It has a lot of weird scifi plot devices but it's entirely it's own beast.

As terrible as every human in Rick and Marty is they're still likable. I want them to succeed, I want Rick to finally tell his family he loves them and I want the marriage to work and all that jazz. I hate everyone in this show to the point it's unwatchable for me.

You can just look at shows like South Park and all their other great cartoons to know that the network that brought you South Park knows cartoons.
