>mfw Tony Stark died and literally no one cared
Is Marvel comics even relevant anymore?
>>
>>88497229
We laughed because it was spoiled in another book and the real event has yet to be released. We dont care because A: current Marvel is shit and B: he'll be back within a year. Remember this is the same publisher that revived Doc Samson with "I got better"
>>
>>88497229
No one cares because who the fuck cares about Tony Stark besides a handful of MCUfags that don't even read comics in the first place?
>>
>>88497311
I liked Tony Stark during the (Pun not intended) Iron Age comic books like the one in the OP
>>
Nobody cares about comic Tony Stark.
>>
>>88497311
This. Liking Iron Man is like liking Pikachu or Goku over their respective casts. Sure they're cool characters but if they're truly your favorite then you must not have dabbled too much into their series. So yeah MCUfags

Also capeshit comic deaths mean nothing.
>>
>>88497311
>>88497362

MCUfag here, Cap is my favorite
>>
>>88497311
>>88497362
I think Tony works best as a side/supporting character there to just build shit for other people and the occasional armor fight. His villains are shit and the only real interesting story you can do with him is his origin and his alcoholism.
>>
>>88497362
>Putting Goku in that category

If we're tossing out Buu and Super (Cell was the end god dammit), he's one of the best characters in the series. His naive nature paired with an almost genius understanding of his surroundings always made him great. It wasn't until recent that Goku became retarded.

people stopped caring completely about deaths in marvel comics because everyone knows for a fact that everyone returns within a year or less.

Tony died? who cares, just put someone else as Iron Man and when the sales start going down because the initial hype is disappearing bring him back... repeat formula for every character.
>>
>>88497229
Tony Stark died? Huh.
>>
>>88497311
This, really.
>>
>>88497465
Shhhhhh. Shhhh. Shut up now. Nobody fucking cares.
>>
>>88497865
Well, technically not yet. He's going to die in CWII #8, but we've had a dozen other books set after CWII say that he's dead so there ya' go. Feel free to pretend to care.
>>
It's funny how Marvel cancelled Superior Iron Man so Bendis could take over and he proceeded to drive the book into the ground.
>>
Who cares if cape characters die? They'll just come back eventually anyway.
>>
Side note, the Silver Centurion armor is by far the best Iron Man suit
>>
>>88499535
So you think Marvel is noticing the pattern yet?
>>
>>88497229
he's not dead, he just lost his body and needs to grow a new one to stick his mind in.
>>
>>88499573
Look how aesthetic this is. Also objectively the best name of any Iron Man armor
>>
>>88499577
Pft, fuck no. They'll give their strong independent black womyn another relaunch before they bring Stark back.

No, the black teenager is "Ironheart." The new Iron Man is Victor Von Doom.

Branding.

Because she was Captain Marvel in Earth-X and all roads lead to Earth-X.

Can't mourn about Tony.
Must focus on Thor getting worthy again.
>>
>>88497229
I stopped caring the moment Bendis took over. He doesn't get or care about characters, isn't interested in organic storylines, has no feeling for pacing and gives a shit about continuity. Caring about a book while Bendis writes? No Sir, this will only lead to pain.
>>
>>88507736
...and you spoilered some mayor story points...
>>
So Civil War II is bad like it's predecessor?
>>
>>88506813
Earth-X is not 616 and not canon. It's nearly a post-apocalypse setting. The world's economy crumbled, everybody but Tony Stark is a mutant Actually they're mutated by Terrigen Mists, animals became sentient(stripping most people of yet another food source) and a new telepathic Red Skull threatens to take over ther world...

I think of Earth-X (combined with Universe-X and Paradise-X) as attempted to "wrap up" all of Marvel. It's the story to end all stories. It's good for one or two moments of mindfucking paradigm shifts It's all the Celestials fault but aplying these to the canon would make the MU a lot less interesting in the long run.
>>
>>88509765
Like I care.
>>88509871
Worse. And tie-ins are shitty.
>>
>>88509923
Earth-X may not be canon, but it currently has some bits currently "modern", ranging from telepathic Red Skull to Female Thor, Terrigen Mists mutating major parts of the population...
>>
>>88509923
>but applying these to the canon would make the MU a lot less interesting in the long run.
tell that to the writers who keep applying E-X plot points to 616
>>
>>88497229

I CARED.

