I was considering storytiming 1 Punisher story per day all year long (or alternatively just 1 issue), but I'm not sure I'll even have time for that, so I'm going to try for at least 1 per week and more if possible.
And since it's the 1st day of the year, we might as well start with the 1st ever Punisher comic (not counting his appearances in other characters' books or anthologies/etc.), Steven Grant and Mike Zeck's original Punisher miniseries aka Circle of Blood.
Most of the storytimes I'll post in the future will be pre-Ennis material, since Ennis' run has been posted and reposted to death on this board. I'll try to eventually cover most of the Baron and Dixon runs and will definitely be storytiming all of Punisher Armory. But I don't have any exact plan, so really I'll just post whatever the fuck I want to. Expect to see some of the Potts run as well as random issues by lesser known writers that you might not usually see talked about. Some Ennis and/or post-Ennis material is also a possibility. I'm also not opposed to taking requests for future storytimes.
Anyway...

This is pretty much the best art you will ever see in a Punisher comic and some of the best art you will ever see in a comic period.

This was one of the first trade paperbacks I bought, almost 30 years ago. Great stuff.

This was the first big Punisher solo story I read. Great stuff.

>soda bottle silencer
>slows the bullet down so much that it can't pass a mattress
Is this actually true? Can anyone confirm?

Fucking CLASSIC cover. In a series with nothing but 10/10 covers, this is probably the best of them all.

note: "Éjszaka" means "the night" in Hungarian. Curious name for a Mafioso.

Boss Morgan was retconned into having survived in Christopher Priest's Black Panther.

>Frank explicitly caring for the innocents
Not muh Punisher.
>>88815996
eh, a low powered handgun maybe. I wouldn't want to trust my life to it though.
>>88817278
He's also trying to make deals with criminals and generally acknowledging that just killing everyone isn't a viable solution.
So clearly this isn't Ennis Punisher.

>>88817278
Except that's how he's always been.
>>88817278

This is early Frank, back when he was somewhat optimistic, altruistic and compromisable, and not 99.9% dead inside.
>>88817504
>>88817488
This is also a viable explanation. It's safe to assume he'd get even more jaded over time.
>>88816455
A later story reveals that she wasn't actually ordered to get Frank on their side by seducing him, she did it on her own and is kind of worried about Alaric finding out.
>>88818277
Frank letting this guy live comes back to bite him in the ass later, like it did with the Rev and a few others.
Probably why he eventually stopped sparing people.

And that's that.

Thanks OP. Punisher stories are generally quite entertaining, even the shallow and formulaic lot. What do you guys think of the current run from a storytelling perspective? Cloonan is trying, but the story seems to ramble with no point, even the super drugs plot device comes off as shallow. Dixon used a similar plot device, and it had impact on how Frank operated in the 3 issue arc. In Cloonan's story, the excuse is, "I win cuz I'm a badass, see?"

>Cloonan is trying
She's clearly not (not that it would matter since she has literally less than zero talent). She admitted in an interview that her "preparation was playing Halo".

His story also didn't really take itself all that seriously. Kind of reminded me of the weirder stories in Ennis's Marvel Knights run.

True, the hick villains, the overdose page. It was all comedic, but that moment in which Frank has fantasies about killing two cops was interesting to say the least.

No problem.
