While the drawings are charming, I've never been particularly fond of the comics compared to the books and cartoon.
Just a warning, the books can get pretty fucking weird. Like strangely deep and slightly depressing.

It's been a while since I've read them so I can't remember specifics, but there's that book that was basically Moominpapa's existential crisis. And especially the last one, wherethe Moomins just aren't there, everyone else is waiting for them in their abandoned house and it's kind of creepy because you don't know if they'll ever return or if they're dead or what.
Is Moomin worth watching/reading if you didn't grow up with it?
