Childhood is idolizing space jam and Michael Jordan, adulthood is realizing Chuck Jones made more sense
>>
>my precious OC donut steel

Didn't Chuck Jones realize that his verison of Bugs Bunny is so fucking boring he couldn't even carry a movie?
>>
>>88469250
do people actually like this movie, or is it some ironic meme?
>>
>>88469298
I can't even tell what people like anymore nowadays, everything is too "ironic" like you said.

People like Bee movie but oh wait they don't like it they like it "ironically" same with shrek.

"I like shrek but ironically" It's too damn confusing so I don't bother questioning it.
>>
>>88469250
Oh? How would he then?

It was Bugs Bunny being a Wise-ass that got them into the Basketball game against the Aliens.
>>
>>88469298
>>88469413
Space Jam: 35/65 ironic-to-unironic ratio
Bee movie: 90/10
Shrek 20/80
Jimmy Neutron: ????

This is just what I think.
>>
>>88469430
Probably some disguises, including crossdressing, daring them to "step over this line" off a cliff, using whatever inventions the aliens had against them in a comedic way. You know, Bugs Bunny stuff.
>>
>>88469572
But they do exactly that in the movie and it still doesn't work. Especially when the Mon-Stars start fouling them.
>>
>>88469298
I can't speak for every kid that existed in the 90s but I re watched more times than I count (and yet had no idea who Bill Murray was at the time).

It's probably outdated now though now that everyone's grown up. Can't deny it's one of the notable movies that merged live-action with 2D animation.
>>
>>88469298
>>88469413
I think that those who post the memes haven't watched the movies in a long ass time. I think it's an ironic thing, If they bothered to watch it recently, chances are they would only get mild enjoyment.

I hate social media.
>>
>>88469298
I remember it fondly.
>>
>>88469298
I saw it in theater as a kid on release and hated it. Also had an out of touch aunt gift me a Space Jam sweater I immediately dumped to the back of the closet and hated.
>>
>>88469619
It's been a while since I saw Space Jam, and it must not have made as much of an impression on me as the old Looney Tunes shorts. What do they try?
>>
>>88469298
Black 90s kids love it.
>>
I also think it's shit but not because of "muh Bug's" but because the whole movie and writing in general is shit.

However I can totally understand why it's so beloved. A movie about one of the most iconic cartoons crossing over one of the biggest sports stars of all time in a game of basketball? It's so stupid that it could only ever exist in the decade it was created, but in a way its weirdness is whats so attracting.
>>
>>88470054
At least it was better than Back in Action.
>>
>>88469484
I genuinely still like JN but the others are fair
>>
>>88469413
>"I like shrek but ironically"

Wait people like shrek Ironically? That was legit an enjoyable film.

>>88469250
Space Jam was one item of broad media action to promote Afro-American (the only proper name for Blacks those times) people and their culture in the 90. Hip-hop, basketball, life in ghettos: it was very broadly covered in these times. As for Chuck Jones, I preferred his version of "Tom and Jerry" and Daffy Duck and Porky Pig characters.
>>
>>88469484
jimmy neutron aged horribly and bee movie is 100% ironic
>>
>>88470701
His version of Tom and Jerry sucked ass.
>>
>>88470267
Jimmy Neutron is a wildcard. I know I like it but I don't know how many like it unironically.

>>88470734
I bet there's a small amount of people who have bad enough taste to like Bee
Movie unironically.
>>
>>88469298
If I want to enjoy a shitty movie, that's my own business.
>>
>>88470734
>100% ironic
Which is a shame, despite its weirdness it had some good jokes.
>I think that Bee was checking me out
>She's my cousin
>What, really?
>Yeah, we're Bee's we're all cousins
>>
>>88470286
Where have you been that you managed to miss all the Shrek meme shit?

It definitely is a good movie, but the massive amount of worship of the movie("Shrek is love, Shrek is life") is all ironic.
>>
>>88469290
>Didn't Chuck Jones realize that his verison of Bugs Bunny is so fucking boring he couldn't even carry a movie?
To be fair most iterations of Bugs would have had him solve the problem pretty quickly, they purposefully underpowered the Looney Tunes so that they were forced to turn to Michael Jordan.
>>
>>88469250
Didn't they need Michael to play/teach basketball

>>
>>88469413
The idea is that none of these films are actively bad, some of them are actually really good (Shrek). But they're really fucking weird and metta, which leads to large amounts of meme fodder.
>>
>>88469298
I think it's both. It's not good, but it feels fucking great. I loved it a s a kid, and even though it's a bad moie now, it's become so dated--so cheesy, that I can't hate. I simply can't.

It needs a sequel, and the sequel needs to be just as ridiculous.

#MAKEASEQUELTOSPACEJAM when?
>>
>>88469250
Around when did Bill Murray start greying? Osmosis Jones was the last movie I saw where he didn't have grey hair.
>>
>>88470664
IDK I kinda liked her "crazy stalker gf" vibe that TLTS went for.
>>
>>88469484
Jimmy Neutron was always kinda off putting. I don't really remember liking it, but I remember seeing almost every episode and seeing the movie. I think I listened to that soundtrack the most as a kid.

Bee movie isn't as bad as people think it is. It's just really weird topics for a kids movie. Bees go to court... what?
>>
>>88469298
it's fun when my favorite medias become a ironic meme so I can express how I really feel without anyone judging my shitty opinions and they just assume it's part of the shitposting.
>>
People like Shrek because not only is it a good quotable film, but it's a meme. It's not really ironic, the meme is.

