Are there any other children's movies that fuck up their own message as badly as this?
>>
>>88893207
Explain
>>
>>88893207
Quest to Camelot.

The main character is a girl who wants to become a knight. But she don't know how to fight, has to be saved all the time, and saves the world by running like a bitch and making the villain stumble on a magic rock by accident
>>
>>88893246
OP does not need to explain anything just watch the movie,it is so hypocritical it hurts.
>>
>>88893207

No but some episodes of tv shows did. There was a fairy odd parents episode where timmy wishes he was never born because no one appreciated him and the lesson of the story is that he should do good things despite not getting any appreciation. Sounds like an okay moral until you watch the episode and realize that everyone treated him like dog shit despite him acting selfless.

The entire villain subplot thing made no sense.
>>

Even in principle, it contradicts the intended message against rampant commercialism.
>>
>>88893366
The "Lorax approved" billboard inside the movie itself makes this all the funnier.
>>
>>88893784
nah just nah they're srsly not ruining the grinch again right
>>
>>88893246
The original story was about the dangers of over consumption as the behest of unchecked business growth. The onceler had to confront each compromise he makes and rationalize why he makes his decisions, until at the end he's destroyed the planet and the only hope is for the viewer to change to not be like him.

In the Illumination Entertainment one, everyone's pretty damn good. Even the glowing green kid seems fine. The onceler just did it because his mom said so. And you should plant a tree so this kid can get pussy. Also everything is fine in the end so keep buying kids!
>>
>>88893930
What's more odd is that the original made a point that businesses and the Oncler himself aren't inherently bad, its just that focusing on the short term positives for the economy doesn't prevent long term negative effects on the environment and a compromise of the two must be made otherwise everyone loses in the end.

Meanwhile the one that had an advertisement deal with a car was basically just "All businesses are evil, Money is inherently wrong!"

I don't see how they can fuck up the message. Sure, the Jim Carrey version reversed the message with the Whos being commercial at the start and learning the lesson because of the Grinch, but the overall message was still the same.

I don't expect this remake to be good, but it's pretty hard to fuck up a message as simple as "Christmas is about love, not presents."

Mass marketing and merchandising of the movie for the holiday season

She's been in "The Lorax", "The Giver", and "Valentine's Day". The third film is the only one with a song from her, and it's a B-side she cut from an album.

I wonder if it's contractual.
>>
Easy, OP.

The Cat in the Hat movie.
>>
>>88896653
Wouldn't surprise me, it was just really jarring to have her in an animated musical where her character's MOUTH isn't even moving during the big final number
>>
>>88896781
That's probably the biggest mistake of "The Lorax".
>>
>>88894048
>>88893930
And lets not forget that unlike the original, there was an actual goddamn villian in this.

THe onceler was an antagonist, no quesiton, but ultimately he never wanted to destroy the planet. Whereas O'Hare is out of a goddamn Captain Planet episode, knowingly and intentionally destroying to maintain power and profit.

In the oringinal, anyone and everyone was potentially the onceler, or at least we would be if we carry on as we are. The only other chanc is to be what would save us from his mistakes.

Now? We just gotta get rid of that one really evil bad guy, and everything works out okay!

One of the few almost good things I can say about The Lorax movie, is that seeing it at the time alongside the ironic ad campaign made the whole thing an experience. I feel kinda sorry that children will watch it and not have that particular context.
>>
Dreamworks Trolls

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWgTqLCLE8k

For those who haven't seen the movie (I'm sure that's many of you) the film was about the Trolls quest to rescue some of their own from the Bergens, a species of ogre-like creatures that are fucking miserable all day and night. However, the Bergens do get joy on "Trollstice", a holiday they celebrate by doing the one thing that gives them joy: eating Trolls.

So you have a movie who's moral ends up being "you don't need this single material thing to be happy", which is in service of nothing as the movie is a reboot for a franchise of made to sell toys. This movie is here to sell a bunch of toys (and music, I suppose) as well.

It's a real shame because the visuals are gorgeous, that dance scene at the end in particular, and on top of that one it ends up being a DREAMWORKS DANCE PARTY ENDING that fits in organically enough with the story.

At least that movie was entertaining by just how fucked in the head it was. It was pretty much more of a parody of Suess' works.

Kids need to believe in guardians to protect them but if they don't then they'll get attacked by the boogeyman. Oh, but they gotta believe in the boogeyman to give him any power.

Also:

>My name is Jack Frost. And I'm a Guardian. How do I know that? Because the moon told me so. So when the moon tells you something, believe it.

What the fuck was that shit? Where the fuck did this ass shit come from?
>>
>>88902186
The movie is based on a book series, and I hear it's expanded a lot better there and the whole man in the moon thing makes more sense. Like, I think in there the man in the moon is from a super advanced alien race and he's the one giving the guardians their powers, but in the movie they apparently didn't want to get into the whole thing and instead just allude to it a little.

I really think that Dreamworks expected the movie to take off much better and launch a franchise, and they were going to explain a lot of stuff in the sequels that would bring things together better.
>>
>>88893207
the original is so good, why did they even make this?

some things are better left to being 30-minute specials, things that like have an actual message...when you try to commercialize it like they did with a full length movie cash-in, the message is basically destroyed. It's like they could not sense any of the irony in this.

Lindsey Ellis sums ups pretty much all my feelings about this... flick.
>>
>>88896560

I don't think it's fair to count shit from outside the confines of the movie itself as "ruining" the movie's message.
>>
>>88893930
I don't think having the Once-Ler pursue success out of a desire to be loved and appreciated by his family was a bad decision at all. The problem is that the movie doesn't dwell on his actions at all.
>>
>>88902378
Aliens? Fuck me- that's over-the-moon fucked up.

Yeah, none of that shit made sense, & it's clear Dreamworks strayed far from the original material.

Movie was complete dreck. How did anybody enjoy it?

I disagree personally, but I can see why you'd think that, drinking aside. She's deliberately not playing a character like she was on TGWTG--no pigtails or nerd glasses or costumes--and I happen to really like her natural looks and demeanor more, but I get it if she's just boring or not particularly attractive to some guys.

Actually they were inherently fucked because they had to rely on bottled oxygen to survive. The town decided to look past their comfortable (yet corrupt) lifestyles and focus on the environment for once.

The Onceler did it for the same reasons the original did: greed and success. There's an entire song on him rationalizing his actions.

Kid initially did it for the pussy, winded up doing for the principle. Didn't even give a fuck when Taylor Swift gave him a kiss.
>>
>>88903661
Go back to Illumination, crony.

The Lorax felt empty. I never understood why or how the Onceler & the Lorax stopped going after each others' throats & become buddies. The air was ineffective & a little blonde girl who singles out the villain was a bigger bitch than him.

The Disney Tarzan flips the originals moral and story in it's head.

Kerchak also tries to kill his mom and the fight with Sabor was originally Tarzan killing Kerchak and becoming "King of the Apes".

In the original Tarzan was led to believe that civilization was safer than the jungle, only to find English culture abhorrent and more savage than any jungle he knew.

Also Clayton was his brother who he leaves his inheritance to when he realizes that he's better off in the jungle and let's Jane marry Clayton.
>>

Honestly, I can't understand this casting. It's like they made a pitch for "animate this song" and "let Anna Kendrick have a cynical foil while she acts like Anna Kendrick." Why was timberlake pulled in?

What the fuck was CITH's message?
>>
>>88905863
Tarzan's real name was John Clayton Earl of Greystroke and his brother is William Clayton.

Also Sabor was a lioness and not a leopard.

And Kerchak kills Kala's first baby, not Sabor.
