I just watched this.

It wasn't bad. I found it entertaining. Loki is definitely the best part of the movie and Thor was okeyish.

Why does this movie get so much hate again?
>>
>>89215429
It doesn't get a lot of hate. Thor 2 does though.
>>
>>89215429
People confuse it with the much, much shittier "Thor 2" without recognizing all the good stuff that Branagh added to the MCU. People forget that after Iron Man 2 was such a disappointment, it was Thor that won audiences back (followed by Cap a few months later)
>>
>>89215429
Because it's bottom tier MCU. But the MCU is so good that even their worst movies are ok. It's only contrarians and companyfags who hate on the MCU harshly. Thor is just the low hanging fruit.

Everything Marlel does is nothing but a tantrum from greedy fat entitled child who thinks they deserve to run every industry. How else can you explain them CONTINIOUSLY dumping some of the worst movies ever made and refusing to stop? They're trying to kill all superhero movies and now that they have Disney to bail them out they're willing to tank their company to do it. Or look at their comics where they're double shipping tons of variants and doing their stupid overshipping policy so that they can pretend to sell comics when they aren't. They're spiteful, lying shits who think they're better than everyone else, and they don't care about their company as long as they can hurt DC. They know they're dying and they're just trying to take DC down too.

I wish everyone who ever worked on or saw a Marlel movie was fucking beheaded. Marlel is the worst company of all time and does nothing but intentionally kill industries out of spite. They think that since they're incapable of making movies that nobody should be allowed to so they're trying to collapse the movie industry. They need to be arrested and put on trial, because this shit is criminal.

Say no to Marlel comics, merchandise, games, movies.

Thor 2 isn't even that bad

anybody who's calling these movies awful should be made to watch Jupiter Ascending, and then Green Lantern

not because it's going to change their minds, just to fuck with them

> Events take place over a day or two

The director, Ken Branagh, did a literal 4 hour adaptation of Hamlet. Knowing his Shakespearan pedigree, its not that surprising - for contrast, Romeo & Juliet took place over the course of 3 days.

> Loki is another boring villain (people like Avengers Loki)

He wasn't that boring - he had his hangups with Odin, and live his whole life as a lie. Plus his machination for betraying Odin, than destroying Jotunheim, was tierd to the lie he was taught, and his own ambitions for power.

>> The Destroyer is a one hit kill joke

True, but he was a plot device. The real villain was Loki.

>> Hawkeye is introduced as a literally who with a bow and arrows
>>> Contrast with Black Widow who does shit in Iron Man 2

I can grant this. Perhaps they felt unsure of using Hawkeye, and decided to focus more on Coulson instead.

It's legit sad that /tv/ has taught a whole group of impressionable young faggots to communicate like this.
>>
>>89219116
/tv/ is cancer

Poor modding, contrarianism and edgy posting has corrupted the place. Shitposting went from something mild into something incredible evil.

/tv/ in its current incarnation should be avoided - its nothing like the glory days when LOST wast still around. The only good threads on TV are the LotR threads, but its not worth risking visiting /tv/ for the evil that has evolved within it.

Steer clear of /tv/

>managed to do cosmic better

no they didn't you fucking tard

>>
>>89219021
The difference being that everyone in Hamlet already knows each other and Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy about a pair of idiot teenagers. Thor is hamstrung by the amount of time it spans, Iron Man covers many of the same character beats but does so over the course of several weeks. Doctor Strange does likewise but extends it over several months and the lead character is still somewhat arrogant at the end.
>>
>>89219021
imo Loki was a more interesting villain in thor than in avengers where he's gone from legitimate angst to whininess and MUH THRONE, and you bring up and good point about hawkeye being brought in wishywashy in this movie.
>>
It's also nice that Branagh is an actor's director and was able to get some legitimately good performances out of the cast. I think this movie is the best Hiddleston has ever been as Loki, and Hemsworth is at least tolerable under Branagh's direction.

Branagh even managed to get Anthony Hopkins to sort-of care, as opposed to the director of Thor 2, whom he clearly didn't respect.
>>
>>89219651
>Branagh even managed to get Anthony Hopkins to sort-of care
This.

You can see it in the growl scene he accidentally improvises. Let's see if Watiti can do the same in Ragnarok.
>>
Thor is a lame and boring character who has never had a really great story in any medium and drags down the rest of the Avengers with his stupid Asgard bullshit every time it shows up.

But other than that, the movie is fine.

Everyone knows that the overblown hate comes from asspained DC fags trying to equate an unremarkable but watchable movie to Snyder's filmed abortions.
>>
>>89219455
Aaaand how different is that from a horny woman wanting to get boned by a honry demigod from Asgard?

I saw something terrible on /tv/ yesterday. Something so evil, so criminal, that it has made arrive at the opinion that, in its current incarnation, it is beyond help.

/tv/ ahd one glory day. When LOST ended. and it got renamed to /LOST/ It was a good time, and there was good discussion about .tv.

But that day has passed.

I do believe /tv/ can change for the better. But right now, its not worth visiting.

