That bit seemed a little awkward to me. The way Greg asked "Metaphorically?" is the kind of thing that someone wouldn't say except to set up the punchline. It would've been better as something like

>"Because we are the Crystal Gems! We're still alive and we're still the guardians of this planet and all its living creatures!"

It's not a great quote by itself, but it gave me a new appreciation of Pearl's character. It made me track back and look at other episodes, and realize she's pretty much the OG true believer Crystal Gem, and that even if she doesn't understand humans, she's usually the one that is most concerned with keeping them safe. For Amethyst Earth is her home, for Garnet's it's about freedom to rub rocks, but Pearl really does believe that all life is sacred, even if that life tends to exasperate the shit out of her on occasion.

Bruh, she's not saying art or creativity is silly. The CGs clearly like and participate in that stuff. They love music more than basically anyone.

She's saying that humans ultimately can't handle their transience and lack of meaning, so many of them create their own narrative in which they're much more important than they really are - i.e. Ronaldo's conspiracy theories where he's the hero, racial supremacist ideals where your people are the chosen people, most religions.

The point of Gems' problems when interacting with humans is that they've been around for thousands of years, protecting the humans but besides Rose, they didn't bother at all to learn more about them and interact with them. I understand people argue about this episode felt rushed and whether the solution to deal with the cluster was okay or not. However you must be heartless if you didn't feel anything whenever Steven and Peridot had these tiny moments between them. Nothing was forced about it, but it felt truly genuine.

Stop taking the bait. This guy isn't even from /pol/, he just talks like a user from there to get (you)s.

He already has his answer. SU Earth is not real world Earth, there is no religion, the continents are shifted, and racism/sexism/homophobia/poverty either don't exist or aren't widespread enough to garner mention. This is an intentional stylistic choice by the writers, as it allows them to sidestep all the baggage people apply when subjects of race/gender/politics come up. Any actually heavy subjects (classism/racism, sexual repression, tyranny) are discussed through the lens of the Gem Empire, a forgien entity and thus less prone to our weaknesses.

Andy proves shit, his episode was worked on back when Trump was a political oddity and not the frontrunner for the 2016 GOP primary race. The timing of the episode with the election was a coincidence, nothing more.

So, are Connie and Steven still JUST friends? Or is it just implied that they're together now? What are they waiting for.

I've never wanted to see two ~13 year old children fall in love more in my life.

It's a shame that the only fusion who gets a reasonable amount of screen time is Garnet, who the vast majority of the time only serves to say "I can see the future" and "I'm a fusion".

Funny thing is, that line was improvised.
>>
>>89449003
Counterpoint incoming:
Humans also Deal With Shit far better than Gems do.
Compare Greg to Pearl for getting over Rose.
Greg - A'okay within a few years
Pearl - It's over isn't it, isn't it, isn't it over.

I won't say Pearl is projecting but from what we've seen of Gem society, they are part of 'something bigger' and have no choice in the matter, something she's constantly frustrated by. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if as the show goes on it turns out Pearls irritation at humans is caused by a massive and vague sense of sour grapes, while she naturally thinks herself superior, they have a choice in their lives, which she doesn't.
>>
"And let's bring pearl" from the musical episode was a great one

Death isn't really something that seems common for gems though.

Which is weird for such a militarized society. You don't pump out all those soldiers and developers a geo-weapon capable of destroying a planet without some sort of competitor.
>>
>>89483987
huh
never accrued to me SU could do improvising, neat
>>
>>89459579
>Don't you know I miss her too!

That one line really showed a different side of Yellow and Gems in general.
The thing about Gem society is they can't Deal With Shit the way humans do, because they're not used to dying.
Think about it, every human is born knowing that everyone around them has an expiry date, that one day they'll just disappear and never come back. We learn at a young age to cope with death.
Gems don't have that.
Gems are immortal.
They can't into properly grieving and moving on. It's a fucking clever thing to explore for an adult series, let alone a kids show.
>>
>>89482553
He will at least grow a beard eventually
>>
>>89484534
My personal theory is that the gems were designed as a weapon race by some other race, they specifically mention in the show that Gems were designed originally.
Also, you forget that the higher ups are never the ones that die in war, or at least rarely and the Diamonds think of their minions as Mooks.
>>
>>89448973
>Fusion is the coolest idea

This. Fusion is what sets SU apart from other shows and what keeps it relatively well liked on /co/ despite the blatant tumblr pandering and shitty schedule. Fusion being a personification of the gem's relationships instead of a simple DBZ like transformation was a really good idea on Sugar's part, and gives way to creative executions by the staff.

>ITS NOT EVEN GOOD WITH CHIPS!

I'm surprised he hasn't visibly aged yet.

Remember Too Many Birthdays? His age was tied to his state of mind.

Steven has been through some shit, and is obviously much more mature that he used to be.

>>89484534
Death seems to be commonly accepted for cannon fodder like Rubies, I think, judging from the way our Ruby just does not give much of a fuck about her own existence.

>>89493630
They're probably waiting for a particularly "maturing" moment or a timeskip/new season, they can't change his appearance from episode to episode just like that
>>
>>89484583
It's like in LotR when Arwen, a formerly immortal elf, basically dies of sadness when Aragorn is gone, the trauma was so big she wouldn't even see her kids
>>
>>89488142
At the moment there's speculation that in Storm in the Room, Steven will ask questions to Rose's Room relating to Pink Diamond. With all the shit he has been through and perhaps the answers he might get from the room he finally matures physically. Like he enters the room with the height he has now, but once he returns Steven now actually looks like a 14 year old. Taller and a slightly deeper voice.

But who am I kidding the show often forgets to make use of perfect opportunities
>>
>>89470830
The only reason they haven't kissed by this point is because something magic related always gets in the way before it can happen, been that way since Indirect Kiss(same with them outright telling each other how they feel, although I imagine them fusing has made them aware it's a mutual feeling)

Of course them succeeding is inevitable and when it does happen, /co/ is going to explode
>>
>>89498584

Calling it now, the first time they kiss will be when Connie is mortally wounded and it's Steven's last-ditch attempt to revive her.

Maybe that's what happens when they come back from space, hmm?
>>
>>89465163
>cut to steven and greg hanging out
>"dad what's a faggot?"
>"hooo boy, where'd you hear that one?"
>>
>>89484534
It could just be a timescale thing. To someone who has lived thousands of years, someone dying only fourteen years ago would feel like practically yesterday.
>>
>What would you know?!
>You've never even met her!

If there was ever a moment that segmented how fucked in the head Pearl was, it was probably this.
>>
>>89497779
It's funny think of the phrase 'dying of sadness' as being another poetically autistic phrase but there is total backing to that idea.

Personally, I want to see more of the Diamonds dealing with this. If Blue Diamond's character is more empathically focused, while Yellow's is more logically focused, then I am chomping at the bit for what White Diamond's response will be.
>>
>>89499194
What if Connie is dying, and the only way Steven can think of saving her is by fusing.

They would make Stevonnie, but it would put Steven's life at risk as well so if he remained in that form he would be in danger of perishing as well. And it turns into a traumatic dilemma where Steven has to choose between remaining as Stevonnie and buy Connie probably a few days of life at best at the cost of his own or let the fusion stop and more than likely lose the closest person he's had in his life.
