly Wonder Woman, Supergirl, and Batgirl. Black Widow is usually just worn as a slutty costume and even then most women prefer slutty iron man or slutty Thor, heck even slutty Cap.

Heck DC has Superhero girls and that alone won them over the little girl audience along with the Supergirl show they also have more magical girl type characters than Marvel and they use them.

I just don't get what all the fuss is about. She's got a cool set of powers and unlike Wonder Woman you don't have to adhere to her past nor acknowledge her for being a female comic book icon.