And it is... in a very tiny way. There are still some things worthwhile about it... the only thing that springs to mind right now is Ms.Marvel.

Once they have ruined her, it'll basically be 100% crap.
>>
>>88509934
>Like I care.
Normally I would be with you. The book is old as fuck, after all. It's just that some of these points were the "whoa"-Moments that made the book worth reading in the first place. Without these Moments it's not worth reading at all.
>>
why would i care that a superhero died?

they'll be back within a year.
>>
>>88509934

Why even attempt another Civil War?
Christ.

>>88499348

>>88509741

I wish I had told myself that before this mess started.
>>
>>88497300
>current Marvel is shit
Is it really?
>>
Nobody cares when a comic book character dies because we all know they'll be revived sometime. You must be new to this; just Google any character you can think of and you'll probably get at least one death, maybe even multiple deaths.
>>
>>88509996
>Why even attempt another Civil War?

Because of the movie.
>>
>>88510023
That wasn't a wise decision.
>>
The only good thing about CWII is the reveal that Cap Hydra is orchestrating a lot of it. And that's mostly Spencer.

>>88509957
I think, even if some developments in 616 look like Earth-X they don't have the same rammfications.

Gods? Just aliens, crippled by the Celestials. The Devil? Just an early human, abused/crippled by the Celestials. Multiverse? A result of Celestials manipulating the "Devil" . Normal Humans? Just what's left of humanity after evolution got crippled/redirected by the Celestials. Super Powers of all sorts? All just a result of humanity being crippled by the Celestials and a response to external threaths to the hatching celesital under Earth's core. Death and Disease? All just, thanks to the Celestials crippling humanity.

This gets tirering really really fast and IMHO deprives the MU of it's wonder.
>>
>>88510011

Shit might be talking a little highly of Marvel but the general gist of it is that Marvel really isn't very good at all.
>>
>>88510013

Yeah, but there are deaths and there are deaths.

Tony himself has died... let's see now... I guess he technically died four times before now, five if you count the time he erased his own mind. Which counts in my book.
The first time he died of degenerative nerve damage after more than a year of run-up. He got revived after it was revealed he was cryonically frozen and they found a way to turn the thing that was killing him into his salvation, plus a pretty cool plot device.
Second time he was killed in the Crossing. Replaced by Teen Tony.
Third time he died fighting Onslaught. Was sent to the Heroes Reborn universe and reborn.
Fourth time, deleted his own mind during Dark Reign. Mind was mostly backed-up on a hard drive.
Fifth time, died during the Ultimate Universe attack right before Secret Wars. Revived by the power of Franklin Richards.

...I wonder what will happen now. And I wonder what will become of Riri Williams.

Bendis won't allow anyone to do interesting things with her, of course, so she'll probably be shipped off to some think tank once he leaves and never heard from again until ten years down the line when she is a throwaway professor character somewhere.

Death doesn't mean shit in cape comics and even the cape fandom finally realized it.
>>
>>88510130
Any titles that come to mind?
>>
>Cyclops
>Wolverine
>The Hulk
>Iron Man

Do you think major news outlets finally got sick of publishing Marvel's press releases? We've got four A-list character deaths in two years and none of them got a USA Today feature or anything. I still remember when the media covered Captain America's death immediately after Civil War.

Captain Hydra is probably the biggest story in terms of news coverage, overshadowing all the deaths.

'Ruins' was just Ellis' parody of 'Marvels'.

>>88510186

Last one, #8, which is not yet published. And, again, WE HAVE NO COMFIRMATION THAT HE IS DEAD, JUST OUT.

He may be in jail, in hospital, in a coma, in suspended animation, in hiding having faked his death, or in an iron lung.

>>88510275

Impossible. Uncle Ben being dead is one of the stipulations in Stan's contract with his almost-namesake.

Awsome hulk, Ultimates, moon knight, usavengers, avengers, moon girl, nova, ghost rider, cage or power man and iron fist... All good books, non of them written by bendis. Dont believe /co/ marvel is not that mediocre. Not all of it at least.
>>
>>88510251
Pretty much everything (OK, I can't comment on anything written by Bendis, I won't touch that with a 10 foot pole). Even Slott's Spiderman or Moongirl aren't as bad as /co/ makes them sound.

