I used to absolutely love them but the increasingly sporadic updates got too ridiculous and I stopped giving a shit. The pokemon comic was especially irritating since he's go so long without an update only for the new page to be some random shot of someone looking around or something.

Don't know if any of the old jokes still hold up once the rose tinted glasses are off, but man the new strips really suck ass.

Prequel is great, it likes exploring the whole webcomic/text adventure format and is pretty creative. If you can make it past the big hurdle near the start (you'll know it when you get to it) then you'll find the rest of the story getting better and better.

VG Cats comes from a very, very early age of the internet where very few actual cartoonists used it. As a result stuff like VG Cats actually looked somewhat impressive, since the alternative was MSPaint /b/ comics or horrible deviantart sprite shit.

VG Cats art has improved somewhat, but it's obvious the artist is really just polishing a turd. His fundamentals are total crap, he can't tell a joke and in the modern hyper-competent (though libtard-infested) internet artist scene he just can't compete.

There seemed to be a lot of collaboration and sharing of characters when it came to sprite comics.

8-Bit Theater is the best

Honestly I liked it when I first stumbled across it. I was a wee lad that still visited newgrounds on occasion. I think I even have the rat flail and chocobo inbreeder shirts in a box somewhere.

I was pretty new to the webcomic scene as a whole and I had a very sheltered, internet free childhood so I had nothing really to compare it to. I forgot how I even found it.

I think StumbleUpon brought me to VG cats back in like 2008(?). I enjoyed it, good memories. I would have been ~17 at the time. I distinctly remember Aeris being the first furry type character that confused me sexually. I never read Homestuck (aside from the prologue, which I bounded off of), but they seem like very different beasts. Both follow the format of allowing readers to suggest how the comic progresses, but the focus and tone seem worlds apart. Homestuck appears to be some sorta massive odyssey spanning across a multiverse of worlds and characters. Prequel is hyperfocused on a single character's relatively mundane attempt at not being a complete fuck-up.

Prequel is certainly more accessible.
