Why do people act like this is a good show?
Looking back at older episodes now it's aged horribly, the story structure is horrible, plot is nonsensical (They can invent tanks and warships but haven't come up with the concept of a gun? Why, because kung-fu wizard magic?), pacing is so fucking bad (it's 90% filler) and worst of all ends at a disappointing climax with a resolution that undoes the entire shows message and cuddles around anti-characterization. The trio cast are all unlikeable whiny annoying assholes too, and Aang is just plain obnoxious.
Now honestly let's be real, this show is garbage. Why do people pretend like it was ever any good?

It's not at all bad, but the plot isn't any where near as remarkable as people make it out to be. People naturally loved that you had a western cartoon with the kind of continuity you'd typically see in anime, but most of the events just go from episode to episode without any larger scale reason why things progressed the way they did. It's never clear why Aang supposedly had to master the elements or to what degree that matted other than they just say so.
The best aspect of it was the comedy.

So you'd rather watch FullMetal Alchemist (original or Brotherhood, it doesn't matter which) instead? The alchemy is somewhat similar to element-bending, but FMA has blood and guns.