The only Marvel-Books I recently really liked were New Avengers (which should have been called something along the lines of "Next Wave of New Mutant Avengers", it was a mess, but such a wonderful mess...) and The Vision (because we saw Marvel actually trying something new with it).

Marvel makes the best movies. Even an unsuccessful Amazing Spiderman is still miles ahead of high-end budget films like Suicide Squad.

Their comics suck though. Too sjw, too much about crossovers and all encompassing events, DC does make better comics, but comics is a dying medium anyway. DC should focus on animated films which are still much more "comic bookish" than live-action and that's where they shine.

I still need to see Dr.Strange as I'm intrigued by how the game theorist said he's not eve doing magic so much as bending light and in essence being a super meta "magician".

>>

>There was a small fuss but mainly because how stupid his death was.

There was but that it was so brief showed not many people really cared about this comic in comparison to most other major events. Sure it's been charting high, but I kind of wonder how much of that is actually selling. I guess the main book is still selling somehow (otherwise its estimated numbers would've been in the 90,000's months ago).

This can't really be good considering when they spoiled Death of Bruce Banner they were hoping for Death of Cap or Spider-Man unmasked levels of attention.

Tony might be the only superhero I can think of who constantly jobs even in his own book.
>>
>>88511236
Except it's not true anymore.

The thing about Benis' patented brand of shit writing, is that it revolves around deaths, major events, and replacing heroes with shitty characters for no reason.

The thing is, shock value titles, much like shock value horror, is a cheap trick. As shown with the latter, prolonged exposure to shock eventually devalues it, to the point where it's no longer effective Couple this with comic's inability to change, like a saturday morning cartoon of yore, and there's no reason to care.

This is also true for events, if a big event is happening every few months, then they cease to be big events and simply become hum-drum happenings. You're used to it, like a store that continually has "crazy sales" they just aren't crazy anymore.

To prove this, the vene itself "civil war 2" was badly written, and tied into almost every book out at the time. As a result all sales across the board have tanked. So badly in fact that Marvel were shipping tons of bonus copies to stores, even if they hadn't ordered any, and effectively killing thier profits because of the deal they have with Diamond select.

Basicallly Bendis sucks so hard and so much, people have become over saturated with him, so they're no longer buying his junk.
>>

Honestly this, it remains to be seen if black panther will be good or not.

If they continue along the path of BLACK PANTHER MUST BE BLACK DIRECTED, without actually having a good script or director, then it'll probably be one of the bigger marvel flops.

It's almost like the heads of disney are proxy directing because they're too afraid to put thier name on it.

>being pushed to beat the non-threat that is wonderwoman

It's not looking good at all, one of the few legacy characters they could do, and yet they don't. Meanwhile blackpanther's backstory was the only good part of Civil war, and it's basically done. No idea what the movie would even be about now since I don't think it'll be able to stand on it's own without the origin.

>BLACK PANTHER MUST BE BLACK DIRECTED
Which doesn't even make any sense because the character is African born and raised. The fuck does a born and raised American black guy have in common with him besides skin color?

>Bendis says back during the last relaunch/renumber post Secret Wars that they wanted Iron man to be the 616 flagship character, fully admitting MCU synergy is top priority at Marvel.
>He goes and kills him months after that in a half assed, rushed and rehashed MCU coattail riding event

Marvel really doesn't fucking know what to do with the comics.

There are African filmmakers. Likely to make an interesting result, accuracy be damned.

Yeah but the guy doing Black Panther isn't. He's just a black American.

This was an exercise in futility then.

kek I already forgot he died.

Is he really dead?

And wasnt this a fake time displaced Tony Stark trained to appear like the real one?

Reminder that infinitely ongoing series written by different authors are cancer and always end in bs.

Yours maybe.

For the rest of the universe was Spider-man, Hulk and Wolverine. The big 3 before the MCU

Impossible to fucking tell with this horrible release cycle. I mean he's dead in one book, and AI in another, alive in others, it's terrible.
