What is the future for Kamala?

On the one hand, her book is pulling cancellation numbers at best, but on the other hand, she's one of the only moderately successful new Marvel characters in ages. She's also the only Inhuman to reach any level of success, which is impressive because the vast majority of the world is repulsed by even the classic Inhumans nowadays. And since the Inhuman's are the property Marvel sees as one of their most important, that means she's pretty valuable to them.

With that in mind, where will she be in five or ten years? Will she be shuffled off to the side and stuffed into weird teams that are quickly cancelled and reinvented like other old teen characters, like Jubilee, or killed off and forgotten like tons of other relics? Or will she somehow pull out of this slump she's in and become a respectable B- or C-lister in the future?
>>
>>88671961
>her book is pulling cancellation numbers at best
No? It's selling 24k (thanks CWII), which while not great isn't "cancellation numbers."
>>
Kept alive because even though she isn't selling books, as a brand and character she's still potentially lucrative. May lose her solo and simply end up as team fodder that reminds people she exists.
>>
>>88672009
>(thanks CWII)

This. Is there a single book Civil War didn't hurt?
>>
There are only two potential ends to teen characters:

>reinvention and dilution into something weird and irrelevent (you mentioned Jubilee, which is a good example)
>fed into the meat grinder during events to show that "shit got real."
>>
>>88671961
Uncanny inhumans outsells her in floppies anon. Don't let echo chamber fool you into thinking she does super well.
>>

>>
>>88672049
I don't understand why the fuck Marvel would make CWII. People don't go out to read the Marvel comics after seeing the films, they go to the films to see their favourite storylines finally adapted to the big screen. What's the logic retreading ground you've already published for the sake of acknowledging the films which have already been adapted from said previous stories? Marvel should be making new storylines.

Also, why is everything so fucking saturated in the Marvel U now? Everything's bled into everything else. Things were strongest when crossovers were less typical and each brand was much more distinct. Meanwhile Kamala's already met Spidey, Wolverine, became an Avenger and left the Avengers as renegades forming their own team the Champions. All in her first year.
>>
>only inhuman to reach any level of sucess
She sells worst that uncanny inhumans. Don't tell you are one of those "muh digital" people. She only had teally high digital for first few chapters of her first volume. Her second volume sold worst than the first long before cw2 came around.
>>
>>88672194
They tried to make her too big too fast.
>>
>>88672194
>they go to the films to see their favourite storylines finally adapted to the big screen.

You're implying that the majority of people who go see Marvel movies read comics. They are not. They're people looking for a decent action film who maybe watched the cartoons when they were kids.

And yes, doing movie tie ins does sometimes lead to a slight and temporary boost in comic book sales.

>Everything is about sales numbers
>A character isn't allowed to have stories unless they generate a certain amount of profit for Disney/TimeWarner
This, more than anything else, it's what's killing comics.
>>
>>88671961
Stop involving her in social politics and have her stick to being a local hero and dealing with hero hijinks
>>
>>88672569
The exact same thing applies to independent comics fan. Only difference is that instead of cancelling a book they end up homeless.
>>
>>88672569
/co/ has weird thing where they care more about sales than quality. You'd think they actually worked for the big2. Sure your favorite characters might be sidelined but better that than getting ruined.
>>
>>88672661
Anon you have it backwards. We care about sales because we know there's a general sales threshold for cancellation. We track sales because we worry series we like might get canned if they don't do well enough.
>>
>>88672194
>I don't understand why the fuck Marvel would make CWII
Because they thought it would make a shitton of money because Secret Wars made a lot of money (reinforcing their opinion that big summer events are a money making machine), CWI is still consistently their highest selling trade, and the Civil War movie was about to come out.

From an executive or marketing head looking at all the facts, CWII seemed like a safe bet for big bucks. The problem is that it was TOO blatant of a cash grab to the point that even the brain dead retards that usually love Marvel events didn't fall for it, and because it was rushed and came from a purely money-grabbing perspective rather than a creative one (say what you will about Secret Wars or the upcoming Hydra War, but you can tell those came from writers having stories they really wanted to tell and marvel editorial liking their pitches enough to get behind them and support them, not some marketing exec saying "this'll make mad fucking dosh so make it happen.")

