How many seasons do cartoons last nowsdays? I ask this because of a certain thread yesterday about a certain show that certainly has 7 seasons and is going to have a movie. It seems like it was lucky, so how do other popular shows like Adventure Time and Steven Universe compare?

AT is confirmed to end after 9 seasons. SU only to 5 I think, don't know if it's going to be renewed for more.
There was talk of an AT movie, but god knows how that's coming along. Probably stuck in development hell.

Well it really depends on how successful the show is. If the network loves it, it'll keep going until the creator is finished with production. If the network hates it, they will cancel production on the current season it's currently on.
Personally, I think 3 to 5 is generally the idea amount.

There is a law that says that you have to raise the salary of the team working on a cartoon if it goes for more than 2 seasons.
This is why most cartoons only get 2 seasons.

Seasons aren't a great unit of measurement though- since different shows have different amounts of episodes per season. And some shows change their season length mid-series. Adventure Time has some seasons that are literally double the length of others.

SU's currently set to 5 but it's likely to get more if the creator wants it to go on. It seems like CN's lately been giving shows around 5-9 seasons.

Anything that can't manage a 3rd season is garbage.

CN seemed to have a 52 or 4 season limit, but after Adventure Time blew up, most of their shows are exceeding this. Even Gumball.
