It took a year and some change of being a dirty procrastinator, but I finally plowed through and finished Multiversity last night.

Can we please, please talk about it? I'm fucking dying to know what you guys thought of it, especially the last issue.

~10 minutes in is where he talks about the Invisibles and his experiences with the comic as a hypersigil.

I'm mentioning this shit, because the Ultraa issue of Multiversity was specifically made as a hypersigil. I forgot the exact intent though, I hope someone can tell me otherwise it's going to be one weird google search.

Honestly, I don't even know what I want to talk about, there are just so many variables and little details in this series that go as far back as FC and arguably even before that, it just blows my mind how consistent Morrison can be with his continuity, and how meticulously he's pieced together his storyline. Then again I'm a severely biased fangay so take that how you will.

I remember the very first time I read through Final Crisis I fucking hated it, not because it was a bad story but because I was thick-headed and didn't approach it as a meta-narrative type story, but rather your standard NOTHING WILL EVER BE THE SAME cross-over event. It wasn't until I got a little older and read more of Morrison's "hypercrisis" stuff that I really started to grow an appreciation for the event, and now I'm obsessed with (non-hamfisted) existential writing like this. I guess I made this thread because I'm curious what you all took away from this final issue, like what it means for the rest of the series, because I can only imagine everybody has their own individual take on it.
>>
>>88890441
Moore also uses it in his new novel Jerusalem, except there the centipedes look like they're made of glass/jelly and only visible from the higher dimensions.
>>
I'm not all that versed in Morrison's work, do I need to read anything to prep for this or can I just dive right in?
>>
>>88890847
For me, part of the fun is the hamfisted insanity hypercrisis thread come up with

Also it's just a fun story
>>
>>88890909
Not gonna lie, there's a bit of back-reading you gotta do for a lot of this stuff to make sense. 52, Final Crisis and Morrison's Batman run all come to mind, they tie into this pretty heavily.
>>
>>88885055
>>88890847
What struck you about the last issue in particular? I'm too stupid to get what was going on with the cube but it felt like the usual "chuck 10000000xinfinity superheroes at it" Morrison mode. Sick panelling though.
>>
>>88890973
I think what struck me about the cube in the final issue is just that, it's the fuckin' cube again. Morrison always comes back to this cube, no matter what appearance it takes in the end it's always the same cube.

It all leads back to Nix's rubicks cube, hell, during Batman RIP I remember that the grid of Gotham is also broken into cubes. It just makes me wonder when the significance of the rubicks cube came into play; before its introduction, or after? Morrison plays with the "open door linearity" of time so often you can't help but wonder.

>>

>>
>>88891481

Hypercrisis reading is just basically most of Morrison's body of work within the DCU.

Check out the classic Crisis stuff (Flash of Two Worlds for the first instance of the Multiverse being established, Crisis on Infinite Earths for how it gets destroyed), then Animal Man, JLA, DC One Million, 52 (Infinite Crisis is optional), All-Star Superman, the Morrison Bat Epic, Final Crisis, his New 52 Superman run, then Multiversity.

Also read the Superman Convergence two-parter. The actual Convergence event comic is trash.

Yeah, exactly. What is the ultimate significance of the cubes?

In that page the NotMarvel characters are breaking down what the cube is.

I think they've been called a Tesseract in an issue once, which I think is an object that's bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. It would be interesting if that were somehow related to the cubes. but, visually hypercubes have pretty known visual. which is not what is ever shown in regards to the cubes.

The 4 here are actually Morrison, Quietly and 2 other guys who worked on the comic.

And to go slightly off topic, Quietly will be having an exhibition of his work at Kelvingrove Museum in Glasgow. The announcement explained Quietly is a fake name, which I really should have guessed,
>>
>>88892016
My thoughts: In visual art terms, cubes are the ultimate lie. When we draw anything to look like it exists in three dimensions, a cube is usually at the base of that construction. The contents of the drawing will never exist in three dimensions, even though the intent is to make it look real. Comic characters live in this state. They exist only in two dimensions, but they can see three when they expand their minds. In the third dimension, their existence is paced by panels and pages. Morrison's cubes attempt to bridge the gap between dimensions and allow for travel across universes in the second dimension. They are literally constructs made by 2D people to instantly reach other 2D places through the third dimension.

The gridded cubes are referencing the panels of a comic page and their need to have order. You change the panels in a story and you change the events.
>>

In a final crisis interview he stated that it was to signify the complex thought proccesses and shifts in narratives like the dc universe. Also, the cube is supposed to signify the impossible. There's a minimum amount of moves which you need to solve a cube. When it is done in less, the rules of the former multiverse become obsolete and anything can happen

So what exactly is the deal with Morrison and Gerard Way. Are they friends? And if so how the hell did that happen?
>>

>>
>>88900400
Way grew up reading comics, and was going to start writing them before 9/11 happened and his priorities changed, like Tom King.
Morrison was always one of his favorite writers.
Morrison's niece is a big MCR fan, caught wind of that info, and figured that she could get backstage passes if she could get them to meet. I don't know how it happened, but it did, and now they're friends and he's basically Morrison's new protégé, since Mark Millar didn't pan out.

Doom Patrol had always been his dream project, and Umbrella Academy was pretty much DP with the numbers filed off.

This was the official hypercrisis reading list. It's a bit old from when people thought certain things would be more important. Use your judgement, but the pre-52 stuff is mostly solid.

It was an /sp/ get claim.

One time during an LSD trip I ended up watching loads of stuff on physics; particularly black holes and the relativity theory.

I ended up coming to this same concept; that time is relative to us (linear), but in reality everything has already happened and every moment is just a snapshot in time moving neither forwards nor backwards in time. We only perceive time because thats how we feel in that snapshot but from an outside perspective it's just one object that has neither a beginning or an end; just different phases.

Blew my mind; nice to see it come up here.

You don't need to read FC, just the Superman side-story from it, which was the best part anyway.

>The Fifth World of Darseid
Holy shit, I wonder if this has anything to do with Aztec Creation Myth.
There were 4 worlds preceding our own according to the Aztecs:
The first sun - Jaguar Sun (Nahui Ocelotl)
The second sun - Wind Sun (Nahui Ehecatl)
The third sun - Rain Sun (Nahui Quiahuitl)
The fourth sun - Water Sun (Nahui Atl)
The fifth sun - Earthquake Sun (Nanahuatzin)

The real darkseid is everywhere. In all universes, always ready to wreck havok. The one in new earth was neutralized and turned into a baby, but the other manifestations are free.

Did he confirm it? I know it was a prevalent theory, I actually believed on it, but I'd be glad if you could link me to a source.