It could not be more appropriate that CWII came out on the 20th anniversary of Secret Wars II, because it's the single biggest and most blatant cash grab Marvel has done since Secret Wars II. It's something nobody wanted, not even the writers at Marvel, but an executive comes in looking at the numbers and says they have to do it. Then the Marvel writers and editors that didn't want to do it in the first place are forced to change all their plans to hurriedly try to work around it.

>Kamala is inhuman
>she is being pushed harder than any single character not named carol danvers

Kamala's solo could run another year before marvel pulls its plug. Even then they would just relaunch her. Kamala isn't going anywhere unless the carol, inhumans, and legacy push die first.

>tfw ANGR is turning into an FF book
I have a feeling the All-New New Fantastic Four is just going to be the first arc, then maybe a spin-off mini or something if it's well received.

But yeah, Chulk having more pages than Robbie in the main story while also writing Chulk really poorly was awful. The back-up story was actually a better ANGR story than the main one. I'd rather it be the other way around where the NF4 stuff was relegated to back-ups while the Piston Nitro stuff being the main story arc.
>>
>>88672888
Which is dumb, because people prefer trades to floppies every time.
>>
>>88671961
She's a reboot of a character that couldn't maintain a solo comic to begin with. Throw in general confusion with regards to naming (Ms Marvel, Cpt Marvel, Shazam, Marvel?) and she's a Muslim, which is a weird culture that most Americans either hate or can't identify with.

>>
>>88672688
Maybe for some, but there's definitely a sizable portion of the board that conflates sales with being good. The biggest example is the company wars threads, but you'll see it in characterfag threads. Like in the Robin threads, the biggest defense of Tim is that he held a solo for a long time
>>
>>88672785

I'd say Miles is being pushed just a tiny bit harder than Kamala.
>>
>>88674452
Miles only shows up when bendis is writing and trinity stuff. Kamala is pushed as main player of the trinity and always has the center spot, kamala is the creator of main character of Champions, kamala is in multiple games, and was used in the audio comic ads. She has two books right now where she is the center of and a third on the way. Kamala has played a part in every event that happened since her creation except for apoc wars. Kamala is pushed harder by every writer except bendis.

In the past there have been other characters that Marvel has aggressively pushed:
Wolverine
Dazzler
Luke Cage
Falcon
Punisher
Venom
Ms. Marvel (Carol)

The comics don't always succeed, sometimes the push flops, sometimes a solo book fails, but if the character finds any sort of fanbase Marvel's never going to just forget they ever existed.
If Kamala's book fails she'll become a mainstay in Avengers books, her origin is more strongly linked to them than the Inhumans.

>Inhumans are a retarded concept.

So are superheroes. But good writing can make something special out of anything.

What's stupid is retconning at the drop of a hat. It's the thing I hate the most about DC.
Marvel takes a character with a dumb part of their story and finds a way to make it work, they did it with Hulk's gray phase - making it a multiple personality story.
They did it with Wolverine's vague backstory - creating the Weapon X mythos.
They're going to make the Inhumans concept work eventually, and without erasing the entire story so far.
It's what they do.

Alonso already said they won't have characters as regulars in more than two books at a time during anad. They didn't relaunch her for ressurXion and there hasn't been word of one down the line. Her sales have hit cancelation levels and is only a matter of time now.
>>
>>88682335

>Their sales are at cancellation numbers

Anon, that's the same meme argument now made completely meaningless by the shitposters who've overused it against all things Marvel for years now.
If /pol/ gets it in their head to hate on Batman we're going to have dozens of threads about how Detective Comics isn't financially sustainable.
This eminent cancellation because of poor sales meme is not actually saying anything anymore.
>>
>>88682416
what /pol/ has to do with comic book sales?
>>
>>88682443
What the fuck did you think the motivation was for assholes showing up on X-Men threads all fall long talking about how the X-Men books were all about to be cancelled for their poor sales numbers?
I'm guessing it had something to do with all the constant shitposting about Iceman being gay now.
It's not hard to connect the dots between /pol/ themed hatespeech and a bullshit argument about how everyone hates Marvel for not agreeing with the /pol/ themed hatespeech.
>>
>>88682504
>What the fuck did you think the motivation was for assholes showing up on X-Men threads all fall long talking about how the X-Men books were all about to be cancelled for their poor sales numbers?
They did? Didn't notice. But then again, I don't see it as a reason to get angry about

>I'm guessing it had something to do with all the constant shitposting about Iceman being gay now.
This however is annoying. And you can clearly spot that people who complain about Iceman being gay, never read comics

>It's not hard to connect the dots between /pol/ themed hatespeech and a bullshit argument about how everyone hates Marvel for not agreeing with the /pol/ themed hatespeech.
And this is ironically, /pol/-tier paranoia. It's funny how people become what they hate, isn't it?
>>
>>88682515
>It's funny how people become what they hate, isn't it?
What's that, Dear? I didn't catch the hyper-defensive implying.

