Also you can never force a cosplayer to cosplay as something, it has to come to them.

His cutaway skits have absolutely no sense of comedic pacing as they run on absolutely forever and either have no real punchline or go on well past the punchline. He's just painfully unfunny.

I still think some of the old eps are funny in a cringy sort of way. Most people complain about his excessive and often unfunny skits

Not genius but funny.

>>
>>88940662
Storks was fucking awful. I'm usually not that picky but holy fuck everything felt as if it was written as the movie was playing out. All of the dialogue wasn't funny and rambled on constantly. Not funny, felt packaged from other films, just dreadful. If Norm wasn't out it would've been the worst animated film of 2016.
>>
>>88940662
But Storks was a funny movie. I wouldn't call it the funniest, but I was laughing pretty consistently throughout the film.

Doug Walker is entirely devoid of talent in all areas. I mean jesus christ, how can any man be so grating AND such a black hole of wit.
He's only known at all because he got into ""scripted"" internet videos pre-Youtube and built up a pyramid scheme of circlejerking with equally-talentless losers. If he'd started any later he'd still be a janitor or whatever the fuck his job was (that he quit on camera in the most cringeworthy way imaginable).

His review of the "corporate made us give the purple horse wings" episode was hilarious. He talks about this completely transparent episode trying to justify making new toys as if it were a religious epiphany. He loved it so much because it called back to previous episodes. That's literally all he cares about, he does not give a flying shit about entertainment value or anything that normal people care about. He's a retard.

An honest, unbiased opinion that isn't negative or malicious in nature. It's relatively easy to tell the overall sense of humor the film has based on the jokes shown. Plus, it's very difficult to imagine it being funnier than every single other movie that came out this year.

All I'm saying is that I'm sure it's good, just not the best.

Plenty of his reviews are alright, but he wastes an obscene amount of time and energy into making elaborate effects and skits that only further demonstrate his poor writing ability.

7.5/10

Good
Some really good jokes, made me laugh a quite a bit.
Main characters actually grew on me.
Ending was heartwarming .

Bad
A lot of rambling jokes that went on for a bit too long
The fucking pigeon ruined every scene he was in.
Story felt rushed at times

Solid movie, would definitely watch a sequel if WB makes one.

He spent half the time not even talking about the movie and by the time he actually gets to the movie he doesn't even complain about awful characters like Rei or Poe ,and bitches about non issues like Rei not immediately jumping on Finn's BBC.

It was bland at worst and ok at best with a few people who liked it a bit more than that and some people disliking it more than that.
And thats fine, not everything has to be amazing or groundbreaking, sometimes just ok is nice to watch too.

But overall a "pleasant surprise" is not deserving of being called "underrated" and "the funniest movie of 2016"
People are calling out doug on his sensationalizing shit, not the movie itself.

His older reviews were alright, aside from the forced "memes" he made. The only real problem was his skits, which just felt REALLY awkward and unfunny. As time went on, he put more and more skits into his episodes, and made them longer and longer, to where the movie being reviewed was barely relevant and the vast majority of the video was dedicated to some shit plot he made up; he's not good at acting, his humor is incredibly dated/just not funny, and the skits just go on and on and on far beyond the point where you've already figured out the punchline. He stopped making videos about reviewing movies, and instead makes review-themed skits.
>>
>>88940662

His new skits are terrible. Either they go on for too long with no punchline, or, bizarrely, have muntiple unfunny punchlines one after the other. Judy was an allegory for sexism, but then Disney backtracked by saying, 'oh wait, no, we're totally open about having women on the workforce because we're progressive like that.'

That's why the movie was mediocre--they used anthropomorphism from a 'literally-animals' standpoint rather than characterization, so the themes got muddled.

It's like that one comic of Blacksad where it was a 'white only' town--no, it wasn't about animals with fucking white fur, it was about fucking white supremacists.

The biggest argument with most service-level position is that they lack the physical prowess to fulfill their job.

I have no problem if a women that's capable of kicking my ass is saving me from a building, but it's the women that want to do because people simply told them 'no' that I have a problem with.

If the can do the fucking job without their gender/sexuality getting in the way, that's fucking fine. If they literally can't do their fucking job, then it's just affirmative action.

Most films are decent if you dim the lights and watch it for what it is.

The problem with most kids movies nowadays is that they're all action-comedies. The occasional one is fine, but considering majority of kids movies are, it doesn't inspire much hope for this future generation.

Please, somebody who watches Nostalgia Critic and is familiar with the episodes, help me.

There was this one cut-away scene, just a few seconds long, I think it was at the start of a list video or something. It was just a badly drawn picture of some trees in a field with Doug doing a little dance with an annoyed look on his face while some music played consisting of annoyed-sounding noises alongside a drum beat.

I haven't watched any of these videos in years, but that 'music' has been stuck in my head recently and I need closure. Please help.

