He's not wrong, but I don't see why Flash couldn't be physically threatening as well as a rich smug prick

Physical bulling still happens, you're English Tom, did you not go to a public school?

I don't have any first hand knowledge, but English public schools are exactly the places where I'd expect physical bullying not to happen.

Yeah, because I would totally let a faggot like that bully me. I'd fucking become the bully if he tried that shit more than once.

Literally the only time I've ever seen physical violence in high school was a rich kid that was the mayors son. Literally untouchable.

Rich kid bully is a smart move for 2017, all jocks do now is get drunk and rape cheerleaders.

But stuck up rich boy Flash Thompson is also alot LESS likely to see active military service, become a gym teacher or have any redeeming value whatsoever. He certainly wouldn't secretly idolize Spider-Man and actively yearn to be more like him... a rich teen Flash would want to be like Iron Man.

I mean how often do you actually see that "school bully" thing played out for real anymore in media and actually taken seriously?

These days, school bullies are either just there to do "tough guy" gags while seeing them as a joke or not really be a bully at all. Pic related

Alright, but now what's Holland's excuse for playing Spider-Man as a limp dick, old man pleasing Spider-boy?
>>
>>89263278
Because part of Flash's character is his father abuses him mentally and physically. Flash in turn takes it out on nerds like Peter and the Football field. That drive to not be screamed at or threatened by his father is what made Flash the ultimate asshole.. yet his hero is Spider-Man who is just looking out for the little guy who Flash himself considers a part of being the victim of his own father's wrath and broken home. His career in football doesn't take off, he joins the military where they mold him into a good soldier. He loses his legs in combat, makes up with Peter who becomes loosely one of his best friends, and he gets selected to wear the neutered Venom suit. It's great character building and a redemption story.

Seems like the 60's supporting cast to me, plus Ned Leeds and Michelle Gonzalez.

I mean, they even dug up Jason Ionello, Sally Avril and Sean McKeever.
>>
>>89263812
reel it back in, cheetoman.
Spider-Man was the most hotly anticipated Disney/Marvel movie when the Civil War trailers came out. The Sony movies were garbage and fans were overjoyed to see Peter Parker back in the Marvel movieverse... up until the full cast list started leaking. Then all the plot details afterward seem to show that the writers are so busy trying to make a "smart, fresh, modern take on an old IP" that they're missing the point just as badly as WB's movies do Superman.

>>89264070
It's obvious they're setting it up as Peter wanting to prove himself to Stark and become an Avenger in order to realize that doesn't matter to him as long as he can help people, leading to character growth.

I find some of the choices so far questionable, but it's obvious where they're going with this, and I'd wager that Flash's character development is also pretty easy to figure out.

>He bullies Peter because he's jealous Peter is upstaging him at school
>He's still an admirer of Spider-Man, as far as I remember
>He'll prove himself by using his smarts to help in some way when Vulture and Shocker attack the Homecoming dance

Screencap this.

This isn't the same Pete from the last 2 series of Spidey movies. There's no Bonesaw fight or arena box-office heist and he didn't steal a bottle of Choco Milk from the local grocery store... We have absolutely no idea where this Peter's moral compass is other than being a broke ass fuccboi livin at his auntie's house in the PJs.
He might as well have been Miles, honestly.

One could argue that your pic is a good example of why they needed to change Flash. He was the same classic bully type of character in the previous two franchises. He's also one of the only named characters in homecoming to have been featured in the previous franchises.

It's an adaptation, no change is inherently bad. Until the movie comes out, I have no problems with rich bitch flash

Nice quads.

Yeah, the entire structure of the movie seems generally laid out based on what they've presented so far and basic storytelling structure.

>The opening flashback with the before/after of Civil War

>Catch up to Spider-Man nabbing the Avengers gang, then the proper introductions to Peter's home and school life.

>Vulture's origin. Apparently he's an average guy who got beat up one too many times and decides to have some payback by stealing the Vulture suit from the Tinkerer and going on a crime spree.

>Introduction of the secondary antagonist in the form of Schultz and his gang and their Vibro-weaponry.

>An earlier encounter with the Vulture to establish his threat.

>Peter joins an academic declathon at some point in the movie, to be close to Liz and take her to Homecoming dance, which Flash also wants to go. They go to Washington for a competition on a Stark-sponsored benefit of some kind which the Vulture attacks, leading to a hostage crisis that Peter manages to deflect.

