Nothing says christmas and family fun more than some Fantastic Four storytimes. Gather around people and let's have some fun reading one of my favourite runs on the first family.

So is everybody enjoying their holidays?
>>88553761
thank you
oh ben
>>88553786
This
>>88553846
What a stud
>>88553948
That's good ol' ben for you.
>>88553718
Bought this run in singles when it was coming out and re-read it in its entirety a few months ago. It's solidly entertaining stuff from start to finish. Good taste, OP.
>>88553864
Fun fact: Mark Millar wanted to create a new character to be Reed's smart ex-girlfriend. Tom Brevoort had to point out to him that Alyssa Moy already existed (Millar clearly wasn't that familiar with FF history after his youth) and was pretty much the same character that Millar wanted to create.
>>88554060
I'm pretty sure that there is not enough money on Earth to do something like this.
And why the fuck did they create a new planet instead of finding an already existing one and terraforming it?
>>88554074
thanks anon.
>>88554108
i didn't know that. heh.
>>88554060
>>88554077
So, um, whatever happened to that total enviromental collapse in "10 years"? They seem to have just forgotten all about it now.
>>88554077
>>88554121
I think the fact that the government has technologies THIS advanced kind of makes stories made before and after this kind of weird, when they suddenly don't.
>>88554130
current marvel doesn't care about stuff like continuity.
>>88554119
dunno. maybe the other planets are already populated by some alien races.
>>88554130
After Secret Wars, is it even the same universe?
>>88554153
To be fair, Mark Millar ignored a whole bunch of continuity in this run too.
>>88554153
Revelations about this whole program made later in the arc kind of make some of the things they're doing here turn out to be huge wastes of money.
>>88554165
yeaah
>>88554164
So the World Bank is a socialist computer?
>>88554194
>She messes with yer head, pal! Every time!
It's clear that Millar didn't actually read any of those Allysa Moy stories after Brevoort informed him of her existence.
>>88553786
>It's a Johnny is being immature and needs to learn how to be responsible episode
>>88554194
>>88554204
>It's a Reed Richards is too focused on his work and needs to learn to pay more attention to his family episode
>it's a prequel to the cooler Hickman run episode
Didn't they write a mini for the future FF with wolverine from this run? How was that?
>>88553792
>>88553864
Well this whole charity thing went absolutely nowhere.
At least the Miss America identity lives on now.
>>88554314
this came before hickman's run though.
>>88554308

