How come Marvel's black characters are so much better than DC's? Marvel have characters like Luke Cage, Black Panther, Blade, Storm, and Monica Rambeau, while DC has fucking Cyborg.
>>

Marvel characters are cuck fantasies

>Storm
Complete utter trash.

>Monica Rambeau
Unpopular good character.

Just the token black guy on the JL. Can't even consider him a character. Stewart would had been a better choice if Hal wasn't the Token Green Lantern. And Steel would had been a better choice if Superman wasn't there.

Marvel has historically been more progressive than DC. It's a trend that they continue to this day.

By pushing black characters in the '70s, They are literally decades ahead of DC in flushing out the lore of each character.

DC tries to make it's characters iconic and timeless, while marvel tries to tie in more with current events.

Trying to do something timeless with black characters usually means ignoring central shit like the civil rights movement, and modern black culture, or at the very least de emphaisizing that in favor of other shit. That's hard to do, particularly for comic writers who's political sensitivities are on a hair trigger.

DC just had the misfortune of having a few really fucked up ideas and that set them back.
Like, it's easy to forget that DC is the company that said "What if our first black superhero was actually a white supremacist that transformed like the hulk" and had to be talked out of that.
DC is the company that said "There are no black people in the future because they all went off to their own island"

Having said that, now the tables have turned and Marvel has gone full retard because they forgot to actually make characters and just want brownie points.

Generally DC only has one major black hero per decade.

>70's- Black Lightning
>80s- Vixen
>90s- Steel
>00s- Terrific
>10s- Cyborg

Meanwhile Marvel usually releases a whole bunch of minority heroes at the same time once every 10 years and let's them sit around and if they don't catch on they fall to obscurity. So DC picks one hero and pampers them while Marvel has a sink or swim method. Results may vary

One of the issues is that DC is older as a company.
Consider when Marvel's big names started poppiing up. Spider-man, the Fantastic Four, the X-men, Hulk, all those are characters born of the 60s.

Compare this to DC that already had their big names like Superman Batman and Wonder Woman a good 20-30 years prior. So DC is a little older as a company.

And the older you go, the whiter it gets. The ink dried later for Marvel so they had an easier time getting in on new fads like the blaxploitation era without people thinking it was some kind of brand betrayal.

>You would have to be brain damaged to think that DC's minority characters are less prominent or numerous in comics than Marvel's.
They fucking are though
>>
>>89137102

hey, his ongoing is pretty good. but will be forgotten so yeah, He pretty much inherited Jonn's place in the DC universe.
>>
>>89139699
What's so bad about CAGE? I read it since it has the creator of samurai jack.
>>
>>89150722
>less numerous
absolutely not

>less prominent
arguable at best. Cage and Storm are fucking bit players too, one of whom has never carried her own book, and another who has to be joined at the hip of another to remain afloat.

>>89152306
Nothing, it's a highlight of Marvel's current output
>>
>>89143253
DC's been trying to make a Superwoman happen for ten year now, ever since Batwoman proved a success. Anyone remember Lucy Lane?
>>
>>89139699
>Power Man & Iron Fist is a sjw mess
No it isn't. It's about street level heroes taking on street level shit. You want a sjw mess, read GLA

>>

Is Val-Zod the president or the multiversity one?
>>
>>89139066
I keep forgetting that Black Manta is actually black. I didnt really give a shit about him until young justice. He took his helmet off and I was like "Oh shit, for real yall?"
>>
>>89154160
The President one is the Multiversity one. Val-Zod is Earth 2 and he's not as bad as people say. He's not very good, but not bad.

Hal's mother is jewish, not him.
Though idk how judism works, so he could be forced to be jewish by his mom for all I know.
>>
>>89136778
How come DC's black characters are so much better than Marvel's? DC gets Steel, Static, John Stewart, and Cyborg, while Marvel gets fucking Falcon.
>>
>>89136848
>Cyborg is an actual character
nigga WUT
>>
>>89145320
Because being first isn't as important as being first AND SUCCESSFUL.
>>
>>89154394
Miles just played a huge role in Civil War II
Storm is front and center representing the mutants in IvX
Black Panther was the heart of Hickman's New Avengers, including Secret Wars
FalCap had a pretty big role in Attack on Pleasant Hill IIRC.

>cameo

He had a decent sized role in the movie.
Was part of one of the end teasers centering on his movie.
Had hot enough actor that gots panties wet.
Several good action scenes.

I'm not sure if you're retarded or english isn't your main language.
>>
>>89154489
Didn't Milestone take Static back because of how DC fucked him up?
>>
>>89154187
So you don't actually read comics.
>>

>popular
TV flop, the actor was in jail, and writers/editors tend to only push characters they love from THEIR childhood (pre disney)

>vampire craze
I think he did popup here and there. Mostly in ultimate though.

>film
Too little, too late. Too many plates spinning now to fit in Blade. Add in westly defined that role and it just isn't worth trying to slot for tv/nf/movie.

>black man
They pre planned BP for that spot. And they also have Falcon/War Machine as well. The rest of the spots need to go to gays, muslims, and females.

>background
You fell for the house of ideas meme didn't you?

>moving the goalpost

You're the one moving the goalposts here because being first was not even the question that was asked, Mr Strawman. That's your own construct. Being first is irrelevant if people don't care -- this includes throw-away productions that were made simply because they were NBA athletes' ego projects. If you're not going to put any effort in telling a story, what's it matter if you're just doing a disservice to the source material anyway?

To remind you again what the ACTUAL point of the discussion was: Marvel has historically been more progressive than DC. Marvel has given back characters more chances to lead their own stories in the comics and extends that sentimentality to TV and film media which gives their black characters an even wider appeal to include casuals.
>>
>>89136778

I think the black characters in Marvel pander more to black people in hopes to get people interested in comics. They have popular characters but I believe they are black first and characters second.

I think Static, Amanda Waller and Black Manta are all better than any Marvel black hero but I agree that Marvel has been better at selling their black characters and they probably have more of them. DC has less of them over all but I think the few they have are much better written and interesting.
>>
>>89142094

Static, John Stewart and Cyborg are probably as big as it gets for DC black characters. I think Amanda Waller is better than all of them. Glad she got a part in a movie twice, once in GL and abit in SS, strange it happened at all.