>Peter is nearly caught by the police and told to let go of the Vulture, but doesn't, leading to another confrontation in New York City where the Vulture damages the Staten Island Ferry and Peter holds it together.

>In comes the turnaround in which Peter decides the Vulture is just too dangerous and he's not gonna roll over because Stark said so. Final confrontation as the Vulture teams up with Shocker and they attack the Homecoming Dance having figured out Peter is Spider-Man.

>By this point, Peter's suit is severely damaged and he fights in his worn-down old homemade costume, a visual representation of him becoming his own man. And he wins, but loses Liz because Parker Luck.

>Earns Tony's respect, but declines to join the Avengers because he knows his place now. Final swing.

>Osborn tease because of course.
>>

This right here could've been a great thing. The Vulture is actually a visually great villain for the big screen, and his fear of growing feeble and being underestimated makes for a compelling nemesis like in Stern's run.
The issue is that not only does the costume suck, but they literally made Toomes Norman 2.0.

he would have an account on facebook where he mocks Peter's fat spic friend and everyone in school would give it a like. and when they're at school everyone would look at the fatso and giggle. and they'd hear like, "did you see Flash's facebook? lol" while walking the hallways or when eating in the cafeteria.

I feel like they did the Vulture to be a low ball villain so they can focus on Spider-Man fitting into the MCU, but it doesn't have a real spark to him when Falcon is already flying around the MCU, and let's be honest, Falcon has lost in every film he's in, so why should we fear old man Toomes?

Also, Michael Keaton is too big of a name to last more than one film.

No it wasn't. The Force Awakens I actually think is worse than Episode I when taken in context. While yes if there had been no Star Wars movies Force Awakens would be better than Episode I undoubtedly, because A New Hope exists Force Awakens is one of the most derivative pieces of shit I've even seen, as the two are beat-for-beat the same as each other. But I actually gave a shit about the characters in A New Hope unlike Force Awakens. At least Episode I was showing us things we hadn't seen in the Star Wars universe, and addresses the issues of Tyranny which is the crux of the Star Wars universe... Oh, that is until Force Awakens came out.

The real opressors in Superhero films are the titular characters involved in this circus act they call heroism. I have no desire to be the victim of post-human “deliverance,” and I never will. The mere certainty of these false idols rescuing people without their consent is a violation of human rights. If you expect me to grovel at the presence of a metahuman and lower myself by acknowledging their unnatural existence, then you are sorely mistaken. These civilians are hostages marveling at the cruel treatment offered by their subjugators. Worshiping these inhumane entities, while I see the true corruption that flourishes within this “sinless saviour" community, and have no inclination in associating with these soulless monstrosities.

>People saying this makes sense

It made sense for Peter to be physically bullied because he was a skinny nerd but he was never scared of them. The only people get verbally bullied is if they allow it to happen, have weak personalities or a scared of the repercussions of standing up for themselves. This doesn't sound like Peter at all

Sometimes you just have to accept when "your side" does a bad decision. Come on, you don't have to act like cultists that blindly follow whatever the company does or says.

The only place where no physical bullying occurs is in some kind of hypothetical school where every student that goes there is no bigger than a scrawny Pajeet.

Any school that has people that a.) have large chips on their shoulders and b.) the physical ability to back it up will have physical bullying. Girls will beat the shit out of each other too.

>>

>MFW Uncle Ben probably isn't canon in the MCU
>>
>>89270163
That's actually a good point. Spider-Man was a role model for me. He showed me that even when everything is against you, you can still do the right thing. Him being bullied made me relate to him, and made me want to be like him. I got /fit/ because of him, and am a cop because deep down I always wanted to be someone like him, someone who does what they can to help others, that great power comes great responsibility. I felt like Raimi's first two movies really understood the baseline of what Peter stood for, and it actually bums me out that Sony/MCU is just milking the name and not caring about the quality.
>>
>>89270695
Peter had that whole monologue in Civil War about the great power/responsibility quote without actually saying it

Like Uncle Ben in TASM but slightly better
>>
>>89263187
Who even cares at this point? Will Flash be a CHARACTER this time at all? I thought they'd do more with him in Amazing, but then, nope. He was always one of my favorite things in the old Lee/Ditko days, and the movies only ever have Flash as a cameo. He never even gets into his full Spiderman fanboy phase.
