This is /trash/: the Comic Book. Prove me wrong, /co/ protip: you can't
>>
Don't you just love how /co/ is now suddenly seeing a resurgence in shitposting pertaining an issue that came out like one year ago? Sure this isn't casuals who just found out due to a thread and keep regurgitating the same shit for easy (You)s
>>
>>89177765
Do you deny the existence of a Saga panel where a weird animal is fellating itself?
>>
Go read your kiddy capeshit instead
>>
>>89177790
> a weird animal is fellating itself is DEEP and INTELLECHUL
So /trash/ is like /lit/ done right?
>>
>>89177820
Just say why you really hate the book, okay?
>>
>>89178004
I thought I had made it clear in my op, but...
>space opera doesn't feel as such
>gay porn and furry porn because PROGRESSIVE!
>tumblr pandering in general
>>
>>89178004
Characters are flat and unlikable and the setting has nothing going on in it despite being a whole galaxy at war.
>>
Starstruck, now that is a good surreal space opera. Godly art, solid writing...
>>
>>89178133
Tell me more.
>>
>>89177741
Is this thing still fucking going?
>>
>>89178144
For starters, it's a prequel to a very off-Broadway play written (and still played?) by the writer, Elaine Lee. Despite this, you can read it perfectly.
The art is by Michael Kaluta, a REAL illustrator. There are reprints, but if you can find older ones with the original coloring, much better.
The storyline includes several small ones, which go from a Paul Atreides parody to a little girl lost at a fun fair. Not necessarily linear, but the art and the writing are good enough to keep your interest.
All of it with a sense of wonder and a surreal tone that makes this book deserve much more attention than it ever got.
>>
>>89178184
Yep. And it's one of Image's bestsellers besides TWD. Go figure.

Saga as a space opera sucks but what makes it good in my eyes is how it handles characters.Every character is affected by the war and there actions and belief are affected by it.Every character is flawed in such a human way like drug problems, anger issues,PTSD,Trauma, loss. It has it's weird moments but scenes of Markos dads last words to his half born data,Robot IVs utter shell shock at his wife's death,Wills attachment problems etc all give it a sense of life that makes for a fun read.Yeah Vaugn relied a bit too much on gross out humour but scenes like pic related are why I enjoy the book
>>
>>89178248
>6 years old
>did bad things with--
Now I know why tumblr likes the book so much.
>>
>>89178133
This is true, and Starstruck is definitely much better than Saga, but Saga isn't terrible just for having a couple of moments of gross-out humour. I mean this thread is blatantly as >>89177765 says, e.g. nobody is bitching about the giant with the diseased dick.

If you ever read and liked a BKV comic (and I personally find BKV pretty overrated) you should probably give Saga a shot. The gross and juvenile shit in Saga is really the same gross and juvenile shit in e.g. Y the Last Man or Pride of Baghdad applied to a science fantasy setting.

>>89178023
It would be fun to show you the threads here from when Saga was first announced, but I don't think desuarchive goes back that far.
>>
>>89178277
>the giant with the diseased dick
See? /trash/ tier.
>I personally find BKV pretty overrated
I enjoyed Y the Last Man, but the Ennis-esque tone was probably the main reason. I tried Ex Machina twice, but I dropped it after 5 or 6 issues.
>I don't think desuarchive goes back that far
I know 2012 threads are still there. Have a go.
>>
>>89178275
Child prostitutes are a real thing, seeing a little girl get out of that situation an deal with it isn't exactly tumblr empowerment
>>
>>89178346
It's edgy in any case.
>>
>>89178313
That giant was early on in Saga while I was still reading it, but it's the same sort of thing as this image from an issue a year or two ago that you saw on this board only recently.

I don't know what to say to you man, you just seem really fucking triggered and you don't seem like you're thinking rationally about this comic. For example, I would bet money Ennis has thought about putting a dragon sucking itself off in a comic before. Ennis is no stranger to gross-out humour. Why does it bother you so much in Saga?

