Honestly, I personally agree with the OP, the Hulk never held much appeal to me.

I guess other people find something more attractive than I in the "monster inside" symbolism. If the X-men are analogies for blacks/gays then the Hulk is an analogy for alcoholism or any other addiction/mental state that takes over and consumes ones life. Maybe thats why I dont care for the hulk, I find alcohol and drugs to be simply silly, i'll leave my brain right like it is thank you very much.

Or maybe its much more on the nose. The Hulk's rage isn't an analogy for anything, its about exactly what it says it is - anger management. Every one of us deal with crap in the modern world that there is little or no recourse to handling other than just dealing. Family members doing dumb shit, coworkers irking the hell out of you, dumbass drivers leading us to road rage. The Hulk is that bottled-up anger given an outlet, we all want to go postal but we don't, the Hulk *must* go postal when he gets angry. Maybe its just cathartic for us to watch someone else deal with matters in a very direct and forceful manner.
