Does Wolverine's healing factor also apply to disease? If Logan got AIDS, would he die?
>>
pretty sure it works the same way.

Cancer's a different story, as you can see with Deadpool, but AIDS is a virus and I'm sure Wolverine's superhuman immune system can deal with that
>>

Thanks!
>>
Would his healing factor push the arrow out, or would it heal around the arrow leaving a perfect arrowhead shaped pocket in him?
>>
>>89500249

Yes it applies to disease, Cable traveled back in time and infected Wolverine with a future disease to get the antidote from his body after it healed from it.
>>
>>89500294

It would heal around the arrow until he removes it, at which point it would heal some more. Same thing as his claws, holes stay open in his skin while they're out and heal shut when they're gone.
>>
It's how he can fuck so many female characters, and stay clean.
>>
>>89500294
In the comic I'm reading that spawned this question (Savage Wolverine) he mentions having to pull a spear out before he can heal around it.

Mutants can't contract HIV
>>
>>89500249
No, his body can fight it off. At one point he regrew from a skeleton, so no disease can really do anything other than slowing him down. Also, he cannot get drunk unless you feed him high concentrate alcohol in a continuous loop (he sobers up too fast otherwise).

They also mentioned in one story that mutants can't get AIDS anyway.
>>
>>89500321
I thought one of the X-Men died of AIDS in the 80s? I could be mistaken though.
>>
>>89500294
It would heal around it.

He mentions once that he has to dig bullets out of his body, because his healing patches him up but if the bullet is deep enough, it won't push it out, so he'll be fully healed but with bullets inside his body.
>>
>>89500278
Deadpool got his healing factor while he had cancer.

>>89500318
Why not?
>>
>>89500333
Not impossible, they retcon shit like that every decade.

It's also possible that the person in question got aids before his mutant genes become active. AIDS attacks the immune system, so even if his mutant genes would defeat it afterwards, he would still have an immune system so fucked up that a common cold could kill him.
>>
>>89500249
>would he die?

It would be very painful
>>
>>89500321
>They also mentioned in one story that mutants can't get AIDS anyway.

that seems pretty stupid. Do the writers know how HIV works?
>>
>>89500378
Does that really matter in a comic book where you have people shooting punches from their eyes?
>>
>>89500345
>Why not?

Because a bullshit writer wanted to have his characters have loads of unprotected sex. Also, he gave Angel "healing blood" as a secondary mutation, and felt the need to address the fact he could bleed all over people without problem.
>>
>>89500419
I'm 99% sure it was Chuck Austen who came up with that, so it's not a surprise that it's such bullshit.
>>
>>89500419
>Because a bullshit writer wanted to have his characters have loads of unprotected sex.

If they've all been screened beforehand then they'd be fine. We already proved this with Francesco Redi, you don't get STDs spontaneously when you have unprotected sex, it's some asshole who hasn't gotten a checkup that ruins it for everyone else
>>
It would be extremely painful.
>>
>>89500453
Yeah, Austen had a porn comic in the 90s and someone wrote a letter asking about the lack of condoms and his response was that he refused to depict them and that no one would be getting any STDs in his story.
>>
>>89500345
Pic-related. Also, Chuck Austen.
>>89500333
Are you sure you aren't thinking of the Legacy Virus?
>>
>>89500249
What do you think a healing factor does?
>>
>>89500463
Didn't know about that, thanks, anon. It makes it easier to understand what kind of animal Austen is and why we had such great moments like the Havok-Polaris-Nurse Annie triangle and Iceman rebuilding his body from Havok's piss.

it slows him down
>>
>>89500473
That's a dumb explanation.

>>89500407
It does if you care about the comic's verisimilitude.
>>
>>89500610
brutal as fuck
>>
>>89500611
>>>89500473
>That's a dumb explanation.
H.I.V. is a form of Sublime. Mutants are immune to Sublime's alpha gene.
>>
>>89500419
>>89500378
or could be it most mutants are not homo sapiens

cancer and aids are two completely different things
>>
>>89500318
When you say "next step of evolution", "immune to aids" actually comes to my mind faster than "does whatever a toad can"
>>
>>89500278
>Cancer's a different story,
Not really. Deadpool's version of healing factor restores him to a state he was in when he got it. And he already had cancer back then. So because of his power, the cancer doesn't progress any further, but can't be healed too.
Pretty sure with a proper healing factor it would be outright impossible to get sick at all, cancer or not.
>>
>>89500249
Mutants are immune to AIDS.
>>
>>89500249
He wouldn't die, the healing factor would cover the AIDS. Deadpool has cancer but it healing factor is covering the cancer
>>
>>89500610

The same thing pretty much happened to him in The Best There Is, the villain of which could produce diseases (including new ones, which got completely insane by the end).
>>
>>89500378
You really have to ask that?
>>
>>89500249
Even ignoring the more overpowered version of the healing factor from the last decade or so, I think it healed bubonic plague at a graphic novel.

If we're going with more recent bullshit mode, it healed vampirism. I'm not sure how it can heal one back from undeath.
>>
>>89500378
>Do the writers know how HIV works?
These are the same guys who used radiation to hand out superpowers.
>>
>>89500249
Logan can't get AIDS. Or cancer. Or STDs. Or a cold. Or significantly poisoned by any substance not tailor made for him. In a lot of stories he doesn't even physically age because his healing factor keeps his body from deteriorating as normal.

I remember reading a comic where Wolverine was affected by sleep gas. I thought it was bullshit.
>>
>>89500611
>That's a dumb explanation.
is it really though? Mutants aren't homosapien so we can believe certain bacteria and viruses wouldn't have the same effect on them.
