Marvel and DC have gods typically play multiple roles based on their own selfish whims or perceived duties.
Incredible Hercules has Hera as the main bad guy for most the run with most Olympus on her side. Pluto is a dick. Ares antagonizes Herc despite technically being a hero. Athena is revealed to have been scheming the sequence of events in a bid to have Herc be the Puppet Godking of Earth.