When Debbie Reynolds died, a sticky thread was made with the intention of mourning a big film legend, it resulted in over a thousand posts of "gets" and "who?/famous only for being Carrie Fishers mother" on a board dedicated to Film/TV and here we had a great thread on one of her very few VA roles in Charlotte's Web. Maybe expecting people to have watched films 40-60 years old is too much, but you kind of expect it from a board that's supposed to talk about TV and movies.
>>
>>89218774

It has a poor script. I don't think Brannagh had a choice with that, which is the problem that Marvel movies have - they rarely let the directors have a lot of impact with the scripts -- and when they do (as with Whedon) it ends up with crap that very generic to their directors

>Oh Whedon is directing a movie, someone's going to die so we can see STAKES ARE REAL!

I'd disagree with you about Loki - at worst, he's a limited villain but this movie had to introduce a lot, which is a different problem.
>>
>>89218774
You got it mixed, buddy.
Thor 1 Loki was good. Avengers Loki was a garbage joke character.
See what you're making me do? Defending Thor movies.

MCU Hawkeye is the single most mishandled heroic character in the universe. Prove me wrong.
>>
>>89226277

>>job to Black Widow all the time, to show how "badass" she is

Oh give me a fucking break. He lost to her because he was mind-controlled, and he got plenty of heroic airtime in AoU.
>>
>>89226292
>heroic airtime in AoU

That was all just push-back because Renner bitched that he didn't get to actually act - which is how the part had been sold to him, he actually didn't want to come back to CA-CW, that was the point of his farm and all that, but paycheck.
>>
>>89226871

>That was all just push-back

Irrelevant, it still happened on-screen, it was still in the movie. The internal politics have zero bearing on this discussion.

Thor has some of the greatest stories to come out of Marvel comics. Simonson's is one of the best cape runs of all time, then you have Kirby, JMS, and Aaron doing great stuff. And you have the amazing graphic novels by Robert Rodi that are among the best TPB's that Marvel has.
>>
>>89227210

>>
>>89215429
Fuck the thing I hate the most about both Thor movies (especially 2) was that they spend like 50% of the movie on earth. I couldn't give a shit about earth, I live here and every other movie in the MCU is set here so I don't need to see some boring af set piece on earth and boring earth characters when you have the land of the Gods to explore and cool alien worlds. Like I understand thor 1 because it was a man in a different world movie which provided comedy and nice plot, but Thor dark world did not have to come to earth again for some bullshit plot when it could have spent time in Asgard or some other cool norse looking world rather than Cambridge university. I really hope Thor 3 fixes this shit and spends time in cool places rather than earth again.
>>
>>89227210
>Aaron
You gotta specify God Butcher, man. He hasn't put out anything else good.
>>
>>89215429

Then you have very low standards for entertainment considering how bland and dull 'Thor' is even by Marvel standards.
>>
>>89216349
Green Lantern didn't manage to do anything better than anything. It's utterly unwatchable.
>>
>>89215801

>Romeo & Juliet took place over the course of 3 days

I always fucking hated R&J due to this horseshit, made the entire premise make no fucking sense to me and made it so the character motivations were completely alien in my eyes. Completely convinced me Shakespeare was just garbage that old people venerated because they were told to, until we read Julius Caesar the next year.

Overall I would say that introducing kids to Shakespeare by having them read Romeo and Juliet is probably the worst way to go about it.
>>
>>89219455
Juliet is also only about 14 years old
>>
>>89229609
Introducing anyone to Shakespeare by making them read Romeo and Juliet is the worst way.

That's why I was pleasantly surprised after reading Othello.
>>
>>89229728
Julius Caesar for me

Was also getting into Asterix at the time so it was doubly funny
>>
>>89215429
I'll admit after watching this again it isn't anywhere near as bad as I remember it, and possibly this is only because I've since seen Thor 2 which was far worse

However, that still doesn't make it a good movie....

Thor, should in theory have a much more "epic" movie than this....something much more badass, instead we get some of the same boring fish out of water crap and shitty romcom thing because they wanted to market Thor as the MCU franchise for "the ladies"
>>
>>89229727

DC has more classic movies than Marvel has...Burton's Batman, the original Superman movies, those stand the test of time and are generational American classics

I grew up a Marvelfag and while I do enjoy SOME MCU flicks, we still don't have any classic movies....I know some will count Raimi's Spider-Man, but I've always hated them, and I'd personally count the old X-Men movies but I'm smart enough to know there are enough people who disagree

The Kinlling Joke was an amazing adaptation if you don't watch the first half-hour Batgirl story.

I still don't understand the decision to give her such an important part at the beginning. Yes, they tried to make the moment when she gets sot more impactful, but there is no need for that, it already was for itself in the comic.

You don't need to know that Barbara is Batgirl or that she has a crush on Batman to understand why she gets shot, you just need to know she's the commissioner's daughter.

Apart from that beginning, the ACTUAL Killing Joke adaptation is pretty fucking good imo.
