It's a purely stylistic choice. Faceless imperial troopers versus brave rebels armored only in knowing their cause is virtuous. Does it actually protect them? No, only plot armor really protects because even Stormtroopers die with one shot or you can knock them out by punching their helmets/hitting them with a baton. It's like shields for starfighters, in actual on-screen terms shields do absolutely shit.

It's an old discussion. Honestly we're too early yet to know for certain what happens, and I wouldn't take anything for granted. They can and have done things like that. The Rogue One cast was slated to die because they didn't show up in ANH, which is a bit odd considering Mon Mothma shows up in R1 and doesn't show up in ANH. Just because they aren't back at Yavin during the Death Star incident doesn't mean, really, anything, or doesn't have too. They were actually prepared for Disney to say, "We don't want a slaughter," but Disney was cool with it, so it happened.

Do they actually have to kill off Kanan? I don't think so, at least not from Yoda's line. Honestly what Yoda said doesn't mean much since even if they were still alive Yoda sure as hell wasn't going to tell Luke. Luke's destiny was to face Vader and the Emperor alone, not march in like Mace fucking Windu with Ezra, Kanan, Ahsoka, and, why not, Kyle motherfuckin' Katarn and then pimp slap the Dark Side. They are already well and fully capable of lying to Luke. Especially Obi-Wan. Now we know ghosts are outside the normal rules of time and space. He can see the future of what will happen but he still tries to dissuade Luke from relying on Anakin's feelings still existing in Vader.

There's a very good chance Kanan isn't coming out of this alive. Slightly better odds for Ezra. But who knows when and how, and sure Kanan could decide after they keep fighting that the Jedi way is just no longer the way and gives it up. Maybe the Bendu offers him a new path. Maybe he does something like Ahsoka does, or Ezra does that. Or maybe some other shit will happen.

But does that matter if they survive? We know by TFA that Luke is, once again, the last Jedi. Even if they live it is only a stay of execution if they remain Jedi.

That's what seems so stupid about this. The FO finally did what the Empire completely failed to do. It apparently wiped out the Jedi...except for Luke, but let's be fair the Empire failed with that too. If Lor San Tekka says they are all gone or even if Leia or Han does, that's one thing. We can think they might not know the whole truth or, heck, maybe Leia is helping hide some somewhere and won't betray their secret.

But when the opening crawl flat out says it? That's damn hard to argue against. It doesn't make it IMPOSSIBLE to reveal surviving Jedi besides Luke, but it does make it both extremely unlikely and indicates that JJ and Kasdan and Lucasfilm were fine with Luke being the last again.

Of course within the same movie it's still perfectly fine to have other Force Users like Maz. She almost had a scene where she got to use powers, too. They just cannot be Jedi.

Read Bloodline. They had agents capable of blowing up buildings on Hosnian Prime. They could have murdered Leia and a whole bunch of Senators but the bombing was just meant as a DISTRACTION so they also warned her ahead of time. Even then people died and were maimed and the FO loyal Senator who ordered the dissertation was pissed they chose a bomb.

Later on that same group assassinated the replacement Populist candidate for First Senator, albeit to distract the NR from the fact that it was the FO who was really behind the skeezy shit Leia uncovered in the novel.

The main reason he wanted to overthrow him and rule the galaxy was to make it an ideal place for him, his wife, and his child. Yeah, at the end of ROTS prior to Obi-Wan defeating him he has two things going through his crazy head. Peace and security of the Empire and a brave new life for him and his wife and future kids.

He totally fucks up the last part and thinks he killed Padme and the kids, so he defaults to trying to secure the Empire. If he cannot save Padme he can at least live out his weird power fantasy. He's still rather intelligent and driven, but the way it plays out in Lords of the Sith he's just become very single-minded. In the comics Sheev calls him a blunt instrument, but honestly whose fault is that? Sheev has been happy letting Anakin indulge his fascist fantasies stomping the heads of anyone who gets in his way. This plays out perfect for the Emperor. Vader is extremely powerful but interested only in doing things that further the Empire while not being a threat to the throne.

But after the Death Star is destroyed and the Senate is gone, Tarkin is gone, the Rebellion is growing, now he needs Darth Vader to step up and get the Empire's shit in order until a new Death Star can be completed.

Re-watching The Phantom Menace right now and I have a question. When Padme, Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Jar-Jar, Anakin and the whole crew finally arrive on Coruscant, Qui-Gon hangs back to tell Chancellor Vallorum that he needs to talk to the Jedi Council asap. Anakin kind of lingers behind Padme, the fake Queen and their entourage looking at Qui-Gon and Padme tells him to come on. Then Qui-Gon motions to Anakin to go along with all the Naboo crew. What was the point of this scene? Did Qui-Gon tell the Naboo entourage to baby-sit Anakin for a little while? Why not tell Anakin directly? We see the magnaguard staff block a saber twice even though canon has established that the non-electrified parts can be sliced by a saber. Which obviously means it's a choreography mistake.

Riot batons work similarly, and the electrified parts are specified as what can block it. And the rest of the fight is choreographed to have the saber hit the electrified portion. Therefore, choreography mistake.

Space whales are unironically one of my favorite additions to the canon in 2016. The Vader comic and Rebels cartoon both showed these huge, mystical majestic creatures in different lights, and I loved it.

Reminder that just because something may seem larger than life, or goofy, doesn't mean it doesn't belong in Star Wars.

Probably because this was still when Lucas was driving the stories. He'd wonder why Boba would repaint the armor and then let it get so crappy. They talk about Boba tricking out his armor more than even the Deathwatch did because he has his bounty hunting gadgets too, but that's more of a utilitarian mentality. They also talk about Boba claiming armor from fallen warriors to add to his own collection. Whether a tribute or an insult, would he see fit to recolor it or just wear it as he claimed it?

I guess at this point we might ask why Boba never got that dent buffed out of his helmet.
