First, hardly any kids read today, and those who do, still have much more access to back issues and will still pick Wally if read. Since Barry's influence is editorially mandated rather than backed by compelling arcs and developments as it was with Wally, kids today won't be s enamored with the current Flash.

Wally has the best character growth of any Justice League founding member. Since he wasn't as iconic as Batman or Superman writers were willingly to actually have him change. Seeing his growth as a character in real time was amazing.