>>88554496
>I've had demo tapes from half of the Avengers, you know
Is he supposed to be lying? I can't think of any Avengers that ever expressed an interest in a musical career.
>>88554520
maybe it's thor.
i bet you to find spider-woman.
>>88554694
Why do people never talk about this when page?
This has got to be the worst example of jobbing I have ever seen. Cap beats FORTY superheroes OFF-SCREEN (but conveniently doesn't kill any of them), including THE SENTRY.
>>88554694
I miss her http://i.imgur.com/bb6aqLE.jpg
>>88554694
>>88554587
How did all these superheroes get here so fast?
And how did SHIELD get all the anti-reg heroes to come too?
And how did Cap beat The Sentry and all the other heavy hitters so easily?
>>88553732
>Guns that shoot the entire bullet including the casing
Comic artists are such fags
>>88554694
Under Logan
>>88554774
>>88554794
>>88554832
So all the superheroes were just taking a nap?
This whole fight is stupid. Millar should have just had the FF show up, no jobbing was needed after showing Cap blow up a bunch of soliders.
>>88554160
Clearly the Richard's fixed the issue when they rebuild the world post-Secret Wars.
>>88554971
I'm pretty sure that an off-switch is a much better fail-safe and is also standard procedure.
>>88554971
What's the point of having all these superheroes here if none of them say or do anything? Were they really just here for that 2-page spread of jobbing?
WE PACIFIC RIM NOW
>>88555018
I find if insane that Alyssa Moy managed to casually build a robot that can defeat 40 of Earth's mightiest heroes (including Sentry) in 10 minutes, and Reed needs to build an Anti-Galactus armor just to deal with it. Makes you wonder why nobody else has built a robot like it.
I'm begining to notice that Mark Millar has a problem with scale.
>>88555042
Did CAP just become 10 times larger?
>>88554204
Somewhere Namor's pointy ears just perked up as his "Sue Storm is home alone" sense activates!
>>88555083
>Look Reed! We got all these superheroes here to help!
>No worries, this Deus Ex Machina Machine I'm never gonna use again will fix this! All of you are completely useless.
>>88555083
Couldn't Cap just get Reed out of the robot without hurting him and THEN destroy it?
>>88554376
Steve should sue for copyright infringement
>>88555135
He was dead at the time this story came out actually.
>>88555092
heh
>>88555163
>You didn't even do anything
Nobody did anything except for Reed and his now-forgotten Deus Ex Machina machine. Bravo Millar.
>>88555190
There is no way in hell that the US, China, Russia and all these other governments could ever come together to do something like this and then keep it a secret, especially after this CAP incident.
And what spin did they give people?
>>88554694
Looks like Ultimate Iron Man.
>>88555233
>I don't think I approve of the way this whole thing has been covered up
And yet you're not telling anyone the truth, which means you're complicit in the cover-up you damn hypocrite.
>>88555259
Yup, Millar definetly didn't read Alyssa Moy's old stories.
hawt
>>88555318
>>88555340
>13 years
Should have been more, by this point it had been established that Ben has been the Thing for 13 years.
>>88555396
And here we get exhibit one proving that Millar sucks at writing Doom.
Doom would NEVER beg Reed for help like this, he has too much pride.
>>88555470
> AHHH HELP ME REED! THESE OCS ARE REALLY DANGEROUS!
>>88555111
>Anti Galactus suit
>it punches
REALLY MILLAR?
>>88555772
I'd post that image of Ultimate Kitty Pryde punching Galactus if this wasn't a storytime.
>>88555805
Why exactly are they letting Doom keep his armor on while in prison?
How did Doom not just escape from that prison himself anyway?
>>88555827
I don't care how desperate Doom was, there is no way he would ever go to RICHARDS for help like that.
>>88555827
Pretty weird to randomly use Mentallo of all people as a plot device for one scene.
>>88555936
This is the only thing Millar introduced that had any real impact on the franchise.
>>88555987
Why did they need to resort to stealing banks in order to make money?
>>88555987
>Maybe you'll understand once you get your first bra
She seems "developed" enough to need one already.
>>88554475
>guitar hero 3 mobile shirt

>>88556108

Anyone got a link to download?
>>88556190
sorry i don't have them anymore.
can someone post them please ?
>>88555077
his size has been fluctuating so much
>>88553718
Thanks for giving this stuff the exposure it deserves, OP. Millar has a weird love/hate relationship with super-heroes, but then he's on for them, he's *on*.
>>88556334
no problem anon.
>>88556242
>>88556262
This is so fucking stupid.
It's impossible that so many groups from all over the world could possibly agree and collude on something as big as this and then keep it a secret. EVERY President? EVERY media company? EVERY corporation?
If they were only going to save the elite, why bother wasting so much money building an exact replica of Earth? Why not build a smaller planet? Why bother with all those things they were making?
And why doesn't she just post this online? Or call a press conference? They can't possibly control everyone.
Wow, this is definitely some of the best work Hitch has ever done.
>>88556262
You know, it would have been more interesting if we had actually SEEN Ted and the others talk and show their disdain for people instead of having Allysa Moy relay it second hand.
>It's like something out of a movie
Yes Millar, it is is pretty clichéd.
>>88556460
Knowing who the Hooded Man really is, this is pretty blatant jobbing.
A little recap.
>>88556514
>>88556539
I get using Galactus as a battery, but using Doom and Johnny makes no fucking sense.
>>88556644
>>88556704
>>88556737
So why don't they just go to another planet?
>There's nowhere suiable for a million miles
That's a pretty damn justification. You're saying it's easier to take billions of people back in time than it is to build spaceships or whatever? Space travel in the MU has always been easy.
This run is full of crap that makes no fucking sense if you think about it for just 5 seconds.
>>88556766
My idea involves teleporting everyone to another planet.
>>88556854
>16.0
Really? 500 years and he's only 16.0?
And why is he a good guy now?
>>88555054

