It's unlikely people in the animation department have any idea what's coming down the pipes movie-wise, so it's either a) they're trying to get a headstart on the push by guessing what movies will be coming like they did with Captain Marvel or b) they're trying to get nerd brownie points for having """obscure""" characters, which the people behind Ultimate Spider-Man, Avengers Assemble and Agents of SMASH have been desperately trying to do from day one because they don't understand that shows like EMH weren't popular among fans just because they had less popular characters.