Bee movie is a meme. No one legitamately thinks it's a great animated film, and people just think its weird. The meme helps enforce this, making it a joke.

However, Spacejam for some reason is memorized by EVERYONE. Its liked by a lot because it's so bad it's good. It was a joke before it was a meme, and people like that its stupid. Bee movie is boring, and seeing it done stupidly is funny...but Space Jam /is/ stupid. It's about the fucking Looney Tunes living in the center of the Earth fighting a game of Basket Ball to the Death with a retired veteran Basket Ball player Micheal Jordan. It's fucking insane. It has Bill Murray outta nowhere. It's NUTS! So it's not even that Space Jam is ironic as much as it is that we all accept it's bizarre existence, and cherish its weirdness.

Space Jam is so bad that it even FEELS bad calling it such. It's good because something so odd exists. It'd be ironic if everyone thought it was stupid in the way we think fucking Bee Movie is, but it's not. SpPace Jam is a work of art.
>>
>>88469250

>Space Jam wasn't a 'real' Looney Tunes movie so we're going to do it the right way!

Too bad it fucking sucked. I rewatched this recently and was amazed at how much it blew. Space Jam, a movie birthed from shoe commercials, was better than Back in Action and that's saying something.
>>
>>88470586
I wonder how many digits the number of people she turned into furries has
>>
>>88469290
That's the joke anon.
>>
>>88469250

Except for some things like Tiny Toons, Duck Dodgers, and Back in Action (Fuck you. Best LT movie ever.), Looney Tunes hasn't been good since the original shorts ended.

Funny when people say Bugs is better than Mickey, when the latter is still loved by many and in such projects like the recent shorts and Kingdom Hearts, while the former has been shit for years and basically put on life support.
>>
>>88477782
>but as a character she's kinda of bland
Not kinda, she is legit bland, the crazy stalker girlfriend thing was a direct upgrade and worked well with Bugs
>>
>>88477782
Babs is still the best female Looney Tunes character. The revamped Lola for The Looney Tunes Show was an improvement but wasn't anything great.
>>
>>88477823
Zero.
They were already furries, she just keyed a few into it.
>>
>>88477799
Because executives putting their dick in the pie. Also Cartoon Network fucked the movie up the ass because Warner refused to give them a cut of the toy sales since Warner asked them to do all their advertising for them by rerunning all the older Looney Tune episodes.
>>
>>88477841
>Funny when people say Bugs is better than Mickey, when the latter is still loved by many and in such projects like the recent shorts and Kingdom Hearts, while the former has been shit for years and basically put on life support.
I hate how this is true. But Bugs is better, damnit! Give him something better than fucking Wabbit to be in and he'll shine.

I think it's because Bugs had a higher and stronger peak. When did Micky ever reach his? Fantasia? Couldnt even say since that's really all he's there for is to be a mascot character. Most of his character in Kingdom Hearts is heavily being modified and expanded to even work in a world filled with crazy JRPG characters and story telling tropes.

Tiny Toons and Duck Dodgers were hot garbage though
>>
>>88478173

Exactly.

The reasons the Tunes sucked for years is due to the changing of times where their humor and style doesn't work on recent audiences or formats.

At least Mickey is able to properly adapt to recent times as opposed to most of the other classic cartoons that are basically on life-support like Woody Woodpecker and Felix the Cat.
>>
>>88478242
A movie about the Looney Tunes as knoghts would be a good way to reboot the franchise desu

>I think it's because Bugs had a higher and stronger peak. When did Micky ever reach his? Fantasia?

It's weird with Mickey, he has good cartoons all through his career but in about half of them he's totally boring, especially when Donald or Pluto is stealing the show from him.

The other half though he's adventurous and funny—it's like they didn't even know when they had him right or not.

The comics are why Mickey seems to be so internationally popular, I guess they were always good except maybe in the 1970s. But I say internationally because they're much better known in Europe and Asia. Here in the USA they're around and good but I never see anyone reading them.
>>
>>88478403
>Or just get actually talented writers and animators to make new shorts a la the recent Mickey ones.

I think Wabbit was supposed to be this, but it looks SO UGLY. Even when it's actually written well.
>>
>>88469298
It's cheesy, a little outdated, but it's probably one of the best blatant commercial movies around (Would have been the best if not for LEGO Movie). It has some legitimate jokes, it made Daffy wacky again, Bugs a competent smartass who didn't ALWAYS get away with being a smartass (Both of which are severely lacking in modern iterations), and they did a hell of a job stretching out basketball scenes into 45 minutes while still keeping it a fairly exciting sports movie. It was just, you know, a sports movie with a gimmick, so, it's fun at that.

A lot of the human world jokes are shit I laugh at now:
>Would you not POINT THAT CAMERA AT ME, PLEASE?
>Are you saying I can't play basketball because I'm white?
>Larry Bird isn't white, he's clear.
>I'm uh, I'm fixing a divot.
>Woah woah woah! I didn't know Dan Aykroyd was in this picture.

It also has a fantastic transformation scene that still holds up:

I watched both bee movie and nutshack and there are literal definiton of 4/10. People think it's the worst thing to be associated with animation. No, it's not. One got made because seinfeld can do whatever the fuck he can want because he's rich, and the second got made because Filipino culture is fucking insane.