But if you're saying that being offended by crossboard off-topic shitposting is the same thing as shitposting other boards, well, that's just sound logic there.
(nothing indicative of deteriorating mental capacity about that logic, no Sir)

people say she's the next peter parker, but I think her future is going to closer resemble that of Kitty Pryde

see you in thirty years when Kamala has been written by nothing but waifufags who grew up with her, indulging in both power creep and creepy power play,
and the latest controversy is over how the writer of the All-Now,Now-All-Now Starjammers has had Ahura convert to Islam and has entered into an arranged marriage with Kammy, who also happens to have recently been made champion of the Microverse and Emissary to the Macroverse

I think Kamala actually brought a lot of new readers to comics, but all the relaunches, events and crossovers made them drop the comic in the end.

Marvel is really fucking weird with this. They clearly want to appeal to new readers/movie fans, but they don't realize that their shitty practice of constant relaunches and events alienates the new fanbase. Oldfags are much more used to this stuff and they're like abused housewives, but new readers don't want to put up with this kind of shit. Especially now that they can get their superhero content from movies, shows and videogames.

Marvel doesn't care about comic book readers.
Marvel doesn't care about comic book readers.
Marvel. Doesn't. Care. About. Comic. Book. Readers.

How the Hell are people not getting this yet? After all the racebaiting and genderswapping? After all the *~*~SYNERGY~*~*. After all the "RIGHT SIDE OF HISTORY" politics and demonizing of opposing political viewpoints. Marvel cares about two things: butts in the seats in movie theaters (which is why the big three are still strong chinned alpha white men) and virtue signalling to the hashtag culture who would seriously consider buying your book, but they promised their patreon followers they were saving their money up for HRT anyways but that's okay because the movies sell big in China and that's all we care about.
>>
>>88683422
The Inhumans "movie" is about the actual Inhumans and will be set on the moon. Not the nuhuman shitters. The only place the nuhumans are showing up is Agents of SHIELD and they don't have the budget for Kamala.

Also, Kamala is rumored to be part of the New Warriors show that they're trying to get picked up, so if she's going to show up, it'll be there.

You know why? Because Marvel loves us and wants us to be happy, it's their business model, and they are succeeding. Duh.
You can go cower and fret about the big bad scary diversity and cry about how it's an attack that's going to kill us all on /pol/ - where that shit is supposed to be contained. Remember?

>I TOTALLY ship Spider-Marvel!

>>
>>88671961
>her book is pulling cancellation numbers at best

It's always been selling like that, though, but Marvel keeps her around because the numbers we see are only a fraction of what their books actually sell.

From what I understand, Ms. Marvel is one of several books that sells much, much better in digital than it does in print, probably because its target audience is younger. So Marvel doesn't care how many floppies it sells so long as the digital numbers (and trades, where it also sells well) remain strong. Especially since their profit margins are much higher in digital anyway, so Kamala probably brings in more actual money than some series which sell better in physical stores.

Marvel is making a New Warriors show? That sounds cool. Too bad we can't have Hummingbird in the show though since Spider-Man was only introduced into the MCU this year so we're not even close to Kaine.

She'll do fine while G Willow Wilson is still on the book. Eventually though she'll get tired of writing her and leave, and the instant that happens, she's going to get an incompetent writer.

The book will end up completely terrible, get cancelled, and she'll get bendis'ed in the next big event.
>>
>>88685358
>Marvel is making a New Warriors show?
They want to, but it hasn't been picked up by a distributor yet. It's looking like it'll probably go to Hulu depending on how well the Runaways show goes, so Hulu will basically be the "teen heroes" side of the MCU while Netflix is the "gritty, street level" side.

The rumored roster is:
>Justice
>Rage
>Speedball
>Night Thrasher
>Squirrel Girl
>Ms. Marvel
Meaning it's the New Warriors but with all the female characters replaced with marketable memes.