>>88554189
>>88554164
The exact opposite- It's a Monetarist.
>>88555054
>I'm begining to notice that Mark Millar has a problem with scale.
>>88557060
>See also Seth in Authority
And the Liberators in Ultimates 2.
But in retrospect, I have to begrudgingly admit that even though he's got problems with scale he masks it better than Bendis does for some reason.
Bracing for storytime of pain.
>>88556396
I don't know. I think his best work was Ultimates 2. Best I can say for this is that at least it's not his Age of Ultron or Justice League work.
>>88558183
Remind me again why Osborn gave Doom his throne back? He didn't seem to gain anything out of it.
>>88558215
>My master
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Here comes the part about this run I hate the most. The character itself is already horrible, but the idea of Doom having a man he calls master shows that Millar really doesn't get the character.
it's the joker
>>88558421
And here he is, Millar's Deviantart OC Edgy villain. Welcome to pain.
>>88558343
That was pretty fucking fast.
>>88558468
Who knew that Johnny had a thing for the Scarlet Witch? Maybe it's his way of getting back at Pietro for cucking him?
>>88558238
I thought it was just Doom that he had a problem here but after reading that one guy's site (the one with the Reed is a Skrull theory and the FF was the Great American Novel theory) I started thinking he had a point about how flawed Millar's FF was.
>>88557285
>bill and Ted tech I see
Time for christmas.
>>88555054
>I'm begining to notice that Mark Millar has a problem with scale.
>>88557060
>See also Seth in Authority
I sometimes wonder if Millar has been overcompensating ever since following Ellis on Authority. As in deep down he knows he's never going to be as good as Ellis thus the midlife-crisis-sports-car syndrome.
>>88559481
If you look at his career it's easy to tell. For a long time in the US when people thought of him they usually thought he was "Grant Morrison's co-writer." And when he did stuff like Superman Adventures it got him Eisner awards but not much attention from the readership. And in the UK I think he alienated a lot of fans with his 2000 AD work but I don't know for sure.
So then after he got success and notoriety from Authority and got more success and notoriety from Ultimate X-Men, he's went over-the-top for the whole decade.
>>88559683
Also, while I might seem critical here and about Millar's FF, I do have to admit that he seems to do what he does well; it feels like after he left Marvel, the other writers tried to be like him but the flaws come off even more obvious and shoddy than Millar himself would do. Like for instance AvX and Civil War II come off like vastly inferior attempts to be Millar's Civil War.
thread's going to hit image limit and i have to go sleep now. Gonna storytime the rest tomorrow. Thank you guys for reading. Good night.
>>88557566
>>88558013
For those who don't know, this Wolverine is actually Old Man Logan, and Banner is Brucie Jr.
At no point has this fact been brought up since another Old Man Logan showed up after Secret Wars.
>>88557901
>I don't know. I think his best work was Ultimates 2.
Good, but I thought his Authority was a lot more clean and crisp.
>>88557377
I still don't understand how Doom is a power source, unless they're tapping into his unlimited supply of AWESOME
>>88561781
I liked that though I kind of still think of it during the period where he was still partly imitating Alan Davis' style.
>>88558072
Oh Franklin, if you only knew
>>88558238
Yeah, this feels quite out of character.
>>88563945
In case you haven't noticed by now, most of this run is completely devoid of logic.
Was this the last time Hitch was good?
>>88554391
>Avengers directed by Zack Snyder
>>88556539
That's rad.
>>88553718
Millar is a hack. Fuck him.
Thank you
>>88554074
I hated the run when it first came out from the few issues I read (the book was INFAMOUSLY LATE when Millar wrote it due to Hitch being artist) but got the full run along with the entire Hickman run (and the last couple of McDuffie issues) in a lot a couple of months back. It reads better when read as a whole, especially before reading the Hickman run, given how extensively Hickman continues where Millar left with a lot of his plot points
>>88555850
You want to be the guy who dies trying to remove it, given the number of defense protocols Doom has in it to keep someone from taking it off of him?
>>88558212
Norman wanted Doom as his lacky/flunky.
Also, under Bendis' original plan for the Cabal, Norman was supposed to have Thanos as his silent partner in the Cabal and outright threatened to have Thanos MURDER Doom if he didn't agree to be Norman's "friend".
Bendis eventually just had Doom tell Norman to fuck off and tried to kill him via Doombot full of exploding locusts when Norman demanded Doom help him murder Namor following Namor/Emma stabbing Doom in the back in the X-Men/Avengers Utopia arc during the Siege prelude arc.
BUMP. Thanks for storytiming
>>88570408
>Norman demanded Doom help him murder Namor
Big mistake, Doom has a mancrush on Namor even if he won't admit it
