I just read Scott Pilgrim for the first time last night, so in honor of my special achievement, let's have a thread.

>Did Scott deserve his ending?
>What did "the glow" represent? Jealousy or baggage or something, right?
>Who was bestest grill?

And perhaps most important of all...

>Why did pic related make me laugh so hard I started coughing?
>>
I remember Scott Pilgrim... existing.
It didn't leave any impression on me, at all. I'd like to say it was absolutely bland, but it didn't even let enough of a mark for me to say that. It's very strange.
To this day I don't understand why it seems to be the alpha and omega of comics to some people.

I liked Seconds by the same author, though.
>>
>>88842142
scott learned to not be a faggot so yes
the glow represents repressing memories to the point where you remember them completely differently and it was a psychological weapon that could surface the feelings all at once (imagine SOP from MGS4 and what ocelot was essentially doing if I recall)
a lot of people tend to favor kim and lisa for good reason
kim is cute and fun
Lisa is similar but a lot more upbeat and less cynical
>>
>>88842142
>Did Scott deserve his ending

Depends if he learned his lesson or not,if yes then I guess he deserves some happiness with what hes gone through just for one girl

>What did "the glow" represent?

My theory is that the glow represents all his regrets or like you say, baggage, which manifests into Nega Scott as time goes on

>Who was bestest grill?

People say Kim but I prefer Lisa by a long shot, her relationship with Scott is bittersweet which hits me hard and she's really cute in spite of Bryan O Malley style being repetitive too many times

Kim deserved better.
Knives deserved better.
Lisa deserved better.

For example, a spin-off sitcom starring all three as roommates in a downtown Toronto apartment, laughing and loving their way through life's trials and tribulations.

Scott Pilgrim is pretty much the greatest, and *one* of the most underrated comics.. seriously.. My only complaint is that it meanders are bit from the main story, but damn is it a funny read..

Hmm Well I will agree. Kim and Knives got it pretty bad. It's not a big secret, Scott is a capital warship class dick. And honestly, even by the end of the series...he's still a dick. He literally didn't change, just became less of a coward.

By the way, check out these Lucas Lee Movie posters

Literally one of the most appealing things about this book is the fact that by the end, almost every single character (other than Scott) is revealed to be gay

Still loved the whole series
>>
>>88848445
oh you mean that 1 character Josef? yea..that's really the entire cast.
>>
>>88848528
Josef was already gay. Stephen was revealed to be gay at the end.

Besides, Josef had the best line in the entire book.
>He is as hot as the flames of the hell you bitches are going too.
>>
>>88848528

Knives and Kim, even if they didn't come out, were also pretty gay together.

>Did Scott deserve his ending
Pretty much, he really didn't 'get' anything though, besides a new perspective on his relationship and life in general. Maybe him and Ramona will live happily together and have 40 million children. Or maybe they will break up immediately after the events. Who knows?

>What did "the glow" represent?

I took it as repressed memories/ the failure to learn from mistakes from your past.

>Who was the bestest grill?

bestest grill is Envy Adams or Ramona because they both work past their previous bitchyness and end up as pretty cool people at the end of the book. But honestly every grill in Scott Pilgrim is pretty chill. I thought Julie was pretty cute but that because I like bitchy girls for some reason.
>>
>>88848247
I'm a fan but I wouldn't go that far. It was a fun read, but wasn't a perfectly crafted story. I think it got the hype it deserved, it just gets shat on by /co/ because it's mainstream and also attracts younger readers

I disagree. But she's definitely in the top 5.

>Did Scott deserve his ending

I've read the series about a dozen times, and the more I read it, the more I debate this question. Scott clearly did some really shitty things and only made a few real attempts at making up for his mistakes (closure with Kim being one of them). But at the end of the day, he earned forgiveness from his friends (who deserve way more credit then they're given in the books), and make a decision to commit to being a better person. You could argue that the shit he did and the people he hurt (intentionally and not) doesn't deserve the forgiveness, but if his friends are willing to accept him that chalks up a W on his side.

>What did the glow represent

I think it's a mixture of a lot of emotional and mental pain that comes with adulthood. Jealousy, doubt, anger, guilt, repressed heartbreak.

>Best grill

I'm always stuck between Lisa and Kim. Lisa is top-tier high school sweetheart, but Kim seems like a great girl to date as an adult (if you don't screw her over though)

While I do think Kim's too good for Scott, I wouldn't have minded this end game.
>>
Slice of life parts were ok-to-good.
The rest was uninteresting after the first "oh hey that's fun" reaction.

Comic's end was crap and the movie did it way better.

The videogame was pretty cool and it's ost was awesome.

>>88845025
Wrong.
>>
>>88854674
I dunno man, I disagree. I like the comics end 10x more. It's got this mix of mundane and fantastic that i love about Scott Pilgrim. Everything concluded in a satisfying manner.
>>
it was for comics what big bang theory was for vidya and kill la kill was for anime
>>
>>88854707
Well, maybe i grew out of the comic by the time i got my hands on the last volume, but i thought the crystal part was really bland, really retarded, and pretty out of character for Gideon.
Maybe that was intended? I don't know. But a crappy end being ironic doesn't turn into a good one.
>>
>>88854751
Apparently Volume 6 was rushed so it could be out before the movie.
That's why there were reshoots for the film so they could make the ending more like the book.
>>
>>88854751
I don't think it was out of character but the fact that It took me a while to even remember what you meant shows how unmemorable it is. Honestly I like the finale fight for several reasons.

1. Scott going into Ramona's head and taking town giant Gideon with a headbutt.
2. The army of subconscious Ramonas kicking him out.
3. Ramona's bag exploding out onto Gideon

Which makes it more memorable than half the other evil ex fights.
>>
>>88854784
Yeah, V.6 definitely felt rushed. The pacing was fine until he ended up at the Gideon club, then everything felt thrown together
>>
>Director Edgar Wright hoped to film a DVD-exclusive gag ending, never intended to be taken seriously, in which the whole movie was All Just a Dream...until a news report reveals that a certain Toronto resident and his girlfriend have been arrested in connection with the murders of seven people, including a film star, a record producer, and three beloved musicians. Time ran out before this could be shot, unfortunately.

The Movie finale works best with the original ending (Scott and Knives) instead of the reshot ending (Scott and Ramona).
There's more development of Knives in the film than Ramona.
>>
>>88855044
Top be fair Ramona didn't get a lot of development in the comic either.
>>
>>88855245
In the Movie, Ramona acted more distant towards Scott.
>>
>>88848247
It was OK. I liked it quite a bit when I was 15.
>>
>>88849286
When I get infinite rich and make a movie about myself I will have Evans as Lucas Lee playing me.
>>
>>88855032

That would have been hilarious
>>
>>88842142
More importantly who was best boy? I'm thinking Stephen but honestly it's been so long since I read it that I can't really remember anyone else
>>
>>88855997

well i never read the comic but i gotta say its wallace xD
>>
>>88855997
Wallace.
>>
>>88856051
Comic Wallace was better than movie Wallace but scruffy movie Stephen was on par with comic Stephen
>>
>>88855997
Wallace for having fun and Stephen for being a bro.
