I disagree with this, but on the grounds of how those characters were initially conceived and Amy is portrayed in the games rather than how they ended up in the comics.

Amy has always had a one-sided obsession with Sonic that isn't related to his actual personality. She's the fangirl who sees him as this amazing celebrity crush and she wants to tie him down, get married and have a nuclear family with him when Sonic wants absolutely none of that. She's in love with what Sonic is as a concept, not necessarily in love with who he is as a person, and it's very much an immature childhood crush that she will eventually grow out of.

As for giving Sonic emotional support, he's not the kind of character who needs it, at least not in the games. Sonic is always self-assured and just out for adventure rather than fighting for some higher purpose or struck with self-doubts and identity issues, so Amy's emotional support is lost on him.

While I don't necessarily like Sonic and Sally as a romantic couple, the way they were written in the early comics (I'm talking before even Endgame) Sally was less of a controlling force and more of a directing force. She only tried "holding him down" when he was short-sightedly going against what was best for everyone long-term, and even that was rare. Plus they had good banter.
