Why, I do believe it's time for some early Silver Age!
But enough about me, what did you get up to for New Year's?
Got a bunch of Curt Swan for you today - I was hoping to get the whole of the 50's behind me before 2017, but real life wasn't so amenable to the idea.

As I read more and more Silver Age Superman, I become more convinced that the fundamental difference between these comics and modern Superman is simple- these comics were always comedy first, adventure second. All the odd little things we find ludicrous were not just insane writers- they're actual Jokes! We're supposed to laugh at them! What part of robot cops shooting at each other is not funny? None of it! But modern readers are so used to post-Marvel comics that we can't properly comprehend the workings of these comics as they are. Once you start 'getting' that these comics are basically Popeye on steroids they take a whole new layer of awesome.
OP, you're doing God's work as always. Happy Fucking New Year.

That's an excellent point - comics in the 40's and 50's knew they were silly, but they (usually) made sure not to be stupid, and they had moments of pathos. I hope you have a good 2017.