I did look on desu and the first threads aren't there, but you won't see much initial negative reaction to Saga even in what you do see.

I got about 12 or 14 issues or something into Saga before I dropped it, but it is hardly the worst comic going nor does it have especially offensive content.

>>89178371
No more edgy than issue #40 of Transmet, which was actually one of the best issues of Transmet.
>>
>>89178402
>you just seem really fucking triggered
Not really, no. What is a pity is that it sells so much when there are much better Image books around.
>comparing that hipster BKV to Ennis or Ellis
lol
>>
>>89178434
I'm only building from the Ennis comparison someone else made here >>89178313, the person I'm replying to.
>>
>>89178460
Ah, OK. Yes, Ennis is no stranger to gross-out humour, but he knows that this kind of humour doesn't necessarily work in every kind of book. Otherwise he would have used it in his Caliban.

Hardly.Edgy is trying to be adult in the most basic skin deep way, dealing with the effects war, prostitution and death have on people isn't edgy
>>
>>89177741

Did it really take you that long to figure it out?
>>
>>89178528
>Edgy is trying to be adult in the most basic skin deep way
Hence the self-fellating animal.
>dealing with the effects war, prostitution and death have on people
But does it do it so the space opera setting is necessary?
>>
>>89178494
Sure. I feel like that's a take it or leave it writer situation, though. Like... there's no way of thinking about a work where you have the authority to dictate that beyond your own personal tastes. BKV uses gross-out humour in a lot of his stuff, and Saga has his gross-out humour modified for the setting just like his other books have.

You can say Ennis is better at it and has more of a range with it and I would agree, but that still doesn't mean Saga is fundamentally anything other than Not For You because it's in Saga. It's not worse by some objective metric for having it.

On the Image books point - I personally find a lot of Image stuff, especially the sci-fi, kinda tiresome. I chalk that up to reading a lot of manga and a lot of 2000AD and Megazine when I was younger. They usually have better art than writing too (Saga's not an exception there IMO). But I'd be interested in knowing what Image books you'd sell to people all the same.

Yeah Vaugns sense of humour can be childish but to call the entire series trash based of stuff that happened once in a couple of issues and hasn't happened in about 10 is BS.As for the setting it let's Vaughn play with different cultures and ideas without directly offending anyone, plus the setting did give is some fantastic visuals and designs, like the ship,Robots species, the ghost, and some nice action. The space opera is the weakest part of the book but it isn't trash tier desu
>>
>>89177782
Who cares?
Does it arouse you?
>>
>>89178571
>BKV uses gross-out humour in a lot of his stuff
And he isn't very good at it. That's a reason why the book fails for some of us.
>I'd be interested in knowing what Image books you'd sell to people all the same
Tough question, I must admit. Especially as regards scifi. I personally like Roche Limit and The Fuse.

>>89178663
>The space opera is the weakest part of the book but it isn't trash tier
But if you have read other, and better, space operas, it will look as such.
>>
This >>89178052 is a lot better argument than this >>89178023
>>
>>89178721
They're both pretty YMMV but I do agree the war in Saga is pretty shitty as its shown to you.

That art looks so artificial.

>>89177741
ive only read the first 2 trades, but i like the cat that says when someone is lying, and that dude who rescued the kid from prostitute planet. thats about all i really remember from the series. that and ghost kids i think
>>
>>89178737
I mean I'm the guy who was arguing with that guy, and although WicDiv is again not exactly 100% my thing it's definitely not trash either.

there's been like what, two instances of gay porn in the comic? And one of them was IV telling the person who shot him to duck his dick.

>>89177741

IV is stil in the comic, you can call it trash IF and when he dies and his son doesn't take his place.

I found the book tiresome to read after a while. The plot advanced at a snail's pace and the melodramtics really pushed the fact that this was essentially trashy pulp for women. Also, the cliffhangers/"""shocking"""" deaths just got dull.

Also, fuck this bitch. Wish she died writhing in agony.