When he revived NC he just continued Demo Reel stealthly, also he pussed out on using copyrighted music from the shit he is reviewing and then those godawful skit only reviews.
>>
>>88943175
RLM is just as snob that looks down upon geek culture.
>>
>>88973359
>he just continued Demo Reel stealthly
I heard that the contracts with his Demo Reel cast had to be fulfilled, so he had to keep them all around.
>>
>>88973881
Doesn't seem to be the case at this point, one of the people in demo reel moved on to other things and he just hired someone to replace her...plus I personally find Malcom to be entertaining.
>>
>>88973076
sounds like sequel month
>>
>>88973359

He really didn't have a choice. The copyright takedowns kept screwing him over.

That's why he stopped NC in the first place. Spoony mentioned that shortly before filming TBF they went to Washington to lob against Congress about free use and parody. And were basically told to take a hike, they'd side with the rich Hollywood guys over a bunch of nobodies any day.

But Demo Reel didn't sell and since his and sites livelyhood basically is dependent on it they revived NC but with more excuses to not use copyrighted stuff for fear of takedowns.

And it still didn't entirely work. I think he had a review that consisted entirely of promotional stills and they still went after him.
>>
To be honest, I enjoyed early NC, & some of his current reviews can still be fun to watch, skits aside.

Don't get me wrong, when they're bad, they're really fucking bad, but he can still put out a good review every now & then.

He's best when he's quoting the movie.
Like when he's showing us a scene and putting his own dialog next or something. Some of that is gold like his Flubber review where Shooter McGavin shows up and he says, "I'm the antagonist." or Patch Adams with, "Moooooost unorthodox!"

He'd work better as an over the top movie shitter like RLM or IHE but more animated.

Doug is cringey af bruv
I always get a kick out of when he does appearances on Cinnemassacre and you look in the comments and see half the people don't know who he is and hate him, or do know he is but still hate him
It adds another level of cringe...first level is just watching him interact in the video, the second level is looking at the comments knowing it's gonna be tons of bashing poor ole Doug

I agree, honestly; I wouldn't call older NC great and it was definitely funnier because I was younger, but the earlier shit had some charm from Doug's amateurishness. It helps that the reviews tended to top out at 10 minutes back then, too, and that was for longer ones.

Doug is basically a proxy for internet reviewers in general. Also he's been bad about the skits for a period because of those two actors he kept around from that failed project.

Skits overtaking the review/commentary seems to be a fundamental law of nature.

>did one thing about Power Rangers comic.
>realized an untapped market exists on Power Rangers nostalgia after they came out of the wood work on that video, he was already a fan of the series but he saw the potential and dollar signs so he buckled down.
>beefed up on his PR related stuff to the point where its all he did for awhile
>gets a free hotel room plus a lot of other free shit and is a guest of honor at a bunch of cons now, further making money off it while saving money at the same time

I love Power Rangers and all, but still makes me wonder what he would be doing if he didn't go full on Power Pandering. Then again he could have just redone his Silent Hill stuff around the time of PT and Silent Hills being canceled and done the same thing but it wouldn't have been as big a deal as he became in the Power Rangers community to the point he could just take over a con chair if he wanted.

I don't think it was so much Doug forcing a meme as much as it was him attempting to get as many pages named on TV Tropes as he could. That was what the Big Lipped Alligator Moment was, after all.

>>89001168
I can't recall exactly, but he went into a lot of detail about how Channel Awesome collaboration movies worked, and how after a while there became so many people on CA that they became oversaturated with people who were all given equal (or close to equal) screen time, coupled with the fact that the bigger names in CA had their own personal goings-on behind closed doors.

You can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkUQEQtFjUo&
>>
>>89003596

Pretty much Spoony thought it would be better to cut it to just the popular and well known people while Doug wanted to toss in new people every movie.

On one hand Spoony is right that it became a clusterfuck. On the other hand it was kind of good for Doug for at least trying to get newcomers some face time and not spite them for being newbies/not as popular.
>>
>>89003731
I feel like Doug should have done two collaborative projects: One with the Old Guard, so to speak, that he could direct himself since that's what he does; and one with the New Guard that he could produce and let somebody else direct, while still keeping in close contact with those involved so they don't get confused.

That might have worked. Instead, we got "Atop The Fourth Wall: The Movie". I actually spent time combining the various parts of all four movies into full video files. Each one is at least three hours in length. I believe the longest is four and a half.
>>
>>88945270
>NC is a comedy show

I think it's reasonable to complain if the thoughts of the reviewer aren't articulated well or have flawed reasoning or what have you.
>>
>>88961655
I mean big whoop, cartoons and comics have been allegorical like that for a long time, from Dr Seuss to Pogo. Sometimes it's more subtle than other times, but I don't spazz out over it. Didn't bother me when Blacksad did it, and it didn't bother me with Zootopia

>To Boldly Flee (2012): 03:29:16
>Atop The Fourth Wall: The Movie (2015): 01:59:55

So yeah, my bad. But goddamn, a three-and-a-half hour movie.
>>
>>89004019

To Boldly Flee was more of a mini series.

It was released in chunks over the course of a week.

All of the TGWTG movies were but TBF was the longest and had the most parts.
>>
>>89004214
Nah, I'm aware that they were all released in parts. And I dunno about To Boldly Flee, but I'm pretty sure they were all meant as full narrative pieces, and not as mini-series.
