To be fair, humans are much more perceptive when it comes the the uncanny valley and human characters, because we are so familiar with how a real human looks and moves. It's not as obvious with chimps because we don't see chimps daily in order to spot the uncanny valley forming from the cgi, so to speak.

Makes sense. I'm pretty sure they just gave his lines to Scarecrow without rewriting them; Crane never had a sense of humor like that in the other two films, and in Rises he's doing stuff that has nothing to do with fear (but is related to fucking with the social order, which was always Nolanverse Joker's whole deal.)
