I wonder how she is going to make her comeback and under what circumstances. I was under the impression that Monty just created her to be a vehicle for Yang to have a nemesis (Ruby had Cinder, Blake had Torchwick, Weiss had her daddy) and because he wanted a cool design.

She sort of took a life of her own when she became such a popular character despite having no development whatsoever. My hope is that she returns as a meaningful character and is not just left as a loose end to deus ex machina at a random point.

I'm assuming it's just another form of secret magic that's not yet explained in the RWBY setting. That or it's a forbidden technique or some magical item that allows him to transform. The RWBY setting is pretty vague of how magic works, how it's different from semblance, and if there are forms of special powers one can obtain the setting outside the common methods.
