It's not just you. The actors themselves have far more chemistry with each other than they do with their respective romantic partners in-show.

I mostly attribute this to the girl playing Iris not being able to act her way out of a wet paper bag. She was perfectly capable of acting smitten when Eddie was on the show but once she had to move that to the string bean she just couldn't.

The thing was Patty felt like she could actually be a part of Flash's life, and the chemistry still felt better than what he had with Iris.

Iris will ALWAYS be nothing more than a cheerleader on the sidelines of Barry's life. Patty and Caitlin both make for better matches because they can be onscreen without having to create needless drama to justify giving them the screentime. Because what they work with and do actually matters to most episodes.

Iris's only reason for existing is to be a trophy for Barry. Every scene with Iris is a scene that detracts from whatever else is going on at the time.

It's tough to say. Iris seems a lot worse, but Iris is also a lot worse of a character. And as I said up a bit Caitlin's actress being a bit stiff works since Caitlin should be a reserved character what with everyone she loves dying and all. If Caitlin's actress were playing Iris she could be just as bad.

And that'd have meant we'd have had some white guy playing Joe, which means losing the best actor on the show after Cavanagh.
