I am pretty sure he looks older than he should be because of how the early 2000s movies with the Gandalf actor influenced his despictions.

The first time he was deaged, was to the state of a man in the peak of his physical abilities, it was implied he was back in his early 30s.
Magneto should be 40-45 right now if like a decade has passed in Marvel time since the late 70s, but sometimes gets drawn as much older.

#1 Erik the Red reaged him into his prime (late 30s, early 40s) when he was deaged into a baby by Alpha.
#2 Astra de-ages him because it was the only way to repair his mind from the damage of being mindwiped by Prof. X. But it was also to pit Magneto in his prime against her Magneto clone, Joseph.
#3 During his experiment with the High Evolutionary with the power of a Celestial, Magneto is deaged and has his powers restored.

Being deaged and his powers on the fritz then being restored seem like a common plot device for Maggie.

her fate is now tied to Magneto's, by her own choice.
She's not going to be redefined as a victim because of some random history with him.

Magneto sent Wolverine because he didn't want to once again be consumed by the hate that ruled his life for so long, he had turned that page.
But evil piece of shit Nazis can't be allowed to walk after what they did, so Magneto sends Logan to do it.
Logan uses the sword because this is an honor thing, he knows it has to be done, it's right that it be done, but it's a sad and serious thing, not what he'd just use claws for.
The evil piece of shit Nazi has lived a quiet and peaceful life of a good man since what he did, so now he understands what he took from people, now he understands why he shouldn't be allowed to just walk away and live free of what he's done.
So the photo is the lesson he's learned about what right and wrong are.

These types of issues can sometimes end up being to "try-hard"y but I thought this was handled pretty well.

Honestly, I'm not trying to be a condescending dick when saying this, reading good novels and paying attention in history pays dividends when reading some comics. Even if they're "kids" books.

All of that stuff is pretty implicit with the two "old man" characters, the katana and what it symbolizes, the need to do it alone, respectfully and placidly. Magneto understood that Logan understands the need for justice to be metered out the "correct" way. And all of the little contextual clues are small historical icons that touch on the histories of each Magneto and Logan, as well as their place in a modern world as "old men" who witnessed old-world atrocities and have all tried to move on in their own way (like the Nazi) but still recognize that their pasts exist.

Yeah, it's a step back from the solo, and I think that's due to the status of the line, but it's basically a continuation of the solo. There's a follow up arc to DAS that's pretty solid. It's also, not 'X-Men', it's really X-Force.
