Jacques covered the first two tiers of the hierarchy of needs for all of his kids, Weiss had the third tier partially fulfilled by Winter, her issues are only the final two tiers, something which people generally only achieve in adulthood.

Menagerie bears some resemblance to the real world country Australia with its location being in the bottom right corner on the world map, its deserts taking up a big portion of the landmass, the wildlife being more dangerous than average and the reason for their colonization being the "removal" of undesired people from the more powerful nations. The only difference between the Vacuo desert and the Menagerie desert that we've seen is that Vacuo has a rocky landscape while Menagerie is more like dunes of sand. That makes it harsher, but not unlivable.

Tyrian only made significant contact with his kicks, not his blades or bullets.
I don't think you need aura to protect against someone kicking you.
The exception to this was when he cut Ruby 2/3 times and her Aura was completely depleted. Watch the Pyrrha vs CRDL fight again to see how much damage Aura should be able to protect you from (And I think it's safe to assume no one in CRDL has a lot of Aura to begin with).
Also using your semblance now depletes your aura for some reason despite Flynt using his when he only had 16% left and was only 1% away from being disqualified.
