There was nothing wrong with New 52 Superman that good writing didn't fix, unless you were autistic and took it as a personal slight when they rebooted his history so he was much younger.

For most of his history Superman's parents had been dead. The Ma and Pa being alive thing was an invention of the last 30 years of Superman stories.

It was the poor editorial planning, lack of unified vision and constant crossovers that screwed up the New 52 guy.
