What does /co/ think of Jim Hensons's Dinosaurs?

>Dinosaurs is an American family sitcom comedy television series that was originally broadcast on ABC from April 26, 1991 to July 20, 1994. The show, about a family of anthropomorphic dinosaurs (portrayed by puppets), was produced by Michael Jacobs Productions and Jim Henson Productions in association with Walt Disney Television and distributed by Buena Vista International, Inc.The characters were designed by Henson team member Kirk Thatcher.
>>
I guess count as puppets.
I used to watch it a lot as a kid, I was a sucker for anything dinosaur.

Don't remember much, but iirc the kids were annoying, especially the baby.
>>
Fun show, but damn man. That ending.
>>
>>88909997
Ditto. Looking back it was very much the Flintstones of the 90's and not just because of the setting.
>>
The baby is the same voice actor/puppeteer of elmo

>>88910405
I rewatched some Flintstones recently, was better than I expected.

A lot of people nowadays forget that Flintstones started out as a primetime sitcom that just happened to be animated.

Great series. They slipped some very mature content under the radar. And packed it good and understandable in a nice child friendly, more or less, wrapping.

They were your typical kids character.
And the baby was funny but if too random annoying. It got that Urkel-effect.

It was the late 80s and early 90s, Anon. Picture it. It was a frightening and confusing time. The Reds were gone. The eighties were going. The identity of pop culture was shifting. What would be the zeitgeist? What would serve as the template for a new decade and a new world? A cultural icon?

Along came some yellow people, who were hired to animate The Simpsons, and that was it.

It led to stuff like this being greenlit. But more stuff like this was greenlit. More and more. And then it was buried. Buried below trash, andignored in favour of the Simpsons and other good things that were not like The Simpsons.

...I mean stuff like Tiny Toons, Animaniacs and BTAS, obviously, not the music of 90-95, or the fashion. Christ alive, not the music and fashion.

Also, it may just be a coincidence, but this show was probably flagged for cancellation about April 1994, when Kurt Cobain shot himself....

Oh, sorry, I mean "shot himself".

Okay I'll be honest, I kinda made that shit above up a little bit there but it was actually kind of true http://jimhillmedia.com/editor_in_chief1/b/jim_hill/archive/2007/04/27/why-for-wasn-t-this-episode-of-dinosaurs-ever-broadcast-on-abc.aspx

I watched an episode the other day. At it's core it's a parody of American sitcoms of the 90s but with dinosaurs but it was also witty when it wanted to be, emotional when it wanted to be, and absurd when it needed to be.
I'm glad they ended it and didn't keep it going for years and years. Because like most American sitcoms it was parodying it start to become a caricature of it's self and get very one note with the humor.
>>
>>88917450

Maybe they'd repurpose a spare Earl body or something.
>>
As a kid when it aired I watched it every week as I did with basically everything on TGIF and I loved it. Bu that's less because I understood the show and more because like a lot of kids I liked dinosaurs and puppets. Rewatching it more recently it's actually a rather well written show although I think calling it a family sitcom is a bit of a stretch because watching it as a kid it tackled a lot of material that I straight up would have no understanding of. I mean it was basically the simpsons with puppet dinosaurs.
>>
Notice how the two older kids are not the same type of dinosaur as either Fran or Earl.

Earl got cucked. At least twice.

Artsy reply - Puppeteering is a form of animation, in the same vein as claymation. You are giving life to an inanimate object, a physical prop, for the purpose of conveying a message. Yes it is a stretch, but puppets kind of walk that line between animation and live action.

Logical reply - where the fuck else on this site would you post about puppet shows?

/tv/ used to be better before baneposting.

I cannot emphasize enough that baneposting is probably the worst thing to ever happen to 4chan.

baneposting itself was fun for about a month but the fundamental shift in /tv/ poster demographics and content that followed due to baneposting spreading to /v/ and such caused a chain reaction it never recovered from.

/tv/ used to have a lot more film than television content, people actually wanted to watch good things, to discuss good movies, now it's just all stupid retards from /v/ and /pol/ wanking over dumb capeshit crap and EVERYBODY is trying to make the "next" baneposting all the time.

Actually he did. Well, kinda. There was an episode where his mother turned him into a tv child star, and she had a nightmare of what he would grow up to be if she kept forcing him to be a child star.

The adult Baby was just one of the few extra Dinosaur costumes they had on hand. I'm sure the real baby would have looked much different if he would have been allowed to grow up.

Even more fucked up is that Muppet Family Christmas is basically Henson's magnum opus, containing most of his life work. They don't appear in it. Even the bunnies from Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas were there.

So their deaths were pretty damn final.

Its less depressing in real life context, where dinosaurs actually took centuries to die out, and even then the smaller ones like the feathered raptors stuck around for a very long time. Some of those little fuckers were basically dog-sized hawks with crocodile faces that couldn't fly, and hung around in snowy mountains.

Paul Fusco was very eccentric, demanded that ALF got all the top billing and good stuff (he thought the puppet was a real being), and had 14 puppeteer pits in the living room set alone. The entire rest of the cast had to be extremely careful not to fall into any of the pits and get injured, which made shooting take much longer and everyone nervous, especially because they had to look at each other and ALF and not the floor.
